    Hi everyone,

I would like to buy the a SSD and RAM for my M4600.

I would like tonuse the SSD for the operating system and some programs. I also have the 500 GB hard drive that comes with the notebook.

I am not sure if I want to replace the CD tray to use the SSD. Thefore I probalbly need to go with mSATA.
What dou you think? What SSD would you recommend?

Dont want to spend more than 300 USD.

    RAM:

I want to uprade the RAM to at least 8GB.

I mainly use the RAM for some video editing, games and photoshop.

Does it make more sense to upgrade to more than 8GB here? Does the AMD graphic card benefit from more RAM?

    Thx everybody.

If you don't use your CD/DVD drive regularly, I suggest you replace that. If you do, then you should consider the Intel 310 mSATA. Since both laptops have 4 SODIMM slots, it's pretty cheap to upgrade to 16GB (4x4GB). The discrete GPU does not benefit from more memory but for your usage, you'll see a benefit.

You can buy an external enclosure for the CD drive. But why wouldn't you put the SSD in the HD bay and the mech drive in the cd area?

Uhh, I just meant your scenario. If your OS was on your SSD and you needed to load a CD you can pull out your storage drive instead if it was positioned different?

    Aha,
    Now i got it!:)
So i put the ssd into the hd bay and the hd into the cd bay.

So I could get a better SSD instead of the MSata... Well the question is if i need such better performance for my private use...

Is there any disadvantage in terms of reliability of an mSATA?

I don't know. I just chose the 120gb minicard option from the configurator.

It was $180 upgrade from the 500GB. Then another $180 for the secondary 250GB HDD. I paid $100 for a 750GB 7200RPM drive from newegg to replace the 250GB. Not too bad but the second $180 was a waste.
