    Hi,

    I'm using Windows7 on Dell vostro1500, I'm unable to connect to Internet through wireless modem router, let me know whether I need to Install any driver separately for the same. If yes Please provide me the link for for the drivers.

    Thanks in advance.

    Does Device Manager show a WiFi device under Network Adaptors? If so, Windows 7 has detected the hardware and installed the driver.

    You should see two devices, LAN (wired network) and WiFi (wireless). I understand that you are trying to make a wireless connection to the router so your need to have a WiFi adaptor. You may need to turn on a hardware switch in the side of the computer to enable the wireless.

    o the WLAN adapter hardware device must be installed and connected to an internal antenna;

    o the WLAN device must be enabled in the machine BIOS;

    o any machine switch for enabling wireless devices (WLAN, Bluetooth, etc.) must be switched ON if it is configured in the BIOS to control the WLAN device.

    o the WLAN device software driver must be installed so that the device is present and working as seen in Device Manager;

    o a Windows wireless connection must be defined with settings to match the WLAN router/access point wireless settings... SSID (wlan name), security encryption/authentication/key. Channel # and mode abgn negotiation should be automatic assuming both ends support/enable these to match. Configure to connect automatically even if WLAN AP is not broadcasting its SSID.

    o would be good to know how the WLAN router/AP is configured, that it is working, that its DHCP server will issue an IP address, and that it is not configured to filter/deny connections such as by MAC address.

    Can you connect to a wired port on the router and see the Internet?

    -What hardware or software changes recently occured? (i.e. just purchased the notebook, just installed Windows7, recently switched internet providers, have never used the wireless modem router before, etc...)

    -Can you connect to the wireless modem router? If yes, what type of internet service do you have? If it is DSL sometimes the gateway device needs to be configured.
