i used TG Kryonaut, but will retest with ICD the next weeks. I also used TG Kryonaut in my Desktop (5960X@ 4,625ghz) for 3 years
never had this behavior with TG Kryonaut... and i use it since years with GPUs and CPUs
@Papusan what version of ICD is best? And do you think i will have an benefit changing my thermal paste from TGK to ICD?
From what i saw until now a A51m repaste gives only minor benefits... Most of the improvement comes from the better binned CPU and delidding.

sorry double post
-
There is only one version
Let’s see how long Kryonaut last. No reason put on ICD right now.raz8020 likes this. -
190W vs 200W
Looks like clocks were also slightly increased
Have you tried the latest 1.3.0 BIOS? You can change multipliers in BIOS as well.raz8020, SlickDragon, Johnksss and 1 other person like this. -

iam confused
not yet. will do tonight -
-
ah ok ^^
i think my GPU gets a bit warmer now, but have to confirm this first. Thats why i thought to try ICD -
Only bad heatsink fits pump out thermal paste so fast. How long you had the laptop? 2 days?
-
i mean warmer after the repaste compared to stock paste
but we talk about 2-3 degree. so i have to confirm this before i do further steps
-
Maybe Dell’s was thicker? Kryonaut is a creamy soft paste. And Gpu temp has never been Dell’s huge problem.Arrrrbol likes this.

therefore my idea with ICD
-
Rather try Phobya Nanogrease Extreme.propeldragon, raz8020, SlickDragon and 3 others like this.

i will. Since the repaste in done in 30mins the time effort is not so high

TGK needs curing time I believe.

So I got some good news and some bad news.
So the good news is that The Division 2 runs spectacularly. It the first real game I've played in the laptop. I played about 30 minutes of it and the temperatures were around 80 degrees on both GPU and CPU, with the CPU undervolted at set to 5ghz,a balance fans, and game at max settings. Really stunning to look at. The GPU often hit 200W usage, so that new vbios came in handy!
Now for the bad news. I only got to play 30 minutes because all of a sudden smoke started coming from the back of the laptop. Laptop instantly shut off, and then I saw some more smoke and some yellowish light from the back. Now everything smells like smoke.
So yeah, that was a fun 3 weeks or so. Time to contact Dell...propeldragon, SlickDragon, VoodooChild and 3 others like this. -
Yikes, you are the second person thus far to have the laptop smoke...first was someone on reddit.
Let us know if you can have them find out what caused that.raz8020, SlickDragon, Arrrrbol and 1 other person like this. -

My first AW18 with sli 780m cars went up in smoke in the middle of Battlefiled 4. Dell made me send it in instead of sending a tech so they could check the whole thing over. Ended up being a gpu if I remember right. They had it 3-4 days then sent it back. Only crappy thubg was it had that faint smell of burned electronics forever.

Hey,
yesterday when my 51m was in Idle i recognised a silent sound coming from it.
After some researching I believe this could be CPU whining. It’s only there when the Power connectors are plugged in. When in battery mode I do not hear anything.
It’s not very loud, but still annoying.
Did anyone else has a problem like this?

Dang man that's unfortunate. Curious, when did your order your machine and what were the specs? -
@Sven Boden
read the last 5-10 pages

I ordered 9900k /2080 / 512x2 raid 0 on 7/3. Original ETA 22/3.
Ive checked with Dellcare via Twitter and they claimed that it was in the production but cant confirm what causes the delay and suspects shortage of parts.Last edited: Mar 15, 2019 -
I have same thing.
But min also make sound when on battery but its 90% less sound compared to when ac brick connected.
It seems the sound comes from the motherboard and some chips.
Its called Coil whine apparently. -
I have this from time to time... not nearly as pronounced as with the couple of other rtx laptops I've tried (and returned). ; )
If it really bothers you at idle, try a quieter thermal profile in CC. I've found that usually reduces all noise pretty well. I typically run balanced for day to day / performance while gaming.Aradhakr84 likes this. -
New review (9700K/2070) -

Haha this is entertaining. I love how the girl is so annoyed by the dual power adapters, and they just dump it on the brand new lid

This couple is great. More entertaining than Linus for sure

Grats mate, mine supposed to ship on 14/3 as well but just got delayed for another week.
-
I wonder if literally anyone received their order without any delays.. I got delayed yesterday till the 27/3 due to "parts shortage" (in Germany)

Scary! 2nd one now to put on a smoke show... Hopefully Dell investigates these quickly....hadi7fold likes this. -
I hear it with fans on also.... I have it on balanced profile. It says fans run on 43%-49%. I can hear.
Ofc with performance and max, I only hear the fans. In gaming I doubt I will have issue with this but, I do use this computer for youtube, writting, reading, photos, shopping etc
I contacted dell about it and they told me to update all drivers and then they will do something from there side.
Guys, do you see any risk with me asking dell to replace my motherboard only?
Or is new laptop preferred? (Only issue then is that I might get dead pixel screens etc) -
Hi someone can post their XTU profile for I7 9700K? just to see if i forgotten something
-
Very nice, and very lucky. Mine was originally supposed to arrive 14th - 19th but still no shipped status. Just says it's built with an expected ship date of the 17th.

My laptop changed from pre-production to in production with HIDevolution today!!!!

Coil whine from the chokes/inductors is completely normal for high performance computer motherboards, however some are louder than others unfortunately. Coil whine is not a fault in any way with the laptop and it wont damage the motherboard if you had to leave it/ignore it. It's up to you if you want Dell to possibly replace your motherboard but there is a big chance that your replacement will make the same whining noise

Not possible get same high pitched sound. I had plenty of high performance laptops and most were silent and some faint sound when eeryhting is silent you could hear. This I hear with fans on and speakers on.
My question was not if I should do something. Its either new laptop or ask them change the motherboard. And if there is any cons to pick the motherboard replacement. -
Just checked with Dell support. My order is in transit from Asia to US. Ordered this on 03/08 and my estimated delivery date was 03/14 - 03/19. It seems packing slip I saw was an estimate generated during order, as shipping date can change.
Can't wait to get it. Hope I can receive it by Monday.Last edited: Mar 15, 2019 -
"I have checked the shipping details and find that it is not available as of now, as we are currently experiencing IT issues and the carrier webscan is not updated with the delivery progress. We are following up with the internal teams to get this fixed." response i got from dell regarding lack of tracking currently.
-
Where do you see "built". Same situation for me, but without that marker.
Getting worried. -
I've ordered an Area 51m with 9900K and RTX2080, 32 GB RAM and the 256 GB NVMe. I'll install a 1 TB 2.5" SSD and a 2 TB SATA m.2 SSD once I get it.
What do I need to do to get it working without overheating? I guess undervolt the CPU? -
When you go to your order status page, you will see the following (You need to login to your account to see this message)
I checked with Dell and packing slip is not something you go by. Packing slip was generated during my order confirmation last week and nothing has changed since. I asked Dell support about the latest update and was told that it is in transit from Asia to US with estimated delivery date 03/18. -
Shoot; I don’t have that
Thanks, though! -
Honestly you not seeing this does not mean its delayed. You can contact dell support and ask them about the status. They should have updated information than Dell website.
-
Yup - just got done messaging and got told to call the parts modification team - my machine is facing a parts shortage... seems to be the common thread. I'll call them in a bit.
Things come up. Not the end of the world. But man it would be nice if Dell could just send me these updates instead of having to chase them down to get a true status update on the delay of my $4,000 order :-/ 'tis life. -
It sucks, but you are right. Dell should have better notification system than us constantly calling/chatting with them for updates. Parts shortage and delays should be communicated to customers immediately. Till yesterday I was told that my order was in production even though I got the "Your custom-item is built" status on Wednesday. Today I had to find out that it is in transit from Asia. Even though it sounds good, I am still hesitant to believe them completely. I won't believe until I get this in my hand.MvPeteson28 likes this.

UPDATE: Seems the parts shortage is for the Lunar Light 17 G-Sync display assembly. I asked if I could switch to the black variant and if that would make a difference (plus I'd save $50) just out of curiosity, but the answer was I'd have to cancel and re-order.
Said my shipping date is now 3/22, with delivery on Monday the 25th. I asked why I had to call to get that information, and he said it's because I'm still in the original delivery window, and there's a chance they can still deliver it on time. I kinda pushed, and said "but you just told me on your system it's saying I'm gonna get it on the 25th." He countered and said, yes, that's true, but parts sometimes come in quicker.
Eh - again - not the end of the world. Sucks waiting, but I'll survive. Just really hate how difficult this whole process is. I'm gonna cross my fingers I get lucky and see this by Tue next week (19th, original delivery deadline).
I will just roll with the punches for now. Hope for the best. Expect the 25th at the latest. But if it's any later than that, I'll definitely be pushing for sometime of apology credit... especially if I have to call again. That was a waste of 30 minutes of my time.
Good luck to everyone else, though!! -
I got the same thing. I actually got an email today and said my item was boxed, ready to be shipped between the 17th and 18th, delivered the 19th. Hopefully the same for you!
-
Good luck on that apology credit, I couldn't even get them to apologize, much less admit they made a mistake when they told me an answer was "yes" instead of "no" during a chat. They just kept saying it was a miscommunication the agent could have expanded on. Oh really, you mean they meant to say, "Yes, no is the answer to the question." Give me a break. You didn't even correct me when I continued the dialog based on a "yes" answer. Just admit you made a mistake so we can move on.mattcube64 likes this.
