I kinda doubt that. The vast majority of people that buy LGA laptops from Clevo seem to just sell old and buy new in place of upgrading anyway. I think people like the idea more than the practice

    Sorry, should have specified!

No other information besides it's being worked on unfortunately.

Yes its 120W. I hope they raise it to at LEAST 150W, though 175W would be optimal!

150w with an OC would put us at about a normal 2080s stock performance , would be an amazing upgrade

Definitely! Though I'm a bit worried they will keep it somewhat gimped compared to the 2080, hopefully I'm wrong though. Time will tell.

I can't comment about numbers outside of the forums, but to me, those members posting in the Clevo sections here on NBR seem to be upgrading their GPUs/CPUs. Then there's the master of upgrades, @Papusan who (I think) has done multiple generation upgrades (at least on CPU).

The problem in this whole upgrade issue isn't a make/model issue. The real problem is the chipset/socket will change and newer CPUs won't work, or the form factor of the GPU will no longer fit the latest and greatest cards. The Area 51m is in the same boat in regards to CPU, and for GPU... Dell (Mr. Frank) has hinted that it may also be an issue in this laptop too.

Just for clarification. Did we get any mentions from the guys at twitter about 2666 ram also about (2080ti mentioned in Linus's video and a 240hz screen) ?

"Asking nicely" usually don't work with many YT content creators. This is why YT provides tools like copyright violation report so you might try using that. It might not work but it is worth trying and I believe it is perfectly fair to report videos like these if they copy the content that you created without your permission and you do not want that.

B.t.w, this is why I only watch channels like "OWNorDisown" and "BOB of All Trades" when it comes to notebook reviews - they don't do these clickbait videos where they feed off the forum drama, they just do reviews.

Publicly? You do know this is a public forum. That screenshot is now part of google images if you know the keywords.

I think you can still edit your post if you wish. But the web cache will keep it.

Out of curiosity, why did you not wish to share it?

You can simply try and ask @GizmoSlip to edit the video. At the very least black out your username. I think this would be a first step before digging into copyright and privacy stuff. But as stated above, it was posted in a public forum, and asking nicely is by no means legally binding. Unfortunately screenshots do not get the same protection as photos yet.

Of course it is not legally binding but it's just, you know, a "common decency" thing, which many YT creators do not care about and instead like to abuse other people's content for personal profit because it takes less effort than coming up with your own original content (such as actual product reviews instead of "let's just show what other people think about that product") ;-)

Most likely the 4th it will show with a new delivery date about a week longer,This is so you do not cancel.

I am in same boat been delayed twice and shows delivered 4-3 but still shows confirmed and not shipped. Unless they knock off another 200.00 I will cancel and wait for other screen options.

I've got a few things I could ask them to upgrade, like my 1tb sata hdd to an ssd, the 16 gb ram (My sig shows 48gb because I was gonna take out the 32gb 2400 ram from my alienware 13r3 and add it) and I guess to a 9900k? I dunno if they would update the dual 256gb m.2 raid 0 config. I'm gonna see if I can't get some concessions tonight if it doesn't ship

problem is you can't upgrade. They make you cancel the entire order and place a new order. It's best to ask for cash back.

I've heard people getting upgrades. I assume the upgrades would be easier for them if it's drop in and doesn't take to long (Like say, the ram). If I can't get it I'll ask for money back

Historically going back and trying to change an order will get it rescheduled at the least, and canceled due to issues with their order QA system down the road.

Canceling / refund to cash and reordering seems to be ok, and has the least paths to disappointment. But, you still lose your scheduled delivery date.

If you do ask, preface it with "I want to make sure I don't lose my place in order queue, and that the change doesn't delay my order delivery - and if it does check how long the delay is before making the change".

I've had it happen to me, they preemptively start implementing my request before the words are finished coming out of my mouth, starting with canceling the order...

I'm not gonna cancel as I have at least a decent discount. And I'm working off the assumption that it will be delayed again if it doesn't ship in the next few hours (And it will).

So true! In addition to the current lineup of laptop manufacturers, I’d like to see others get into the laptop game be it DTR’s or thin and lights. The more available, the better for us consumers.

The first that comes to mind is Corsair. They recently got into pre-built desktops with their One and Vengeance lines which makes me wonder if laptops are a possibility.

Wow! A51m and top of the heap CLEVO DTR within 1% of each other in 3DMark scores! awesome machines, both. Glad to see Alienware bringing the game back.

Hopefully with some additional bios and system updates, ram boost, burned out GPU fixes it will climb up even a little further.

    Good times.

    @Papusan

174w with 5ghz. 5.2ghz hits 210w easily and peaks at 224w. 5.1ghz is possible (~200 max) i hit Thermal Limits without LM.

And finaly i was able to cpuz validate 5.3ghz (~200w). Link later today

Quite a few pages back, someone posted a screenshot of HWinfo on their 51m and it showed the fan speed (RPM) as well as the current wattage the machine is receiving through the PSU's. Can anyone tell me how to enable this? I've checked through all of the settings in HWinfo and have not seen anything of the sort.. Would appreciate some help!

Edit: I don't even have the fan option on the bottom. @captn.ko I looked back and saw that you're the one who posted the screen shot of this, would you mind telling me how to get these options to show?

This is me you're talking about, btw. I try my best to do thorough and honest reviews. I have been a part of this forum for 10+ years. I am not just forum hunting for drama.

The message in question had no username. It was anonymous. So no violation of privacy. Even if there was, it was a publicly posted image. And I am 100% fine using it under fair use law as I am adding to the infomation and educating others.

Now if I can understand a bit more from the user as to why he wants it removed, I would consider taking it down. But what is the big deal? It's quoting Alienware Tech Support directly, which is a perfectly fine and normal thing to do.

Again, there was no username. No privacy violation. No big deal.

Nevertheless, I still think that it is bad style to use the picture if the creator explicitly asked to not do it...
is it too much to ask not to share/use a picture if i ask for it? You argue with Fair Use... it would be fair to respect the wish of the owner in my opinion.

but klickbait is so much better...

Quick question related to Nvme drivers..

So since day 1 i have not been able to get my SX8200 Pro to show up in SSD Toolbox. (Yes, i reinstalled in AHCI.)
After checking it seems it is running off the generic Windows Nvme driver.. It also looks like Adata does not have a specific driver for it, so am i stuck with this driver or can i install something like the Intel generic driver (for better performance as well?) Anyways, i figured this is probably the reason it's not showing up.. That's just a wild guess though, as i'm not too familiar with these things..

@QUICKSORT made the image, permission will need to be given by him to use it. Fair use cannot really apply as one of the 4 rules states the amount of the media that is used and what portion, the whole entire image is used so it does not apply. Either way, even if it does fall under fair use somehow, the person who took it when asked not to is scummy.

Uh... that's not how fair use works.

The reason I included it is because I am trying to relay the facts to people, to inform them of what happening with these expensive laptops, and I would like to use as many facts with provable screenshots as possible.

Also, I don't really view the video as click bait, as it's an actual issue with these laptops and people buying them should know about it ahead of time, which is why I made the video. If I was buying this laptop, I'd want to know about it before hand because I would probably get a longer warranty.

But like I said, if Quicksort can give me a good reason to remove it, I'll remove that section of my video. But him and I should take the discussion to PMs because this owner's lounge isn't the place for discussions of this nature. Let's keep this thread focused on the laptop, etc.

Tough situation, I hope you both can work it out so that the supporting response from Alienware can remain in the video. It helps confirm that Alienware is aware of the situation and what the plan and timing is to resolve it.

I re-read the thread and I see @QUICKSORT was only trying to prove his assertion that his problem was real, as were his comments from AW he relayed back to us.

It's so helpful for real owners to post such information to share with others wanting to order a laptop that is having production issues, the straight real info is needed so people know how to proceed.

If you need to prove something like this in the future, or if anyone else is in this situation, simply DM the image to a mod to verify privately and ask the mod to post his / her confirmation to the thread, and then ask them to delete the DM thread and image.

Sharing image's on a public site - or with anyone in a public forum - in this day and age is going to get it all over the world in seconds.

As far as @GizmoSlip using the image, it's clear he should have asked you first before going against your wishes. Water under the bridge now, lesson learned by both of you, I hope.

Something to keep in mind is that the Dell Support person that wrote that info can't take punitive action against you for publishing the information, you weren't under non-disclosure that I can see, were you? There shouldn't be any restriction on sharing that exchange.

I've talked through several people in the past that didn't want to share info that they thought might bounce back on them from the vendor, but the vendor is really there to help resolve the situation and it's helping them get the word out about fixes and timing thereof.

Thanks to both of you for your efforts in sharing and getting the word out, and I hope you both continue doing so here in the thread, and on NBR.

So I think I remember seeing something back about 300+ pages ago on this thread about someone who made a custom holder for the 330w and 180w power supplies? Would love to have mine condensed down into one solid piece if possible. If anyone has something like that, or can direct me where to go to get one that would be awesome. Thanks!

The damage is done, So you don't have to take it down, I appreciate at least you trying to keep it as discrete as possible. I see it as my bad for sharing it online, I mean what was I expecting.
About the reason, I worked in helpdesk before and I am now working in a company where there are helpdesk workers. The friendlier you are to them, the better they help, whenever one of my colleagues see one of our customers complain on social media, they detest such behavior and help them with less interest causing that client in essence to get worse helpdesk service.

Even though it might not be true, I didn't want them to get the idea, that I am ranting online about their "bad service", as it's not the case, they try to be very helpful, and this simply happens to be a case where they are not able to do much as they simply messed up.
But like I said, damage is done, I hope Dell won't see it like I am fearing it. As I still am a little suspicious of the fact that I am one of the only persons that got told this. So was this disclosed info that I shouldn't have known? I don't know.

At least, I was able to help other people with this message, to give them better understanding.

And by the way, I actually liked your video, and think you went a little overkill with your Area 51M :p

I just got an email saying my Area-51m has shipped. 9700k/2080 configuration in Lunar Light ordered on 3/22. Original projected delivery date is 5/2. That was a lot quicker than I expected.

An easier way than the method I found to work earlier is to let the update download. Then when given the option, EXTRACT the file to a folder. Close out AWCC. Then run the .exe file from the folder you extracted to.

    Man

DELL customer service is the most incompetent. I tried to order off the website but they said there was something wrong with my address. Then I called to order which took 30mins, gave my cc details which were all verified and then I get an email from another department saying my order needs to be verified. In the end I cancelled. I have an AORUS X9 DT which lags around 10fps but doesn't need TWO power bricks.

This is news that gets my hopes really high, also seen a handful of people post this on reddit. Hope mine gets updated soon too.
I am still bummed about having to wait until 29/04.

Whatever, I ordered a Lunar light 9700/2070 on March 17th. I've received 2 delays and no info. on what part is missing or having an issue. Just updates the day its supposed to ship that another delay has occurred.

Frank Azor that I tweeted asked for my order# via DM 3 days ago, still has not replied.

Just got another delay today (supposed to ship out yesterday) stating it is pushed back to April 11th now. Just like another user mentioned, I feel as if they just keep these placeholder dates about a week and half out to keep you tethered. In the end, I will be most likely canceling this order. Too much money for terrible customer service, I don't want to imagine dealing with them if something on the unit is faulty. Congratulations on your unit being shipped, enjoy it!

I would have already had my system 3 weeks ago, if the distributor hadn't decided to make every single one of the initial batch of 20 with the Black finish :(
