I'll try it then. The main things I have to install are Nero, Office, Directory Opus, and a media program I use.

Installing drivers is not a pain. Since Vista, you DON'T have to restart your computer. I install all drivers, and once everything is install, I restart, and I am done. What is a pain is that in few month you will need to remove Vista and put Win7 official. So while doing so, why not install Win7, as suggested by many so that at least you can get comfortable with, enjoy it.

You don't need to install media program (well maybe Winamp/iTunes/Zune for internet radio/podcast/mp3 player), but WMP12 is REALLY nice. Try it and see how it turns up for you.

Nero is useless. Windows burn CD and DVD pretty well, and now since Win7, you can burn ISO. They are free solution that are SIGNIFICANTLY lighter, faster to install, and perform better, like imgburn, which burns any CD/DVD.

    Folks,

I am going nuts. I can't get my webcam to work. I tried different firmwares
config installed under different compatibility modes. Nothing works. Dell Cam Manager shows that no driver is installed. Device Manager shows a working driver and neither MS IM or Skype can use the camera.
I have 7100 64 installed as an upgrade from Vista 64 where everything was working. Did anyone encounter the same issue? I really do not want ot reinstall and go thourgh the pains of updating.....

    Anyboyd?

    Thanks in advance...

Did you try Vista drivers? Firmware's won't help much.
You may need to run the driver setup under Win7 compatibility mode (as Vista, of course)

Your Dell webcam is a Creative. You will have to wait for Dell to excessively push Creative to move and make drivers. It took a full year to have half cooked X-fi drivers release for Vista, despite saying on the box that it's Vista ready. And a law-suit on someone that did the drivers for Creative which destroyed to this date their reputation.

I am sure that Dell will force Creative for the drivers, don't worry about that.
But in mean time... if you can't get the webcam to work with Vista drivers (which I am surprised that it doesn't work), you'll have to wait.

I have the same build as you, and the webcam is working. I verified that in Windows Live Messenger/Tools/Audio and Video setup.

Here is the driver for the integrated webcam:

    Driver Date: 3/9/2009
    Driver Version: 1.6.3.309
    Driver Provider: Creative Technology Ltd

I did not install any Creative software.

yes, i encountered the same issue, and i am 99% sure it is a (probably unfixable) issue due to upgrade. When I reinstalled the OS clean, it worked.

it has nothing to do with the drivers, they are fine. it has something to do with a corrupted install of the OS or something. the drivers work fine.

I did a clean install of x64 Build 7100; The webcam works fine for me. I didn't install any additional drivers.
