lol im a bit late. and ya i came from a 13" laptop before

    quick impressions.

sound is fine. could be better but i personally dont expect much from a laptop. what a i like a lot though are the media controls above the keyboard. you can quickly mute, make louder or quieter, stop/pause/play, and they arent buttons. i think they are heat sensitive. very responsive

white lights look nice on the keyboard. plus there

the 1600 x 900 res seems sufficient for the 17.3" display. might be just right for it. 1080p res might be too small.. i have a 21.5" display with 1080p and the amount of space is massive. also, the anti glare is great. not glossy at all!

i do not like this keyboard at all. its very mushy in my opinion. the backlighting is very nice, but the strokes just sink in for me.. maybe i type too hard

its rather quiet. i have a youtube video running on the background and there is a little hot air coming out from the vent.

i'll update this again later when ive played around some more. with webcam, fingerprint reader, etc.

That top row of multimedia buttons is touch sensitive - there's actually a couple of Vostro 3500 vids on youtube where the owners complain those buttons don't work well, but I'm assuming they have malfunctioning sensors that need to be replaced.

I wonder if I'll notice the mushy keyboard. There's videos I've seen on a Vostro 3400 where they show lid flex (press down on the Dell logo on the lid and see how much flex there is) and keyboard flex but I've never typed on a flexy, mushy keyboard so I don't know if it means anything to me. I'm not the hardest typer but not the easiest on the keys either. The flex may be due to the spill resistant rubber stuff they have under the keyboard, I don't know.

I bet the 3700 does seem huge coming from a 13" inch laptop!

@CrashX - thanks for the 64bit drivers link!

my EDD is still 8/12 :(

oo then they are very very sensitive and mine work perfectly. even pauses and plays youtube videos :p

yeah i just tried. there is definitely lid flex, but i guess its kinda acceptable for a 17.3" laptop..

oh and i like the touchpad. the multi touch gestures work and are responsive.

im letting the battery discharge while i just surf the net and time how long it lasts with 20% brightness

It will probably take the battery several charge/discharge cycles to get up to full capacity, just keep that in mind.

    good news about the touchpad!

I figured if the 14 has flex then the 17 would for sure, but I am hoping it will be acceptable. I will be moving this thing in bag everyday and sometimes bringing it on a plane, so I am hoping any flex is offset by the use of an aluminum lid.

If you have headphones, plug them in and see how it sounds - I've read reports (not about Vostro specifically, but still) of people having annoying amounts of hiss or crackling with their headphone jacks.

How's the wireless range compared to your previous laptop - stronger signal? The same?

I just got the laptop but my laptop doesn't seem to have dedicated videocard installed on it .. I only see Intel listed when I use dxdiag ? Bios says dedicated videocard however ..

Also noticed that Dell Windows 7 Product Key wasn't in the back ..

Anyways, they are exchanging for new laptop ? Will this void my bing cashback ?
