Are you serious? :/
I am wanting to fall in love with this laptop, but Windows 10 is so utterly horrendous, it's ruining the entire experience.

Its possible the batteries have a bad physical part or need a firmware update - it's likely not possible through the laptop <=> battery connection, it needs to be updated outside the laptop.Rairch likes this. -

5.0 out of 5 stars Alienware 13 R3 beware.

So the ram is pretty great. But the Alienware 13 R3 doesn't support it very well. It won't boot if only the Kingston ram is installed. If I used one Kinston stick and a stock stick, it would boot and see all the ram, but as soon as I take out the original stick, no boot, just a red flashing light.
---
Although I seen latest review which report it do support AW 13 R 3:
Great RAM , compatible with AW 13 R3 !!

I initially wrote in QA response section that it didn't work with AW13R - my mistake, it does ! Fully compatible and operational.
I must've had one of the two included faulty 16GB sticks, as initially only one would boot up. Received a replacement - works perfectly fine !
-----
Please share your experience. Did both 2 Kingston 16GB work with your AW 13 R 3? Did you adjust any BIOS setting in order to make them work?

I can confirm that my battery indicates a 5% wear also. Seems like the Manufacturing mode does indeed do something to the battery, maybe thats why they cap off at 60% in that mode. Will run battery diagnostics with the F12 methood and see if it betters. Its night here so I will report back tomorow.

Time to hit up Dell for a return once I reset this laptop, I'm not too keen on the QA on this product anymoreAttached Files:

Has there ever been a similar issue with AW systems that involved actual physical damage ?
I mean, I am asking as I've never seen anything like this with any other AW laptop. Failed main boards, screwed up ports, fried GPUs and CPUs - yes but nothing like thisLast edited: Dec 13, 2016 -

Either Windows 10's code is the problem, Windows 10's design is the problem, Windows 10's architecture is the problem, Windows 10's updates are the problem, Windows 10's spying is the problem, Windows 10's drivers are the problem.
Windows 10 is wasting our resources without benefit to us, Windows 10 is wasting everyone's time, all the time.
Without exception -> Windows 10 = FAIL.sisqo_uk likes this. -
My Battery wear level is at 2%, leave plugged in 100% of the time and battery is at 100% charged.

Anyone here do a clean install/format on their computer as soon as they got it? I noticed a lot of bloatware on the 15 R3 when it arrived

hope you being sarcastic...Microsoft is suppose to mitigate Nvidia ****ty coding?hmscott likes this. -
MS continually wears out the developers trying to fix their drivers. Windows 10 makes all the developers look bad - all the time.
The developer thinks they have won the day, fixed the problems created by the last Windows 10 faux pas, and Windows 10 pushes a change that drops another load of crap for the developers to deal with.
Again, it always comes around to Windows 10 high level of constant change and breakage being the problem. -

Work forwards, and way way way backwards for more fun stuff.

if what you are saying is true then my 970M on the Aorus would continuously having problem after every update, but that is not the case, I never had problem with the 970M from the day I open the box till even now. From window 10 home version to Enterprise version, all has been working flawlessly. I'm not defending Microsoft but this is an Nvidia issue, I would rather use Kubuntu but Nvidia, games and other apps dont support the OS. -
sucks to be living like you bro...I couldnt careless if Microsoft collect my data, I got nothing to hide, if it eventually lead to better ways of doing things then so be it. At the same time, if this could catch those sick kiddys porn watching motherfuckers then I'm all for it. -
Anyway I have submitted for return and refund. And place new order for your recommended one which is cheaper, faster and have at least some positive review.
Btw I was impressed with the stock 256gb SSD they provided. It's a Samsung 961 which is not bad in term of transfer rate

Not too sure how Ebates works, but would I be able to get cashback with them even if I pay with the Dell financing?

I performed a clean install yesterday and accidentally reformatted the stick with my backup data (I know, very smart). I was wondering if anyone would be so kind to make screenshots or note down the OLED power profile settings? Thanks
Speaking about power, I get an estimation of about 2 and a half hours on a full charge with 50% brightness. Do you guys get similar results?
I also noticed that the palmrests get very hot while charging, especially when charging when the battery is almost empty (longer charge times). While I'm not literally burning my wrists, it does feel a little bit uncomfortable. Does anyone have a similar experience?hmscott likes this. -
I could tinker for a couple of hours yesterday and took a look at temperatures without any performance mode enabled in the bios.
Playing 40 minutes of Dragon's Dogma cpu stayed largely under 80 degrees, while gpu was around 65.
Then I switched over to No Man Sky, and while gpu went up to 71 cpu skyrocketed to 91 degrees!
Then my son wanted to ride a T.rex in Ark Survival Evolved and, with the game looking GORGEOUS, cpu was at 88, while cpu stayed under 80.
What impressed me most is how the laptop stays incredibly cool : I could put my hand on every spot of the keyboard and chassis, and it was only slightly warm while silent at the same time.
I also tried occt but I don't know which test to do.
Regarding battery, should I let it go to 0% and recharge it a few times? -
I wonder if someone of the AW13R3 users have a Oculus Rift and are using SteamVR? For me SteamVR ist not working at all...SteamVR throws an error about missing essential components.
Oculus Apps instead work very good. -
I have access to both. -
Don't have stutters at all. Disabled Xbox app, disabled page file, disabled indexing of the ssd and finally disabled superfetch. Now I do this with all my computers running win 10 with ssd. I can't say that I had micro stutters before because I literally did this after 10 minutes of use so hard to say. But if you experience stutters try the above settings. I also uninstalled killer software and installed the bare drivers.
My normal temps are now around 30 degrees Celsius with repaste. Stress test or heavy gaming is around 60-65 degrees Celsius. -
The Rift runs flawlessly. Perfect fps/tracking in configurator & Dreamdeck demo. No problems during installation. Note: If you wan't to connect an Xbox controller or use Oculus touch you will need a usb hub since the 13 only has 2 usb ports. A converter on the type-c usb port on the might(haven't tested this) also work.
Getting the Vive was (only)a little bit more of a hassle.
- Install Steam VR
- Connect HDMI and USB an wait Windows to install drivers
- Find out that Steam VR that the base station is not detected
- Reboot Windows
- Fixed, you can run the Room Setup now
Both the Oculus and the Vive are CPU and GPU intensive so the fan speeds ramp up pretty quickly.
Since I'm at work, I don't have time to try any games so I hope this information will suffice.
Good to know it works since I intend to use my 13 for an upcoming VR project.Last edited: Dec 14, 2016 -
@Djangi So you have tried the rift with SteamVR and everything went just fine? Did it directly recognize your rift headset after starting SteamVr?
-
-
Hmm I don't have a Vive and want to use SteamVR with the Oculus. Could you please try this aswell? With my prior AW17R4 SteamVR worked with the Oculus...
-
Note: Unknown sources needs to be enabled in the Oculus app settings. -
Just checked my order status and it shows "Your custom-built item is complete." Does that mean anything?
-
-
Well I originally ordered last week and there was an error in the order so they redid the order yesterday. EDD is the 20th-23rd.
-
-
Sweet, so that would mean 2-3 more days before shipping?

As for temperature issues, the 13 inches dont seem to have that problem too much (going by the number of threads here). They seem to be better made than the 15 or the 17 inch. -
Well I finally pulled the trigger today and ordered mine.
EDD is the 4th January. What's the chances of it turning up before Xmas though
