Tried reinstalling via geforce but it didnt show up, also tried everything else.
Going to try drivers from nvidia website but I'm confused. It says windows driver type and the option is DCH or Standard. Not sure which one to choose. Any idea?
Edit: Doing DHC, let's hope this works. Gahh
Edit: Still no Nvidia Control Panel... Looks like I might have to do another reinstall because idk wtf is going on.. Have never had this issue.
EDIT: Reinstall did nothing, still no nvidia control panel and windows store still not downloading stuff. Wtfffffff

Guys I have run into some problems and need help.
I have the rtx 2070 9700k with the 144hz gsync tobii monitor.
1. My screen goes dim within 10 sec if I am not literally IN FRONT of my camera/computer screen. I have tried to fix this via power options display settings etc. I have no option for "adaptive display brightness" even though google searching shows that is a thing for windows 10 laptops. Weird that I do not have it.
I am on high performance battery option with brightness 100% when plugged in and when on battery. The screen will still go dim.
2. I cannot get through any benchmarks without going to a black screen and no sound. I will start Timespy and Firestrike and after about halfway through the intro sample video, my screen goes black and sound stops. I have to hard shut down via alien head to get back to windows.
Not sure what that is. Sucks I cant even see what this thing can bench.
Edit**** FROM PHONE, my keyboard is no longer working after I got a USB malfunctioned error when my plugged in mouse disappeared. Wow
Not a good first day. -

1) That's Tobii, just turn it off in the Tobii Experience App.
2) Not quite sure what's going on there, I'm sure someone else can help you.propeldragon likes this. -
Found tobii experience app. Do I uninstall it? No option to "turn off". I dont even have a tobii account or profile yet because I go to create one and it says "these are your eyes"...just a black box then it kicks me back out to create profile tab.
I think I got a lemon. -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Hmm try downloading the Tobii drivers from the area 51m drivers page that Ultra posted. -
Sounds like your integrated Intel GPU is taking back control from the nVidia GPU back and forth. This could have something to do with the power settings that dictate when the integrated GPU should kick in. Try to disable integrated graphics from BIOS to completely switch over to nVidia. And regarding keyboard, that's how it will do on most laptops that have internal keyboard connection going through the USB. Seems like your drivers are choppy. Did you upgrade all drivers from Dell's website? Or are you still running on Windows pre-historic versions?
-
LOL! Dude, take a deep breath and download RTX 2080 drivers form nVidia. Uninstall and delete all windows default graphics drivers and do a clean install from scratch.VoodooChild likes this.
-
I did all my windows updates from the settings in windows and got all my drivers from the AW CC that was linked to my 51m.
Was able to get tobii working finally, disabled it and now my screen doesnt go dim after 5 sec. Fixed that one.
Now for the keyboard and display going black.
The display even went black with no sound on the Dell video stress test lol. Temps were 55C -
Where did you buy your laptop from? Directly from Dell? I have a strong feeling that Microsoft drivers are effing things up for you here. Are there any device conflicts in the device manager? Do you see any red exclamation marks in Windows System Event Logs? Check in Event Viewer.
-
Bought directly from Dell.
Not that I know of!
Just basic windows update stuff and the drivers from AW CC support assist.
I updated the Windows stuff on other laptops without having any of these issues.
There are 2 yellow exclamation marks on my USB ports. Unknown USB device (1 is my mouse, not sure about the other). -
Microsoft windows update can be such a wrecking ball for new laptops. It takes them a good month or two to stop slouching and sorting out driver conflicts. If I were in your place, I'd uninstall all drivers that are Dell specific, uninstall all windows update patches that are related to those drivers, and disable them from installing in the future via windows updates. After that, I'd re-install Dell drivers. Which version of Windows are you running? I hope it's not an S or N version. There are usually less problems on full fat pro version that you download form MS website. The versions provided by manufacturers are a tad older and sometimes get different OS updates than normal.c69k likes this.

To start with when I turned on my computer for the very first time, it said it couldn't detect windows activation. I thought this was weird.
Once it did finally activate my windows, it had like 30 different things to update and install. I didnt bother to look bc I figured this is just how it is now days.
I do not know if the screen going black and sound going away in benchmark demos has anything to do with it since I never tried running them until I had installed all my updates.
I do not have good internet where I am to do a reset and reinstall everything. Dell support said I need a motherboard and graphics card replaced.
This is a 12 hr old laptop lol. -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
LOL. I finally got it working!
Did another reinstall with the normal Windows image, not the Dell and it worked fine. Thankfully Windows Store is working again as well, I was able to download Nvidia Control Panel from it.
Now that I have everything downloaded I can run some benches on my new machine and monitor temps!
I hope I can hit -0.100 UV or higher on this 9700k. Anything over -0.085 on my last machine would cause crashing.S.K likes this. -
This is potentially a wrong diagnosis. You should perform a clean install using Windows iso that you download from MS website, not the DELL provided one. Here is another evidence right above my message for what I initially told you. http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...m-owners-lounge.826831/page-732#post-10894799

Did some quick benches on my replacement machine (after spending hours trying to get windows to work correctly) and WOW!

-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Yeah, this is a huge improvement from my first machine.
I had one Whea BSOD during the few benches but I think it was due to the UV being too high.
Can't wait for the TDP update for the 2070 so we can really see what this puppy can do. -
so how low did your 9700k UV go?
-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
I didn't test it much, it did -0.080 @ 5Ghz so I'm pretty sure it will do atleast -0.100.
Temps seemed extremely good during the firestrik tests as well. At 5.1Ghz with a -0.050 UV it didn't even reach 80C. I know it's a short test and all, and not really a stress test, but my old machine instantly throttled at 5.1Ghz on FS.SlickDragon likes this. -

Just when I thought things were going great... Everytime I launch a game, about 30 seconds later my screen basically shuts off, no backlight or anything...
Putting it into sleep doesn't make it turn back on, but when I turn the machine off and back on it works like it should..
Anyone know what could be causing this? Nvidia drivers possibly?
Edit: It happens within 5-10 minutes after being on, doesnt matter what I'm doing.
Ahhhhhh, I hope this is software related. In any case, I guess I could pull parts from my first machine since I haven't sent it back yet.Last edited: Apr 11, 2019 -
Anyone have any comments on heat/noise on the 8700/2060 model? What kind of temps are you seeing? Have these models blown up?

Disable windows quick boot (or quick start,... something like that in hidden settings beside hibernation settings)SacraficeMyGoat likes this.

Fast start up? Alright I just turned it off. Let's see what happens..S.K likes this. -
Windows sleep is always choppy with new GPUs. Fast boot is the culprit as it's not properly upgraded by MS for new hardware. They only support it with integrated intel gpus nicely. Some internal Microsoft-intel romance story may be.Papusan, c69k and SacraficeMyGoat like this.

SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
That makes the panel turn completely off? Mine literally has no backlight at all. -
It's a mess. You're better off using hibernation instead of sleep.
-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
I dont use either, haven't used sleep or hibernate since I owned an HP laptop like 10 years ago. I always just shut my laptop down when I'm done with it.
Takes less than 10 seconds to boot, dont really see the point in hibernating with an ssd lol.
I hope this fixes the issue but I have a feeling it won't. I'm not that lucky haha.raz8020 and pathfindercod like this. -
Nah it will. Fast boot always creates random troubles when starting up as it tries to boot from a memory dumped image from the disk and it somehow always messes it up which results in user having to force shutdown the system by power button long press and then it boots fine. I've seen it happen long enough. Particularly with Nvidia gpus.SacraficeMyGoat likes this.

OMG!! this is my replacement machine because overheating I received two weeks ago!
i9 9900k and 2080
and now trying to solve it! and just receive a message say that the machine is working as it should be!!!! and if I turn on the overclock and leave rendering a 3d scene for more than 3..4 hours the machine turns off even on overclock profile 1... but withouth overclock the clock speed of the CPU cant keep higher than 4.0ghz and as you can see the CPU package is 101c all the time!!!!
is it normal? 0.0 -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Yikes, that's no bueno. Either ask for another replacement/heatsink, or dive into it yourself and repaste and see if it helps.jclausius likes this. -
I know right!!! they offer to change the heatsink but I am not sure if it will actually resolve the problem from 101c to 90c at least, also I think the GPU gets quite hot as if I try to render on the GPU for longtime the machine turns off on the overclock profile 1... just not happy to have to open a brand new machine. but lets see if after change it resolve the problem. I will wait for them to see but if there are anything happening inside dell to solve this prlbem I guess another replacmeent machine would be more suitable.
-
Dude you've bought a desktop replacement. Use it like a desktop. Delid that bad boy chip and go liquid metal. Dell's factory paste job is horrendous for some God forsaken reason.zdroj likes this.

SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Yup... panel is still turning off. Knew it wouldn't be that easy. -
Why are you expecting panel to stay on even when the computer is powered off?
-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
What? The panel is turning off when the computer is on.. lol. Lights and everything still on, the panel shuts off when I start a game or just idle.S.K likes this. -
By the way, you also have to disable quick boot from bios. They work in combination.
-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
I think you're a bit confused on the issue I'm having lol. -
That's weird.
-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Yeah it completely turns off. Going to reinstall the graphics driver in hopes it's a software bug. My luck it's probably a broken gpu. -
Sounds like a driver issue to me. Gpu doesn't break this way. May be downgrade to 190w bios for now.
-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
I have a 2070 so I'm not on that BIOS update.
I hope it's a driver issue... its just odd that it worked fine for literally 12 or so hours, then all of the sudden it started acting up. Guess similar things have happened to alot of people though.S.K likes this. -
This is why I prefer buying through third party resellers. They test things out before sending over the unit.
-
That's it ! My laptop is now in the hands of UPS en route to Dell's workshop... felt something like that :
Strange... i thought that RTX 2080 were the only cards with problems here...
If i were you i'd boot on a Linux USB Ubuntu and try launching a game or something fullscreen to see if that's a drivers/windows issue... -
_deadbydawn_ Notebook Evangelist
did anyone even try the downgrade to the 190w vbios after updating to the 200w one? -
I found something interesting.
https://hardforum.com/threads/scree...t-times-on-rtx-2080-is-my-card-dying.1972639/
Other people are observing same issues with rtx 2080 founders edition card. So this definitely seems like a flaky driver issue on behalf of either nVidia or Windows 10. -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Apparently not! As much as I hope its just a driver issue, I'm pretty sure it's not. I'll be reinstalling windows again tomorrow to rule it out. Not familiar with Linux, but a reinstall should let me know if its software or hardware related.
I hope it isn't the GPU, this one happens to overclock very well so far.. Just my luck though. -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Hmm, possibly. Mine doesnt just flicker off and back on though. I have to hard reset it for it to come back on.
I've tried closing the lid and opening it, but the only way to get it to come back on is to hard reset. -
