This is the result. Note that I only enabled performance mode on CPU, not on fans. Max temps must be from another test, as they were in the mid40's during wprime

Awful. Select 8 threads in advanced options and re-run. 6700hq should run more like 206 sec.

1mm yep, and for the white 0.1mm thermal pads : My unit does not have them i think, so I can get my hands on some 0.1 thermal tape with 1,5W/mk that's enough for the chokes cooling ?(seems quite low compared to the usual 4-6w/mk of other pads) If not I might try with some very thin layer of K5-pro, I saw your great tutorial for the other pads and the conductonaut :) thank you for that .

Have you updated the drivers in device manager?
Also, it is possible to improve windows hello by letting it "see" you in different lighting/backgrounds. You can do that under settings, or it might pop up if you failed to sign in using hello

I had the same problem after Creators update installed.

Try to reinstall camera drivers from Dell website.

It helped to turn Windows Hello on, but overall performance is worse than it was before Creators update.

the issue is that Windows hello configuration isn't working, first time shows image of the cammera and after that shows only White square, so i will reinstall drivers tomorrow and recheck if it isn't working i will contact dell support again.

Corwin2000 just i did read your post, does audio app Works for you after Windows creator update?

    thanks for the answers!

As you can see, your scores in both Wprime 32M and 1024M is lower than it should be. Especially the shorter Wprime 32M.

It works, but stops recognizing face after a week after I teach it. After teaching it starts working, but again for a limited period of time.
And when I'm trying to teach it, it often freezes on halfway through the process.

Seems that after Creators update it is less tolerant to light.

I had the same problem several times during teaching. In my case it was solved by opening and closing a standard camera app prior to teaching.

I think creators update leads to some configuration errors. I am assuming new app and driver updates will resolve these issues. Hopefully soon.

Got my AW15R3 Kabylake yesterday. Heatsink problem was as expected still there. Even with the "new" heatsink. Core differential was about 20 degrees and highest temp for a Core was 94 in OCCT test.

Repasted directly with LM and everything ist just wonderfull now. 1 degree differntial between cores and max temp in OCCT 60 degree.

Very impressive result. BTW the TN 120hz panel is very nice.

I received my 15R3 with 7820HK and 1070 a few days ago. I've got kyronaut thermal paste and fujipoly thermal pads sitting here ready to install. I'm just wondering what kind of temps should I be looking at on stock without undervolt or OC in OCCT? I don't want to waste $50 of materials if it turns out this one is a dud from the get-go. Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Just noticed on the UK Dell website

    http://www.dell.com/uk/p/alienware-15-laptop/pd

That there is an option now for a IPS screen *without* g-sync...but it doesn't mention anything about Optimus.
Really wish that Dell would be better at updating their products...

Might be of interest for people who want longer battery life.

I have just ordered a new Alienware 15 R3, just waiting for the slow boat from China to arrive to the UK shores.

On an average good temps for cpu and gpu under heavy load is 70C and 60C. Again its an average. Temps differ case by case basis based on heatsinks, individual chip die etc. Ideal is of course 60C and 50C. Bad temps like 90C and 70C are an indication of over heating. If your system has idle temps of 80C and 50C thats already a bad sign of thermal paste/heatsink issues. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response. I just ran OCCT for about 20mins and Heaven benchmark. This is without undervolt or OC. These temps ok for a repaste? The core differences worry me a bit. I reset the HWiNFO after the fans kicked in on the OCCT test.

Your temps are on par with average. Nothing bad, and nothing good either. Your core differentials are fine. You can certainly run your system without a paste change if you run at cooler ambient temps for some time.

Fyi: I run my system at 22C air conditioned room with a laptop cooler, and mine is ICD paste. I get 5-8C less than yours.

That's good to hear. The results I posted were with the laptop elevated on a U2 Plus, but it wasn't plugged in. I live in GA, so it gets pretty hot here in the summer, my AC is usually set to 76 degrees.

I definitely want to overclock to at least 4.2GHz, possibly higher. So I don't think I can get away without a repaste, plus I already have everything I need for it. I just wanted to make sure that my heatsink wasn't bent or needed rebalancing. I really don't want to deal with that.

Anyone with a TN screen had the screen go brown when it's a black background? Left it on all of today and now the AW logo desktop is brown....

Because that is completely stock. It doesn't hold at 3.6GHz actually since it's considered a turbo...unless there is something else going on entirely, but I'm fairly sure no processor stays at their max turbo for 20mins.

My 7820HK CPU and every other CPU in every laptop I've owned stays on the max turbo clocks 24/7

You have to know how to configure your computer! Why would you buy fast hardware and run it under its rated speed?

Not exactly sure how to respond to that honestly. As I said before, I didn't change or configure anything. Those results were how the laptop shipped and all the multipliers inside the bios and XTU reflect that. 39 with 1 core, 37 with 2 active cores, 36 with 3 and 35 with all 4 active. Why did I get 3.2GHz instead of 3.5 in OCCT? Your guess is as good as mine.

Accusing me of not knowing how to configure my hardware isn't adding anything productive to the conversation, so keep those kinds of comments to yourself. I know how to configure and overclock my CPU. Clearly there is something else going on entirely.

I wasn't referring to your comment, but the one below yours. I understand that I can go and change the power limits, but that wasn't what I was after when I took those screenshots, I simply wanted a baseline with how the laptop shipped. Once I start messing with BIOS settings and overclocking or changing multipliers I can't really call it stock anymore and those 2 results from the tests I ran would be kinda pointless.
The document you linked also states that it can boost up to 3.5GHz with 4 active cores, which is pretty much my understanding on how the turbo on these things works. This is my first laptop with an overclockable CPU, but on a desktop I would simply set all cores to the same multiplier and make sure everything has enough power to function properly. I also ran OCCT with all 4 cores set to 41 and it held at 4.1GHz, I don't really know why the shipped configuration is running slower. It does boost up to 3.5-3.9GHz but it doesn't stay there unless I manually change settings.

I did just restore to default values in bios and now it's holding at 3.5GHz. It's on the exact same settings that it was though, I'm guessing something got messed up when I went back to stock from the 4.1GHz overclock.

Most likely. Nice You also finally saw that something was wrong, that's good. But your comment to Bruh @Phoenix was not necessary (He is one of the most helpful here on the forum). He also saw that something was wrong with your clock speed and comment on this. And would as well helped you if you have asked.

Hi all, I've just installed a 250gb Samsung 960 Evo into my aw15 r3and the read and write speeds are low.

    Read 2500
    Write 1500
Most people seem to be reporting around 3500 for read and 2000 for write.
I'm not sure how to speed it up, can anyone help please?

    hi yall,
i'm thining about pulling the trigger on 15r3 with a i7-7820hk, gtx1070 (maybe later a AGA), full hd 120hz tn + wva and 16gb 2667 mhz ram.

my question is basically, does the 15r3 still has heavy overheat issues? i have no problem with repaste but wouldn't like to do it but if i have to i do it. i'm just curious if they still have it or they resolved it.

    sorry for my bad english.

    greetings from germany

    Skyrim Special Edition on AW15 R3, 1070, 4k screen..

I'm trying to run Skyrim at 2560 X 1440 but no matter what I do, I can only run it at these resolutions:

    3840 X 2160
    2048 X 1152
    1920 X 1080

I've tried editing the SkyrimPrefs.ini file and adding the custom resolution in there but if I add 2560 X 1440 in there, it displays in about 1/4 of the screen if the full screen option is turned off in the prefs. If the full screen option is turned on, the Bethesda logo is at the bottom right of the screen on launch and everything else is not visible!

I've tried disabling high dpi scaling (new to Creators update) and this does nothing.

Can anyone please help - Skyrim at 4k gives around 45fps on my machine but Id really like to use the 1440i mode. Not sure why it's not an option in the setup though!

    Any help would be great!

It's better than it was on the Skylake models but still far from perfect. A little undervolt and a repaste should solve the issue though.

I am testing with a K5-pro layer in place of the thermal pad (that picture was taken prior to cleaning the heatsinks).

test with ~1 hour of witcher 3 ultra :
    it's 29-30°C where I am actually :). I usually hit 79°C-82°C when it's 25°C-ish.

Look at those delta temps, at last, decent differential temps. Will test again, waiting a little for the Kryonaut to cure (I know it's supposed to be cure time-free but I don't believe that).

I bought Conductonaut, when I opened the pack...the syringe was not there !!! So frustrating.

Does anyone know the Dell part number for the 15R3 UHD 40pin eDP cable?

    Or compatible ones?

I know that eDP 40pin plugs for 15.6" are smaller than that of 17.3" ones.

I have the 120Hz screen and am upgrading to 4K, but the 120Hz screen is apparently 30pin.

Also if anyone's interested, I have an extra GLOSSY UHD 4K LCD panel with 100% Adobe RGB for the 15R3/any 15.6" laptop. I also have a GLOSSY UHD 4K for 17R4/17.3" laptops.

    Heya, Go to Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini and set `iSize H=1440` and `iSize W=2560`

Can you help me as well? Can you tell me the Dell part number for your LCD cable, or just list the itemized list of your order? You can find it in your Dell order status. Thanks!

YES! Glad to see that I'm not the only one that is trying the new benchmark from Unigine. Running Heaven and Valley for the last 8 years... getting old. Anyone have a review on the VR game part of it? Have not tried this, yet. Curious as to if anyone else besides me using BOINC or FAH to test their OC stability? I don't mind wasting cpu cycles on a pretty benchmark, but would rather be producing at least something with longer runs.
