Hopefully it'll be available in Canada soon. I'm waiting abit longer before placing my order for the M6500. Don't want to go thru an IO board upgrade, if I can avoid it.

The board has a lot more on it than just the USB controller and USB ports. It also has the sound card, SD/allin1 card, Firewire, and the controller for the PCMCIA slot. I am sure that if it were just the USB ports, it would be cheaper.

    Hi Bokeh,

I saw in an other thread that you recieved a USB 3 daughter board -are you able to ascertain what the part number for it is?

(thanks for posting the images btw)

    Cheers

On the old one there is a DP/N 00831K
On the new one there is a DP/N 0RMNKT that could be an O at the beginning

On the back of the new one is RMNKT-A00-00

They also both have DAOXM2PI6 followed by a revision indicator.

The old one is DAOXM2PI6D0 REV:D
The new one is DAOXM2PI6F0 REV:F

My guess is that the part number is RMNKT? It does not come up on the Dell site when I search for it.

Also, be advised that to install the board you have to take a good bit of the machine apart. If you have a patient, organized, and disciplined approach to working on notebooks - along with experience and understanding of how the different connector types work - you should be ok. There are screws of differing lengths, many types of connectors, and many surface mount ICs that could be easily damaged by an errant tool or dropped screw. Make sure you have the proper tools as the screws are easy to strip. Make sure to wear your grounding wristband. Make sure this is not your first notebook repair project.

Not trying to be condescending to the pros out there. Just making sure people know what they are getting into if they attempt a DIY project.

Thanks for the heads up -though I'm quite technically minded and have done this kind of thing many times before.

By the way, if you do hear of any addtional information I would be very greatful if you could let me know.

    Cheers again.
