Another reason to return what you have.
Definitely a goof on the Dell end and the returns will teach them not to launch a product and then update key components like they did a month later.

Before that, i thought it would cost about $50-$60(USB 3.0 PCI Express 2 Port Interface Card costs about $40. As I know if you get WD My book 3.0 you will get USB 3.0 PCI for free). The guy told me if I ordered the part today he could give me 25% off...and If I got it from other store, the price should be much higher than this!

Got a link? I've searched through their site (Dell.com - US) and haven't seen it. Perhaps it simply hasn't made it to the web yet (or never will)...

Dell must charge extra for special components like this.

    They aren't exactly retail items.

I talked with a Dell Pro Support representative and we found that the correct part number is RMNKT. It seems the part number you mentioned (0831K) is for the older USB 2.0 IO Board.

He also mentioned that the part is currently not available in the parts ordering system, and has no price listed.

I discovered this information after calling and giving him the part number. He mentioned he has a refurbished 0831K IO Board $75 USD. I was suspicious why this "new" USB 3.0 board would already be available as a refurbished item - thinking that there might be two part numbers: one for the existing USB 2.0 I/O board, and one for the new USB 3.0 IO board. My support rep did some digging and discovered the new part number.

I also just ordered the Wireless USB UWB card (420 UWB) for $58 tax/shipping so I'll have all my I/O options covered once I get the USB 3.0 upgrade. If anyone is interested, the part number for the UWB card is C205N.

You'll have to purchase some wireless USB peripherals to use your WirelessUSB UWB card.

Here is a WirelessUSB-to-wiredUSB hub from IOGear: http://www.amazon.com/IOGear-Wireless-Adapter-GUWH204KIT-Grey/dp/B0026M9Y2K

Obviously, with the 420 UWB card built into your laptop, you won't have to connect that USB dongle; you can just use the hub itself without a dongle. I was going to get one of these hubs and put it in my living room -- for when I am working on the sofa.

They also make a Wireless USB docking station: http://www.warehousedeals.com/Kensi...froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle

The docking station allows you to "wirelessly" dock your laptop to a keyboard/mouse/display/USB devices. However, video is only limited to 1600 x 1200 (I believe it uses the DisplayLink USB-Video solution, not your built in video card when docked) so I don't think this is a good solution for a 1920x1200 notebook. Can't even connect wirelessly to a huge HD TV (1920 x 1080).

IMHO, its novelty... if you have a need, great, if not, don't worry about not having it. Also WirelessUSB maybe going away soon... to be replaced by Bluetooth 4.0. So if you have it, enjoy it while it lasts!

Its available in UK now and I think the price is so expensive and intel has already beginined to produce their USB 3.0 and be careful when you change your IO board by your own, its a little bit hard...

I'll give my rep a call tomorrow to check stock again. I'd prefer to hear back from havoctex if Dell will do the upgrade for us. Otherwise I'm sure I can handle it... "hard" is soldering surface mounted IC's with tweezers! ;)
