That's what i have chosen. As I play with a VR headset most of the time, i don't need better screen for just ...monitoring.
I saw HWInfo monitoring fan speed in iunclock's screenshots. You should ask him.

6820+ normal panel does not exist either, you are forced to get it with the UHD (3840 x 2160) IGZO IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display. At least in the USA if you want a 6820 your only option is with the 4k panel.

Any particular reason why we cannot configure the GTX 1070 with the 120hz G-Sync display? Out of stock?

I already have a good heater for my apartment, no need for a 6820HK.

I returned my New AW 15. Although the temps were ok, it has light bleed. I'll just wait for my refund and get the New AW 17 with 1080 GTX.
Shame, I was looking into the new AW 15......hmscott likes this. -

Might have been posted already but Lisa at Mobile Tech Review has reviewed the AW 15 R3 now:

120hz is available only with 6700HQ

So, when are we expected to be able to download GPU drivers directly from Nvidia?
Edit:
Seems like we already can, but Nvidias GeForce Experience didn't find the latest drivers. Kind of bad. -

Does the Dell/Alienware Update program EVER find any updates? Seems like its still a joke...

The 6700HQ can also be undervolted. As for holding onto it for a long time, I'm fairly confident the 6700HQ will still be capable enough for gaming in 5 years time (assuming it's running at 3.1GHz). Ie, the GPU will be holding things back long before the CPU will.[/QUOTE]
Well, do you think 6700 can support Aw amprifier and external monitor? -
Ordered 15r3 on 11/4 and getting 11/9. I7-6700hq, 1060, 1080p, 256ssd, 16gb. Need to update the sig I guess. Will hand over my 2014 aw17 to my wife. I just hope the machine plays BF1 on ultra at over 60fps as shown. I can tell you Alienware lowered my price because Best Buy has a 17 on sale with a 1070 for 1699. So Alienware lowered my price to what a MSI with comparable specs... so I'm very happy. I just hope it doesn't overheat on day 1. I plan to game hard on this BF1 style... I am curious how much the 1060 can be overclocked before it begins to thermal regulate. Any idea yet from anyone? What about the 1070?

Don't get me wrong; if the 6820HK was an option with the G-Sync panel I'd absolutely be going for that, and it's obviously going to provide more longevity. However I believe the 6700HQ will still be good enough in 5 years time; as in, you're still going to be able to play the latest games without the CPU severely throttling the GPU.Twentynine29 likes this. -
I'm at $1850 through my company premier. What was yours?

But I don't think the number is as highly as with the last AW models. Alienware is known for good QC on their heatsink. Why this now happened such a change... Is quite remarkable. How much of the new machines has really good low maximum temperature? The number of machines with good max temp can't be many. Low TDP processors tested in Alienware, push 30-45W in test and reach 90-100C is rather extreme. You agree with me that this is unacceptable? This applies of course all brand

I sent back my laptop to AW to opt for refund instead. I am not happy about temps and light bleed. Sigh.....
I'll try my luck on the AW17

Well I got my 15 R3 with the 6700HQ and 120Hz panel.
I ran OCCT bone stock and this is the result:

Hello everyone.
Repost from this thread.
***News Flash!***
(No not about the elections ROFL.)
Hey guys, hope everyone is having a good evening on election day ROFL...anyhow I am right smack in the middle of another repaste of an AW15R3 and guess what....
I just had to bring this to you guys LIVE as I couldn't resist waiting until I was done so here it is....the proof that supports my original theory of the heat sink being uneven due to the screws holes on one side of the mobo being lower than the other and/or the lack of another screw on that end to provide more pressure to hold that side down evenly with the other side.
I've used some high end pressure paper...(This stuff is expensive.) Commercial grade stuff...
- And guess what? It so happens to be conveniently on the side of the CPU where there is only one screw whereas on the other side there are two screws LOL. Coincidence? I don't know...let's ask a chimpanzee. Not rocket science.
So guys...there ya go...non-mystery solved. It's not the 6820HK...
This unit also has a core differential of 30C! I just ran a bunch of stock benches to collect my initial data, which I do on all machines that I work on before performing the repaste. I'll report back with the post repaste temps when finished.
Hope this helps those of you with the 15, sleep at night..
Bottom line. Let Dell to take care of this issue. As I've said before, the ONLY reason you would want to keep your unit is if you have a nice silicon and ONLY then would you want to give it the time of day to fix the issue on your own. Otherwise you're just doing an injustice to the situation that is factually common and evident among many many 15 owners. ie.....raise havoc to Dell! Demand. Not ask. This is an issue that they need to fix! Not us the owners...Fair is fair guys...simple as that. This type of QC issue should not exist in a $2000-$3000 machine. It's obviously the QC issue overseas and the poor work that is being done there. Maybe Dell needs better management, an eagle eye on these works and to switch up the thermal paste. Everything else is beautiful...the machine is great, but the some of the things under the hood makes a great machine crumble.
Foundation is key and having good thermal paste along with a flush heat sink -> die to dissipate this heat is obviously important.
Hope this helps...
It's obvious that it's cooking under there...look at that...
See those bubbles?! Air bubbles / pockets from the stock paste or any paste = NO GOOD! HEAT!
Laying down the pressure paper...
See how much darn pressure is on one side? Just crazy... (This is the CPU side.)
Evidence that the heat sink is uneven. Look at what side the pressure (red area) on the GPU is...yup... Also, the GPU has way more tolerance than the CPU although it is uneven like this, which is why the GPU temps aren't really an issue with a good repaste.
Plus look at them grooves on the CPU side of the heat sink! SMH ...This is why I lap the heat sink. Yes really...

@iunlock
Had to ask this will u make a disassembly guide for 15 r3 too just like the one u made for 17r4 ?
Are u using fujifilm pre scale the pressure paper ? -
-
@iunlock what where ur exact things u did against that uneven heatsink?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if I could have a little help with a recent Alienware 15r3 purchase.
on November 2nd, I purchased an Alienware 15r3 and it is set to arrive either tomorrow or the following day. Having read all these issues, I am wondering on what I should do. Is this screw issue an inherent design flaw that is affecting ALL Alienware 15r3 laptops? Should I even bother opening it?
I bought the 120ghz panel, with the GTX 1070, and upgraded 16gb 2667 ram if that helps?
Cheers,
Dan -
Greetings,
I have returned my 15R3 with 4K panel (order date October 10th) due to the severe bleeding issues on the lower right part of the screen. I've had Dell replace the screen, but the problem persisted. In the end I got fed up with the bad tech support and issued a return. Can anyone here confirm they fixed this issue now? I'm considering buying the same setup again with the discount, but want to make sure I get a 100% ok unit.
Thanks in advance,
Will -

Basically, at no point is there ever going to be a 100% guarantee it'll be ok. -
When Dell replaced the screen the first time the engineer checked it with the bezel off and the panel itself was 100% ok. But when he put the bezel back on, the lower right end of the screen had the bleed showing again. Hence it seems to be a (really stupid) mannufactoring error. -

My 15 R3 has just arrived. There is no light bleed.

are the units recently shipped with 6700HQ still having isssues? i plan on buying one.
-
What is considered good CPU temp for 6700HQ? Mine's around 50 on boot and going up to 75-85(85 on core 0 only) running OCCT for an hour.
-
-
is there a huge difference between the ips and the g-sync ? my current setup is in my sig getting it replaced due to back light bleed but considering going to the g-sync enabled with same setup.
-
There must be a way to monitor the fanspeeds on this computer?? Have tried both HWInfo and SpeedFan and neither seem to be able to show fan info for the AW15 R3.
-
Dell have just confirmed my replacement due to light bleed on the 4K screen and have been nice enough to double my RAM for free (8gb to 16gb, I asked them nicely). Lets just hope this one has no light bleed and stable CPU temps!
-
I receive my aw15r3 today.
1070/6700hq/1080p IPS
Massive Light bleed
-
That almost looks like mine that I received yesterday. Keep in mind the grey-ish spots on top are something related to IPS screens. It only shows on images on certain angles.
I guess you're asking for an exchange?
