The packing slip ship date was 03/17 last week when I ordered and did not change. Now that the production is complete, shouldn't the ship date change as well? I think the packing slip is generated at the time of purchase.
Any chance shipping date will be sooner than 03/17?

Depends when they get a full load onto the 747 from China....Aradhakr84 likes this. -
Packing slip is generated when construction is complete in asia. It then has to go through basic quality control, then shipped to the US (or your nearest distribution center I'm assuming) where it is checked again and then shipped to the consumer.
EDIT: as @pathfindercod said, it also depends on when they fill the crate to ship a bunch at once.Last edited: Mar 14, 2019MvPeteson28 and Aradhakr84 like this. -

According to the post above on reddit, If you are in the US and bought your Area 51M though Dell and are within your 30 day return window if you call chat they will refund you the 17% that the laptop is on sale for now. -
I am sorry but I am still confused. When I ordered area 51m on friday 03/08 I got my confirmation email with assigned order number same day. When I checked on the order status on friday 03/08, I came across packing slip with ship date 03/17.
Either way, good news is that the build is complete so expecting any day now. Hopefully sooner.MvPeteson28 likes this. -

They just updated to tool, see if it works now:
ADATA SSD ToolBox 3.0.6 -
Funny that ADATA comes up- I was wondering if you people have good experience with:
https://www.amazon.com/SX8200-Pro-G...8200&qid=1552579294&s=gateway&sr=8-2-fkmrnull
It's a whole lot cheaper than the Samsung Pro's... -
I will say, it's amazing how much worse the ordering experience is with Dell than something like Apple.
Granted, Apple has signficantly less machines and variations - but they do sell a crap ton of computers.
Website is easier to navigate.
Upgrades are easy to understand.
Very little up-selling during the process.
Shipping time is SIGNIFICANTLY better - I purchased a BTO 2017 MBP the moment it went on sale. Shipped from china to my house within 48 hours of ordering.
In-store returns and support.
In-store pickup for several configs.
No confusing pricing structure. No waiting for discounts.Little reason to chat with a seller.
Granted, Dell's way let's you feel like you got a "deal," but it's also a great way to make you feel like you're missing out, should wait, ordered at the wrong time, and all kinds of negative emotions. -
I got contacted by dell saying if i didnt was happy with the laptop i should have let them know within 2 days after recieving it. I swear dell europe is pure horsecrap..
While in the US you have 30 days to return it, Huge discounts and better service.
Pure discrimination.. lolSlickDragon and DannyB513 like this. -
No offense, but I fail to see how this is relevant at all? If you are just mentioning brands that you feel are better than Dell there are probably lots of alternatives. Gaming on Apple is pretty much total crap, so Apples (pun intended) and oranges.DannyB513 likes this.

Sorry - I was commenting on the confusion everyone seems to be having the last few days regarding delivery date ranges, packing slips, and delays/adjustments. Compounded with the comments on Reddit about going back to get a price adjustment because of the 17% off coupon, it's just a rather arduous buying process.
Also, I was just rambling... killing time as I check this thread for the 10th time today, hyped to get my hands on a 51m hopefully as early as next week. Didn't mean to sidetrack.SlickDragon likes this. -
Surely not. In UK you have 14 calendar days in which to return the product, no questions asked.
I can never get my head around the Mac, got a MBP for my wife, it is a terrible system, OS, absolutely horrendous. They say, it is "intuitive" ? Very good quality though, nothing plasticky on it.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 14, 2019carlodelmazo likes this. -
Cool does someone tried from here? I don’t think I will do the windows reinstall until this get fixed as I do use the thunderbolt port
-
Seems like the unit has been receiving some positive feedback. I'm really jealous of those who have the unit.
Has there been any word about the UHD/QHD panels? Also has anyone brought it up to Frank as to why the Windows Hello function is missing on this unit?
I'm not that much of a privacy nut would really like this convenient function on this unit. -
He replied in a tweet some days ago that the QHD panels should be expected by the end of the year...

Brother, I can verify from my own experiences with Dell sales over the course of the last few days that you are right on the mark. Was toying with the idea of getting a 51M, so I spec'd one out with a 9900K, RTX 2080, and 144 MHz screen w/Tobii etc....otherwise, minimum configuration. With the PAYPAL15 code it came to $3040 before taxes. Chatted with Dell sales to see if I could get a few more $ off...they stated they would get back to me in 30 minutes...*crickets*. Got an email around noon the next day saying they could not do better on the price, and I decided to sit and wait.
The day after that I see that SAVE17 is now in effect...but Dell also raised the price on the base config, which now included an additional 8 GB RAM and changing the drive from a 1TB to a 256 GB NVMe...neither of which I want (because I have my own NVMe and RAM)!!...so now the price, with the SAVE17, was around $3300 before taxes! Wouldn't you know it...at noon I get a call out of the blue...the same Dell rep, telling me he can give me my $3040 config with the extra 2% off. I tell him to send me his proposal in writing via email...he says he will in 30 minutes...
Here it is, the next day...*crickets*... I sent him an email, telling him to cease with the time-wasting phone calls.
Bye-bye Dell! If THIS is indicative of what your CS has become, my ducats are going elsewhere. -
A whole lot cheaper? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M7Q21N7/
Not that big of a price difference. I ordered an 970 (non plus) right before the plus came out for less than that ADATA. -
I have had no issues with topcashback with Dell and have received a couple thousand back over the years - every transaction I have done through I have received the cash back for. That being said, take some precautions. When using cash back sites I always start a fresh browsing session with history cleared. I then log into the cash back site and use there link to the merchant site. Using this process I have never had an issue using any cash back sites.SlickDragon and mattcube64 like this.

This is the SSD I picked up. Works well. Everything is super fast. Ran some benchmarks on it and the numbers are pretty much on point with what you see in reviews. I reckon that for most people, they won't be able to feel any difference between these nvme SSDs; the only time you can tell is during benchmarks from the actual numbers. Other than that, it's milliseconds in difference between loading games and documents.
Main reason I got it is because it's so much cheaper than Samsung SSDs here. Also, Samsung's warranty is weird in Canada... It's not very straightforward, and you can only get warranty for Canadian SKUs? Or something like that -
I’ve had this since Monday morning and mine still hasn’t shipped. I’m expecting delivery between the 14th and 19th. But customer support said to me when that line pops up, the computer is in the final stages of production and my estimated ship date was the 18th and arrival of the 19th.

That is about 100 pts higher than what I have with Alienware Control Center set to Overclock 2 and a GPU overclock of 80/80 (may be +/- 5 since I forgot the exact number I used).
It looks like my GPU is beating your GPU and your CPU is beating my CPU. I have higher scores in graphics tests, but lower physics and combined tests. Interesting. You have 8gb of ram, my set up has 32gb. My GPU has a slight overclock with MSI Afterburner (80/80 IIRC during this benchmark), which explains why it is winning there.
My CPU is undervolted to -.125mV core/cache with throttle stop for this test, I'll try a more aggressive undervolt and overclocking with TS and see what I can squeeze out. I abhor XTU and think it sucks
I definitely want to undervolt my GPU as well, but it is kinda of a PITA in comparison to CPU. Some GPUs don't support the auto curve undervolt and overclock, so you have to sit there messing with sliders and can easily lose your progress
The returns on GPU undervolting have been far less beneficial for me in the past than CPU undervolting. I think CPU undervolting has been a requirement in every laptop I've owned the last 4 years, just to control thermals. Not the case with GPUs, and I've stressed the Area-51m extensively with AIDA64 and never had GPU thermal issues. Buuuut, might be able to squeeze a few more points in benches... I'll give it a try eventually.
I don't know who has the top score for 9700k/2080 yet. I saw a 24000+ score earlier in the thread, but not sure what proc it was or who it was. Might be a great resource if they can let us know what their settings were. -

I'm very happy with my laptop, no bleeding, no dead pixels, I don see a problem carrying the 2 psu, the format is very robust and looks slick with the edges design around the body, I don't think is huge, looks smaller when you see it compared to other 17'' laptops around, the screen is amazing and for me fullhd its enough for this size.
I got the black version and I do really love it, because its a matte color not completely black, more dark grey and it something that it matches my preferences.
something I'm really surprise is the keyboard, it just feels right to write in it, I'm quite surprise, the touchpad had that little gap that we talked before in previous post, but its not huge bummer so I can live with that and its very responsive touchpad.
I opened inside and I was surprise they included the bay and stuff for the ssd, so in case I buy a new ssd I can use it there, that was cool.
I'm attaching my link to my benchmark in 3dmark, please if someone can take a look if you don't mind, this is the first time doing this benchmarks so any help will be appreciate, OC was set up using Alienware CC to 5ghz / 1.12 / -100 fans in performance mode and it does get hot over 90, so I guess will need a repaste later on.

thank you a lot guys to everyone here because I'm learning a lot about how to use this machine properly.

Did you by any chance run the same test with the Dell CPU before you swapped it out?
go to C:\Programs\MSI Afterburner\Profiles ** (wherever it is installed)
open the relevant GPU file, for example VEN_10DE&DEV_1BE0&SUBSYS_08771028&REV_A1&BUS_1&DEV_0&FN_0.cfg
add this

I am quite a noob in PC gaming. Will undervolting/overclocking be sufficient enough in Alienware Command Center for an amateur like me ? I heard it doesnt affect much. But I am not willing to tinker too much with my system when I recieve it. Maybe a year or two down the line when I get more comfortable with apps such as MSI Afterburner. I also feel not much more performance is need from 2080/9700 in todays titles.
Also will running firestrike and checking temps during it be a good way to test Thermal performance of my machine when I get it ? (what is thr best/easiest/noob friendly app to do so)
Thanks lads. this forum has been very helpful for me to make an educated purchase and quite fun to read through in the last weeks. Game on lads !carlodelmazo likes this. -
Anyone know exactly what this change in the new bios did/does?
" Improved the power management feature to balance the CPU performance, power consumption, and thermal management."
Maybe i'm paranoid, but it seems the "balanced" profile in control center is running hotter than it used to... -

The vrm's would of been hotter then that, unless you were undervolting of course. I also use those to measure temps. -

Undervolt can be quite effective, so do try it. It's not very advanced to do a basic UV. HWMonitor works ok for getting the temps. There are a free version available.hadi7fold likes this.

Your new 9900K is amazing - but is it also because you have also changed the thermal grease from Dell's factory default to something else? It is well known that except LM, thermal grease works like a charm for the first few days/weeks but deteriorates slowly (or quicker) over time.c69k likes this.
