You should go buy some lottery tickets since it seems you hit the lottery on both your CPU and GPU!!!

The +134 / +200 through Afterburner was as high as my 2080 would go without artifacting and shutting down Firestrike mid-run. At this setting in-game it runs at between 1850-2050 which is good. My CPU is what is holding me back.

The binning on my CPU is even worse. I can hit 5GHZ on all cores of my delidded 9700K but that is between 85-90C on performance fans OC'ing it through XTU. My CPU does not like to be UV'd much at all without shutting down my system and also doesn't like core voltage in the 1.24 range either without getting BSOD's and shutdowns..

I really need to learn the ins and outs of Throttlestop and keep tweaking. If I can't get any better results than I have been using it. I will just suffer until comet lake comes out and if it is compatible I will order a Silicon Lottery version of it.

    True, very true!!!

I will not make the same mistake again. HID offered a SL delidded 9900k, but I went with the delidded 9700K thinking it would run cooler. I have never really messed around with OC'ing too much in the past, just undervolting when it comes to CPU. I will keep working at it to see if I can bring temps down.

Never thought it would happen to me, but I spend more time tweaking than I do actually playing games even though I get good framerates in games. Got to sqeeze that little bit extra out. Was playing the Division 2 about 3-5 hours a day when I first bought it and since this laptop has come in I think I may have played a total of 2-3 hours. I start the game only to run the benchmark. LOL!

no worries. when people say "stock" and "out of the box", that's exactly what it means. no tweaking, no modding, straight up factory state performance figures, hence the term "out of the box". and since "GPU" is very much part of the "system", then stock system certainly include stock gpu.

It was deliided, which I know won't bring the temps down too much over the stock solder. I was just hoping for better temps while running higher clocks. I am still very happy with the way my laptop performs in games. Runs butter smooth even with the CPU at stock.

Like I said, I just caught the tweaking bug and want to squeeze the most I can out of the system.

Yea I'm aware of what that means. I literally unboxed it just then and was posting from my phone. Given the graphics score, I had assumed that it would be obvious that those weren't stock gpu clocks. I think most people in here are keen to realize that. But anyhow, all good...

yeah, that's how i caught it. other less keen people might misintepret it as being able to achieve that out of the box stock system with no tweaking and OC before you clarified it. anyway, all good.

edit: let's see how much u can squeeze out of your system. how are the thermal pad conditions especially for the GPU for your unit?

At 50x on all 8 cores all in the red as expected.

As for the GPU on stock gpu clocks with a single Fire Strike run hit only 73C @ 194W (1950Mhz/1800MHz). The CPU on the single Fire Strike run were avg. 87C @ 120W with no cores in the red.

I'm pretty optimistic with pulling some good numbers with this system...

I'll be including all of this data in my final review...

Indeed. Yup that's the plan ... I think the highest Fire Strike is 26425, which I'm after in maybe being able to de-throne it. :p Even if the system can't the fact that it's within arms reach is impressive when you take into account that it's the best built laptop out there with quality components. It's going to be fun...

unfortunatley the 9700k is just a bad binned 9900k without HT. Disable HT on an 9900k and you have and very good binned 9700k. When i disable HT i can run 5ghz with better temps than 4.7ghz with HT.

    i bought it from private.

maybe you can share your tweaks (hardware + software) when you topped 26k. :) with +188/+900 (~29,8k GS) and 5.2ghz 9900k i landed near the 26k mark...atm i dont know where / what to tweak to get higher (win tweaks? driver tweaks? dont know)

I do not trust any decision to be "reasonable" with Alienware. For an extra few mm width (5mm ?), that no one would notice, they would be able to support many more FHD/QHD/UHD options. What is reasonable in saying "we trimmed the sides down by an extra 5mm but we dropped QHD and UHD" ?

Then again, what is reasonable in so many other design choices, like the "tripod" heatsink over the CPU? How hard would an extra post be at the design stage ? And how many problems and refunds it has resulted to ?

What driver are you on currently? Tweaks wise 99% boils down to silicon lottery. What's nice here is that everything is now modular. I have several binned 9900K's standing by...

I'm curious if any owners have the latest nvidia driver working properly? The Nvidia controller panel is nowhere to be found after the install. I've seen this issue and am aware of the methods to fix it, but none of those fixes are working...

Ah yes.. I know exactly how that's like. :p

I prefer to not use any of the extra nvidia stuff, which is why I like to just install it manually myself. I've tried several drivers and they install fine, but the control panel is inaccessible.

did anyone ever run into the issue, that in AWCC in the fusion tab cpu shows as 0.00ghz, 0c temp and 0% load? gpu and ram show correctly and hwinfo, ts etc. all work fine. i'm trying to set oc levels in awcc, since i can't get the cpu to go over 4.9 with ts and therefore assumed i need to set an oc level within awcc first, but yeah ^^

man... i was expecting 9700K to run cooler and OC bettter. Yours cant even UV well... i mean, are you able to get at least -100mV? paying more for CPU sounds tempting but it contribute little to no performance gains in games. and we are talking about a lot more, far more if you go for silicon lottery (SL) version. 9700K-->9900K + SL can easily cost you $1000 more for a total of 0-1fps increase in games.

speaking of lottery.. i wonder, for those that did not pay for SL and if their laptop came with a good 9900K, will those resellers take it out and give it to those who paid for SL and put in a crap 9900K instead? I cant imagine they throw that 9900k if it doesnt OC well...

Last night for me, I launched AWCC I was told that there was an update to the OC controls and FX. Downloaded and ran the update for it to fail multiple times telling me that the OC software was already on my PC and to uninstall it first.

The OC and FX portion of AWCC are separate DL's from the MS store. However, they do not show in Start as separate programs. I had to go to Settings and then to Apps to uninstall. Once I uninstalled through there the updates took. Weird thing is that now both OC-1 and OC-2 are defaulted to 4.9 which is the OOB settings with no OC of the 9700K.

I am now in the process of downloading another AWCC update. What this is for I do not know yet.

If you are having problems with an AWCC update go to settings, Apps, and delete whatever portion of the AWCC the update is for and then it should work.

which is why i never trust dell support assist software. i always do manual checking and updating directly from dell support website, checking the revision number, changelog, dates before updating any new software. a lot of times the "updates" will have a new date but it's the exact same revision number as previous release, indicating a false "update".

There is nothing you can do to stop these AWCC updates. They do not come from running the support assist app. When you open AWCC it just pops up on the screen and starts downloading. You cannot use AWCC while it is downloading either. Also, when it wouldn't update last night, it wasn't because the rev levels were the same for the OC controls and FX controls already on system and what was downloaded. it wouldn't update them because they were there.

To me it is dumb that everything isn't included from the get go with AWCC. The sound, FX, and OC are all separate downloads that once downloaded and installed show up in AWCC. They should all be included in the download of AWCC and then if one is not compatible with your system it should just be grayed out to where you can't use it.

Heck, if they want to do it the way it is now, at least have everything as separate executable files and not UWP apps.

I'm seeing this all the time as I'm checking for driver updates, I get excited seeing a new date, then I check the version it says released on X Date (which is a bit old) but the file it self says updated on like today's date. So I'd download it, extract it, and the files and file sizes are 100% the same.

I've seen this on the Area-51m Drivers page, Alienware m15, and my 5 year old wife's Dell Vostro.

Anyone else notice that gsync is completely broken? If you use the gsync visual indicator, it won’t enable in full screen games. Apparently it’s been an issue for months. How can they advertise this as a gsync display when nvidia and windows bugs won’t let it work?

exactly my point, but what @DannyB513 showed was more like a forced update initiated by AWCC itself, so i guess there's really nothing you can do to stop that. i was under the impression it came from that stupid support assist bloatware which it didnt.

Hmmm. Got my 2060 A51m 6 days ago. However the keyboard just completely died after command center updated and rebooted. I mean, no lights at post, no nothing. Spent an hour on the phone with tech support doing the same things I already tried but nothing working. Sending it in for repair. A real bummer because it was working really well with great fps and low thermals. Dont see any related posts, so it must be a manufacturing quirk with mine.

    *edit*

Actually, I just found another post describe a similar problem. The common factor was the command center software. Hmm....

The update from my earlier screenshot was an update for the entire AWCC app. Now Advanced is gone under FX like reported earlier and I cannot change anything about the keyboard. Can only change power button, trackpad, tron lighting, and alien head on lid.

So I deleted AWCC and when re-installed it gave me a message that no AlienFX peripherals installed and that AlienFX would not be fully operational unless there were. Guess our Alienware Keyboards on our Alienware laptops are not actually Alienware....LOL.

Now AWCC is installing additional components. Will report back when it is done as to if this problem is fixed.

I think they messed it up with the update. I can´t acces the keyboard lightning to after the update. Will just wait for a fix.

Had everything on mine set to bright yellow but didn't have it saved. So now everything is yellow but the keyboard and it is dark.

I've had no problems with AWCC, I fresh installed windows and only installed bare essentials, none of the dell updater crap, if it isn't broke I won't fix it, windows will still install important security updates. Does AWCC update itself? Can it be turned off?

I opened it earlier today and it automatically popped up and said it was updating components and I couldn't do anything.

Right now on this fresh install it gave me the option to skip additional components, but if I had skipped there would be no OC controls although I really don't use them anyway. I also want to see if this fixes my lighting problem.

This update after fresh install from MS store was just the whole app updating again. however when it finished and I fired AWCC back up I now have lighting on the keyboard, although it is the default Alienware blue that the laptop shipped with. Now to re-downlaod FX-02 from MS store and see if I get full control of my lighting and keyboard back.

    Problem FIXED:

    1. Go into control panel and delete AWCC and OC controls. Then reboot laptop.
    2. Re-install AWCC from MS store.
    3. Let update to new version.
    4. Exit AWCC
    5. Go to MS store and re-DL FX-02, OC Controls, and Sound
    6. Once those have installed restart AWCC
    7. Should pop up telling you OC Controls needs to update.
    8. Let it DL.
9 Extract file to a folder
    10. Run EXE from folder with AWCC turned off (this didn't give me the error that OC Controls already installed)
    11. Start AWCC again.
    12. have full control over everything again.

Oke, I´m a noob to overlocking but i tried to mess with the system anyway and monitor temps with hw64.

I set the AWCC to 5ghz with an -100uv. I also set the gpu to +150 boostclock with +150 to the memory.

I ran the division 2 benchmark on ultra and got 100fps with a 8800 score. That was way more than i was getting without the OC.

Temps for the cpu did not go above 75 degrees and the gpu stays at 70.

I checked HWinfo and the clockspeed for the cpu was indeed 5ghz and the gpu was clocked at 2100.

I have no idea if it's stable or not but these numbers seem nice?
