Honestly, I don't know why anyone would put up with Dell's CS, QC, etc. They are not the only game in town.

Because there are also people where everything went perfect. Ordered and got it 2 weeks later and no issues so far :)

Yeah, it's pretty poor tbh. Drop a tweet to @DellCares - they were responsive, they'll follow you and then you can send them your Order No.

I placed my order on 14th March, was told it would arrive by 5th April. I then noticed on 20th March they had re-credited my account with the funds. Called them on 21st March and they said "No probs, all gonna ship tomorrow (22nd) and we'll take payment then" - On 22nd I saw it didn't move to a shipped status. Contacted them again where they said 'Oo, yeah it should have shipped but it didn't for some reason' - they then told me I have a new date of 8th April, this means (assuming the same ship duration) it should have shipped yesterday. It didn't!

Contacted them again, they told me that the original issue was the laptop failed a QA test and that it was definitely on track for delivery on 8th. Checked today, still not shipped and it's supposed to take 10 days to get here from China. Contacted them again - they've now told me it will ship tomorrow, but still miraculously arrive by 8th!

I'll believe it when I see it.

Well that's good...but I'm beginning to wonder if cases like yours are becoming the exception and not the rule (especially the two week turn-around time)...and not just regarding the A51M. Reading over the posts in this thread, similar QC and CS issues seem to harken back to systems that came out years ago as well.

Delayed again. Fourth time. Now set for April 4th. I'm pretty much done.

I'm waiting for a 2080Ti HydroCopper to come in stock. If it shows up before the laptop arrives, I'm just gonna build a desktop. Truly the absolute worst ordering process for anything I've ever bought online that costs more than a grand.

I know it's the same socket, but some people in some past posts have said that processors that were not listed by dell like the 8700 "K" and 8086K would not work properly and even some BIOS options would be missing for those processors. Was that true?
btw: 5.4 on all 6 cores? what a beast! :p

You might as well cancel the order and wait for sometime. I lost track of a post where someone said Dell reps did say to subscribe or something to track A51m order.

It’s more of an industry thing — if manufacturers aren’t making 1440P panels of that class, Dell can’t buy them. You could argue that specifying a thin bezel was the mistake, but the market has made it pretty clear that that is what many people want, especially at the high end (dollar-wise). It’s a feature that has enabled what is arguably an entirely new class of laptop this year (ultra small footprint thin and light 17” models like the GX701 and GS75) and the A51m sort of straddles that ideal — slim bezel to keep the footprint down for maximum portability, while keeping the true DTR capabilities. So, I can’t hold it against them. There are plenty of fat-bezel DTR options, if that’s what one wants.

And while I too am not thrilled about the 1080P limitation, it is still a really good option for gaming on the go. 4K is also understandable, as the market has made those such a major checkbox feature that even 13” laptops have gotten them (which.... um... ok, they look nice, but... really?) If the existing QHD models were selling in large numbers, they would have been prioritized in this new slim bezel 17” display class, too. It’s reasonable to infer that they aren’t.

I’m astonished that a company with Dell’s size & expertise can be so bad at logistical planning in 2019.

HID had some models in stock last I checked (yesterday). Black only I think in the 2080 class. Probably just 9700k models. But they were available to ship immediately.

Mine was "supposed" to ship today... got the same crap from chat about a part delay.

Seriously think I'm just going to cancel and get the i7/2070 setup from Microcenter that I used to have. It ran great, no problems. Sure, not as great of a deal as the 17% off, but I really need a laptop... can't afford to wait another 2+ weeks with no real indication of when I'd get one in.

Any other laptops I should consider? (I realize this probably isn't the thread for that).

I was looking at this beast as well which is the same price. My only gripe with microcenter is I configured the same laptop on dell but $100 but has a 2080 and that's not including the rakuten cash back.

Thanks for the reply. Already tried that but it says everything is up to date. On the site it says i have to run this installer:
    Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Tobii\Deployment\DCHU\signed\TobiiMiddlewareComponent\drivers\<random folder name>

But there is not a tobii map anywhere to be found on the program files folder. I made a ticket with them so I'll wait for that.

your not running the monitor at 120hz? base clock is 100hz, but enabling the 120hz overclock setting built into the monitor works great for me.

Of course I am, but I didn't remember the model # and didn't want to suggest I have a 120hz monitor, as it's not marketed that way. But yes, always running at 120hz.

I have a PG27UQ on my desktop and I can't imagine how much a 4k 120 hz panel will cost. I would expect to pay $500-750 on top of the 144 hz monitor... so I would keep that in mind when deciding. In my opinion unless your a content creator a 4k display is wasted on a 17 inch laptop and the 2080 is not capable of driving games anywhere near that at those frame rates.

Hey - have an old Qosmio that does this (open lid and no display, but machine is still running) from time to time. All I do is hit WIN+X , U, H to force hibernation, or U a second time to shut down. Usually better than holding power for 4 seconds :)

I've looked everywhere in the box, but couldn't fine the microfiber cleaning cloth and spray. It's suppose to come with a cleaning kit right? jk jk

It's refreshing to have a color that is different from the usual. This lunar white is gorgeous and really brings out the lines making it lively.

Running some benches at the moment lol... Turned it on and went right into testing... Another long night ahead.

So... I tried that. They won't price match because Dell doesn't sell that exact sku / configuration... In other words they intentionally make the build for retailers.

What I ended up doing was trying an open box item. It was surprisingly discounted $300! ... Plus 5% more off if you open a microcenter credit card. Seems like either the previous owner or microcenter nuked the Alienware recovery partition because I'm only getting a fresh windows. Also keep getting oobeidps errors on initial setup... Weird.

In the end I actually saved a lot over my initial purchase and the cancelled higher end spec. If I can get it working correctly I'll be pleased.

FYI, a base windows installation doesn't seem to have some of the killer drivers & it really screws up contacting windows/microsoft accounts until you install those. ; )

Getting my 9700k/2070 setup nicely again! Would have been nice to have the i9/2080 I ordered, but this is going to save me close to $800 over the 17% off sale 2080 spec AND I have it now (which I honestly needed).

Forgot how much I also love the white color & this keyboard. Except that the moron who had this before set the keys to hot pink. Next up on the install list... ACC... ; )

Ah maybe you misunderstood. I'll clarify my post, but I had meant stock as in stock system... not stock gpu lol..

It never crossed my mind that I would ever have to clarify something that would be obvious... at any rate, thanks for letting me know.
