Hello, I have ordered E6400 but I have choosen Intel 5100 wifi card with two antenna port. I heard that this model isn´t very good so I´m thinking about the upgrade to Intel 5300 with 3 antenna ports. I have a question about the antenna cables. How many cables are there near the wifi card in latitude with 5100? two or three? If there are only 2 cables, so the upgrade brings me no advantage. Thanks for the answers...

all the cables and antennae are present, you just need to swap out the card.

According to the manual for the E6400, it looks like the 3 cables are already present, and as afhstingray has said, it seems as if you can just swap cards.

You may want to call Dell just to be sure.

Here is a link to the manual (already on WLAN).

I have contacted technical support in Czech Republic but the operator wasn´t sure about the number of the cables. That´s why I try to find the answer here...

If you go to my E6400 review and look at the photo of the bottom with the cover off then you will see that there are 3 wires for the wireless card (at left-middle front). I have the 5100 card so the black and white wires are connected and the grey wire is parked.

i am sure, because all the antennae are present on the M4400/E6400/E6500

even the WWAN connectors are present. it is a part of the screen assembly and are covered and dormant in the respective slots, all you got to do is remove the cover and connect.

anyway, whats the big problem? just open up your unit, its just one screw...then you can see for yourself

if you just ordered it and want the 5300, you should call dell and ask them to change it. better than wasting a 5100

unless its already out for delivery they'll do it. depends when you ordered though.

I spoke with the operator and now it´s too late to change the configuration. Anyway is there a significant difference of the range between 2 antennas in 5100 and 3 antennas in 5300?
