If the 100£ price difference is no problem you should get the 6820 + 1080, you might get same chances of temp issues from both systems but they are very easy to get rid of. You wont regret the extra performance and the rear panel can be replaced anytime if you're looking forward to it![]()
EDIT: I play BF1 @2560x1440p but sometimes my fps drop as low as 40 (6700 + 1070) I guess I'll have to lower some video settings![]()

UPDATE: Tobii already sent my game code

Thanks for reply. What sort of avg fps you get in Bf1 then medium, high settings and ultra. Thank you

Go for 6820HK anytime bro. It'll make huge difference in gaming and overall experience. Its worth the price.Xavier2612 likes this.

I'm pretty sure you must order directly from dell store to qualify. If you did order from dell try following this procedure. Nevertheless this didn't work for me so I opened a ticket @ tobiigaming.com and a few weeks later I had my free game code.
I'll bench BF1 tomorrow and share results but still 6820 + 1080 outperform 6700 + 1070Xavier2612 likes this. -
I ordered the first day. My current delivery estimate is March 27... but I have no shipping confirmation, so that's not happening. iUnlock ordered earlier in the day than me, I hit him up on Discord last night to see if he had shipping info. He wasn't able to confirm or deny.Last edited: Mar 24, 2017

I play BF1 all the time, I'd definitely go for a 6820HK. With a repaste you can comfortably run BF1 at 4GHz with temps in the 70's! It's well worth it over the restricted 6700HQ that will be the bottleneck for gaming in the future (and currently in BF1 too as games get more CPU demanding. With the 1080 at QHD everything maxed on ultra I get 95+ FPS but the average is over 100. On my 4K TV with everything on ultra at 4K I get 55+.

I've literally never seen anything lower than like 80. That's a big difference do you have a problem?

Looks like dell is having troubles producing the new units (i7 7820hk gtx 1080) in time...^^ they just changed the delivery date of mine from april 4th to april 7th
i ordered it on march 10th -
Thats the exact same fps im getting with my r4 too. At 1440p bf1 is between 90-120fps with it usually in the 105 range. At 4K its 55-60 with it usually locked to 60fps. Its only on certain maps like argon forest that i see the lows.Pete Light likes this.

Supply and demand -- mine looks to be pushed out as well. Waited over a month for current 1080GTX ... looks 7th gen might be the same but at least this time a new panel will be part of the picture.

Edit: my power plan was set to power saver ill test again asap

I ordered mine on 19th March expected delivery on April 3. Pretty sure its all going to be shipped in one go. China to North America.
I am waiting for a few people to write there review on the NEW Alienware 17 r4. Hopefully they put in some work on the heatsink and fixed it. They did take there time releasing the 7820hk with GTX 1080. -
When did you order yours? I put my order in on the 17th and my date says 3/28-4/5
-
let me guess your delivery is between April 3-10?
-
Good to know thanks! FYI that's running at 4GHz with the GPU completely stock because the new vBIOS seems really unstable with any kind of OC!

Poland here. Got an e-mail on 23.03 that mine 7820HK/1080 is being shipped.. should be here @Monday. Funny, faster than the Vindicator 2.0 backpack. I placed the order on 17.03.
-
@pkj1984 wow congrats!! that's luck i guess xD i'm from austria and mine won't be delivered until april 7th (i ordered it on march 10th)
-
Guessing that the main problem isn't that people don't register but that they like me never use it.
-
And even more funny when you realize Schenker will refuse to deliver the laptop before the backpack has arrived as they are only allowed to to one delivery. At least that was the case in Sweden.
-
The main problem of the MSI keyboard I would say is the crazy layout. Not sure if it is more like how most US keyboards are, but at least in Europe, it is way off compared to anything else. And that damn relocated AltGr drove me crazy.iunlock likes this.

Nice! Is that a Dbrand skin?

Isn't the R4 the only one that has Tobii?

So, having been out of the loop for a while, whats the status on the QHD+ striping issue? Is it finally solved now?
-
Hi guys. So I have been looking for a backpack for the 17R4 for a while and finally found one that fits the bill and doesn't break the bank. I sadly missed out on the Vindicator 2.0 deal for 69.99 (would have gotten that in a heartbeat).
I ended up getting the new lenovo backpack from amazon for less than 45 shipped. Fits perfectly and very well padded. I couldn't be happier.

I don't hate it.. how does it differ from the Vindicator ... other than $?
-
I bought the Vindicator today while I wait for my R4. If I am going to spend that much on a laptop a decent bag is worth it.
I am not sold on it though. However, only other backpacks that I've seen that can hold it are these.
I am tempted to buy all 4 and just return the ones that don't work. Thoughts?

Only seen a Vindicator 2.0 at an airport but didn't look in it. Can't say how different if any it is. They look pretty darn similar.
Don't get me wrong, I am not against spending money on good quality but I don't think the vindicator is worth the 100+ they ask for it. I have read way too many reviews that claim it doesn't last. If I was going to spend the money though I would get the Everki.
Oh on a sidenote, I only plan to take the 17 with me 5 or 6 times a year, so provided the lenovo backpack lasts that long, it did its job. -
Hey guys just a little update.
So I'll have the new 17R4 in my hands by early week....expect some major testing / repasting etc...
Stay tuned... Have a great weekend all.bsch3r likes this. -
Anyone have the part number new for the new 120Hz TN display?
-
Yeah I think I am going to go everki. After looking at the vindicator 2.0. It def is made for the alienware but the quality doesn't seem that great.
-
Someone posted this on the alienware reddit saying theirs shipped already.
From Reddit -
Hey! My new 17R4 just shipped! Here is the new screens part number 391-BDFB! I cant find any information about it when i search for parts. Anyone who can help me here? I know its the new screen because the old one had the part number 391-BCXE. -
Hmmm... I'm having my panel replaced on Tuesday:
Part Number: JYWWF LCD, 17.3QHD, AG, AUO (replace WJGD4 - current part number). -
Vindicator after 1.5 years of hauling it around
This was the old 18" version they offered in 2015. Everything but the back is in top shape still. The back seems to have a harder more resilient material under the scratched surface.MSGaldenzi likes this. -
What he means is expect a [Alienware 17R4 / 15R3] - Disassembly + Repaste Guide + Results 2.0. Unlike 1.0 this one has 2.0 in its name and like all good stuff it wont be as good as the original BUT, you will look at it none the less like you do every single time. kind of like the movies.
In all seriousness
can't wait for the tear down.

Have never used my Vindicator 2.0 backpack but it seems to be of good quality.
Am I the only one that would like a backpack where you could fit something like a AW17 but not have enough space to pack everything you would need for a 2 week survival trip in the jungle? And enough extra straps to support a Mount Everest climb? I just use it back and forth to the office
-
I placed two separate orders, thinking that I will wait for the backpack I need until mid-april
-
i ordered the briefcase instead and i got mine.... I had to call them because they pushed the delivery to September lol.
-
As of this morning I have a tracking number.
-
Souldn't the Asus ROG Nomad V2 backpack also fit the AW 17r4?
The V1 (which i have) is just marginal too small but as the V2 fits the asus g752 modells, it should also fit the AW right?
By the way i really like the ROG Nomad backpack. It's VERY durable and also practical. -
not sure dbrad if they have one .. i bought it from ebay

So is there an easy way to make the GPU default to integrated only? I try to monitor what uses the 1070 and even if I tell it to default to integrated, I think they are still pulling from the GTX. When I travel next week, my goal will be to maximize battery life.
-
If you're using GSync then you're out of luck, no intel graphics because Intel interferes with Gysnc.
-
Nah... I returned the Gsync panel for the extra battery life of the 1080p. As I usually hook up to a 21:9 monitor anyway I figured money saved and benefit of better battery life was a no brainer.

I just ordered refurb from ebay reseller
AW 17 R4
2560x1440p G sync + Tobi
6820HK
GTX 1080
256 GB SSD
1 TB HDD
Warranty from end of feb this year .
My question is do i still should expect temps issues? I've seen refurb AW 17 R4 from feb have no temps issues ? I'm moving from Clevo P775DM3 to AW 17 R4Last edited: Mar 26, 2017 -
The CoolBell in purple would make a statement -
-
You couldn't be further from the truth.
I have a 2.0 and the quality is fantastic. It's massively well padded and stitched together, I wouldn't dream on scrimping on 30 - 40 bucks for the risk of inferior build quality but good luck!

Hey guys a short question:
I ordered my R4 with only 8GB of ram. I'll upgrade it of course and that's what my question is about.
8GB 2400MHz (that are already in there) + 8GB 2400Mhz for around 65€
OR
32GB 2133Mhz for 170€ (that's pretty cheap i think)
I use the R4 mainly for gaming, Netflix and now and then recordings/mixing with Cubase.
Is there a big difference between 2133MHz and 2400MHz?
