Has anyone actually seen the usb charging port work? I had one on my e4200 and one on my e6400 and it never works. I have the laptop plugged in and turned off or in sleep mode. Plug my iphone into it and it doesn't charge... Even through it is all active and setup in the bios.

I charge my phone and whatnot all the time on any of the USB ports...what do you mean about the 'charging port'. That implies there are others that don't. What laptop do you have?

EDIT: Okay...I never charge with laptop off .....can't relate anything.

The charging port on my E6400 works fine. One point that users need to be aware of is that any device needs to be plugged in (pre removed and plugged in again) when the computer is turned off. This is to signal to the BIOS that the device is to be charged. Otherwise the computer will continue to supply power to any device left connected when the computer is turned off. This may also apply in sleep mode.

If that doesn't fix your problem then I blame the iphone. I know that people have problem getting the iphone to charge with USB charging port on Samsung notebooks.

I've never been able to get the port to work with an Apple device. Otherwise, no problems.

It doesn't work for my BB Bold either. I can see my Blackberry notices power being supplied (as the clock appears) but then after a second or so it seems to disappear and stops charging immediately.

Yah it's IPhone or Apple products issue. I think the USB doesn't provide enough power or something when laptop is OFF.

All of my HTC phones work just fine w/ USB port charging when laptop is OFF.

I don't think it is a lack of power. I suspect that the hardware is trying to communicate through the data part of the interface and won't enable charging unless it gets the right response. No double the manufacturer can come up with a good reason (excuse) for this this behaviour, but it is inconvenient for people who who want the reduce the number of chargers they have to travel with.
