Yes, using the internal display

Then something is wrong with your score... On my System i get 40% higher framerate. Can you run it again and post an screenshot? I guess you have an RTX2080?
Last edited: Mar 27, 2019 -
I got an 8170 with 2070 on stock setting and an 8700 on stock with fans in performance mode.
-
It seems that my gpu is always at 80% usage when using the benchmark. Yes i have the 2080. I also have it set to performance.
I´m trying to upload the screenshot gimme a moment.
I also can´t seem to get the afterburner overlay in division 2, it shows up in any other game. Any idea´s?

update riva tuner stat. server to latest version
-
The clocks of the gpu are good while running the benchmark yet it always seems to use 80% and not go over that. If i look on your screenshots it´s 100% most of the time. Gonna try to figure it out.

Could it be that my ram is actually bottlenecking me? If i check hw it's in the red and using 97%. I only have 8gb, gonna upgrade it as soon as my paycheck gets in. Just wondering.

Interesting — delivery dates for new orders are now over a month out (April 30 - May 6 depending on adlivery speed), and the ordering system no longer defaults to Lunar White.

My highest FS score yet, although i have had graphics scores over 28000 before.
This is with +134 clock / +200 mem on 2080 thru Afterburner and 5.0 with -100mv on 9700k thru TS

Yes, Also make sure to disable Windows Search and Superfech. Can also free up ram by disabling Tobii, Skype nonsense, and Dell update garbage.c69k, Darkhan, raz8020 and 1 other person like this. -
so i did all the update downloads and where i am at is everything works like normal but there is no option in FX to change lighting on the laptop keyboard (but there is for the external keyboard). my presets still change the color of the keyboard to what i had previously set though. just wanted to clarify if i have to redo steps 1 through 12 on your list? or if i just have to re download and install FX-02? i don't see a download in the MS store for Alienware FX-02...
-
Pretty sure the FX lighting for the keyboard is a bug in the latest & greatest ACC. :/ (I too don't have the option anymore after the last update... the "advanced" tab/selection choice is seemingly gone now).Vasudev likes this.

as long as all my presets are still working to change the keyboard lights i can wait it out till they fix it. it's not the end of the world. but if his steps bring it back that would be nice. i hate having updates to command center when it is already working well since the program is so easy to make have issues.Dagr likes this.
-
Solved it by reinstalling the latest version and chosing "repair". Now everything works fine

spoke too soon. didn't notice the presets aren't changing the laptop keyboard. it's stuck on red.
-
said F it and just did his steps 1-12 kinda. i just deleted the command center and oc controls like he said. then just rebooted and installed command center. except i let it all auto update instead of downloading the individual programs from microsoft store. the keyboard control is back. everything is normal and it didn't delete my custom OC presets. just deleted my FX presets. i'm happy it's all is back to normal though.Last edited: Mar 28, 2019

I am looking to make a video about some of the Area 51m laptops cooking themselves to death. It would be really helpful if you guys could fill me in and point out any posts that I might have missed, but my understanding is that some of the users here on the forum had their Area 51m cook itself to death because the GPU heatsink/thermal pads were misplaced/not making contact properly, causing severe overheating issues because the components weren't being properly cooled. Some units even smoked and burned out, destroying nearby SSDs in the unit.
I also understand that this has only happened to a handful of laptops, like 4? Not sure how many total. But its a very low failure rate, but when we're talking about a $5k laptop that's still a pretty big deal.
From the best of my understanding, Dell's response has been that they are covering and replacing any laptops that have had this issue, as it falls under warranty coverage. They have also publically stated that this affects only a tiny fraction of a percent of laptops, so it's not really anything to worry about for the majority of users. Can anyone point me to the actual twitter responses? I thought I saw them posted on here somewhere.
I haven't had any issues with my Area 51m, other than the intermittent internet cutting out in the middle of playing Apex Legends. Thanks! -
anyone have any issues with Command Center finding games to add to your library? mine has never done this well. even when i try to add games manually they don't show up as options in the folders or desktop that i point the library search towards.

So what are you guys changing to get MSI afterburner to show the gpu stats?

It's the standard 2x4 dell ram. I believe that's dual channel.
-
@dell Cares gave me my own US-based rep who speaks quality english and wrote a nice, apologetic email to me.
He says my machine is in production and anticipates it arriving on 4/4. I am going to give them one final chance, now that they have a dedicated person supposedly offering me better support. My thinking is that's a fair effort that I appreciate... and if it doesn't make a difference and I see a delay again, well then screw it... nothing is gonna get that thing over here.
Also, seems Hydrocopper 2080 Tis have been out of stock for like two months, so...SlickDragon likes this. -

Does CPU-Z verify that it’s dual channel in the Memory tab? -

We only have 1 person who disassembled and found burnt GPU on underside. About 6 others who only reported burnt smell upon laptop death. About 4 of those had the smell on opposite side of GPU vent. 1 of those had a pic of smoke damage on Tobii. 1 User was not performing any demanding tasks, nor had been.
Making a report about something as specific as:
"GPU heatsink/thermal pads were misplaced/not making contact properly, causing severe overheating issues because the components weren't being properly cooled"
Seems kind of unreliable with the info we have.
I still think the problem is power delivery related, or bad batch of soldering or components. -

That sucks man. Hope they sort it out for you.
Soo, does the 2060 version have side vents?SlickDragon likes this. -
I just want to give possible explanations about why the Area 51M's are dying. So I am looking to for feedback about the cause, etc. Did anyone make a separate thread about their Area 51m dying or are the posts spread through the 600+ pages of the owners lounge? I've only read about 100 pages of the owner's lounge so far. I've found one of the owners so far in this thread.

Do you have the 8GB RAM config as well? -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
No, mine came with 2x8gb sticks in dual channel and I added 2x8 more for 32GB total in dual channel. CPUz is accurate for detecting dual and single channel, has been for many years.

Yeah, I was asking the other person with the 8GB RAM config whether it was single or dual channel, so your reply was a bit strange. -

So in Notebookcheck's review, they mention that their Firestrike graphics score dropped from 27080 all the way to 13326 when switching the fan profile from High Performance to Balanced. Is this accurate? If so, how is the fan sound when in High Performance mode - any high pitched noise?
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
Unfortunately they are scattered in the thread. Try searching the thread for "burn", "burnt" , "Smell" and the like to narrow it downraz8020 likes this. -

The only fan mode that effects performance is "COOL". Every other I score relatively the same in fire-strike. Currently running on "QUIET". Basically the laptop is silent, even in gaming due to the way I have it tuned. Bare in mind I have disabled Alienware OC and use Throttlestop. -
Seems similar to what EVGA had to deal with, a bad batch of mosfets that just blew up for no reason.
-
I will check that out tomorrow.
Nothing wrong with the gpu, timespy scores are on par and uses 100% gpu -
can any one confirm user profiles for fan settings in command center are not working properly?
im trying to set up a smooth line and have them kick in 100% around 80c but its just hitting max fan speed no matter what i doIXVIXXII likes this. -
i checked my install no such folder on my system, tobi experience is a trusted microsoft store app.
hope that helps -
Thanks! Notebookcheck is usually alright but I know they get some details wrong so I thought I'd ask.
-
I already got it fixed with the help of tobii, there response time was insane and very helpfull. It appears i was missing some drivers which should come with windows update but they did not. I manually downloaded them from the dell site and now everything is working perfect

guys any one notice any thing odd when pausing and resuming videos on youtube?
if so please post whats odd, i may be crazy so if anyone wanna try i would appreciate it. -
I was getting the same thing on mine when I had the 9700K installed. It wouldn't go above 4.9 ghz. I didn't have that problem with the i9-9900K. I am guessing the 9700K has a hard cap set in Firmware/bios at 4.9 ghz? I'm not sure. Anyone else?
-
Hmm, going to have to go that route then I guess... sucks that the keyboard disappeared.
-
The weird thing is, when i was using AWCC and set an overlock to 4.9ghz and test it , it would only run at 4.6ghz. When i put the slider to 4.9 ghz it would run at 4.7. When running a benchmark with a 5ghz overclock it would max out at 4.6ghz and then when i was idling in windows it reached 5ghz. No thermal throttle, the temps were very low actually.
Something fishy about overclocking with AWCC for sure. -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
Not here, I’ve been running between 5 and 5.2ghz with no throttling
