    Hi,
I have an XPS 1330 and hade the same problem after upgrading to Windows 7.
After hours of browsing for answers and reading that many others had the same problem I found the thing that made it for me and I just wanted to share that.

Install the SigmaTel driver and make sure you run the file in Windows XP(SP3)-compability mode.
    That was it for me.

I used the driver-file R171789.exe and I got it at ftp.us.dell.com, in the AUDIO-folder. (Log in as anonymous)

Best of luck to you all with the same problem.

    Yup me to

i would think you have this famous sticky headphone jack fault
seems most dells will get this fault at some point pffft

simple way to check if you have this problem,is to go to the IDT Audio Control Panel and where it shows the two jacks, if it says the headphones are plugged in and they are not, then your Jack Board is faulty!

Thanks, seems like its the stuck pin. If I wiggle the headphone in the jack, or in the microphone jack, I sometimes get sound from the speakers.
