It has been already answered (by ssj92 if I remember well):
Fan performance mode: sets the fans to 100% load full time
CPU performance mode: will try to keep turbo speed constantly and allows you to select OC levels in BIOS

Do not worry about it poofing, if it has to poof its better now than later.
Between i just checked and your run was at 5.2Ghz.
Maybe try 185/1500 or you might have a golden sample that goes up to 200/1500
As for cpu have you tried 5.3?c69k likes this. -

I’ll do a run now at 5.3ghz, but I’m sure it’s going to hit 100c and throttle. These chips have so much concentrated heat that it doesn’t give the copper enough time to absorb and move the heat. I’ll also try higher GPU clocks right now and report back soon

Ah I see, so CPU Performance mode should always be enabled if I go overclocking with ThrottleStop or XTU? -
The funny thing is that the left usb is connected to my coolermaster pad with fans. When i turn the laptop off it shuts down. But when i plug it in while the laptop is off the fans start spinning.
-
No, it's only needed if you just want to OC from BIOS without using any app. You can do the same with TS or XTU, no need to activate that setting in BIOS. From my understanding, that BIOS setting could be useful if you want to OC in Linux and you don't have the proper application for doing so in that OSLast edited: Apr 14, 2019SpentaTONofMoolah4k likes this.

Here’s my highest run I could achieve, with the 190w vbios and system bios 1.3.2. Nvidia boost clocks max out at 2100 on the core and won’t go above that.
CPU 5.2ghz
GPU +185/+1325

Hey man, sorry to hear your issues. It sounds surprisingly close to my issues with the black screen/dead 2080. What did Dell decide to do for you? I'm waiting on a replacement GPU to get to me in the mail right now. Hopefully changing it out will fix the problem. I really hope it was just the GPU. -
I'm guessing 5.3 wasn't stable?
I tried upto 1.47V with mine and i couldn't finish a run with 5.3.
As for GPU anything over +185 will crash? Have you tried +185/+1500?
You should be able to reach the 30K + graphic score with +185/+1500
Updating the Vbios to 200W shouldn't change a damn thing, at least it dint change anything on my unit. -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
I couldn’t get it to 5.3ghz and my GPU won’t go any higher. I’ll try a higher memory clock soon

ive got the 9700k/2080 32gb ram when started using it playing assassin's creed origins cpu temps were stable at 80c but after 3 weeks of use temps after 10 mins sit at 100c all clocks are factory settings no oc done any suggestions
-
What fan profile are you using?
Are you undervolting?
If not i would suggest using something along those lines.
1. Performance mode fans.
2. Set an undervolt like this
These should improve your thermal by quite a bit. -
Go for 5.2 with +185/+1500
I'm sure you can 24,800 ish and beat the 30k graphic score mark
-
fan profile is set to high performance and no undervolt mate
-
Try the overclocking / undervolting with the setting i just posted and lmk temps after.
-
He said temp have "increased after 3 weeks use". Maybe he rather should try find the culprit first? Etc maybe the thermal paste pump out due bad heatsink fits?

Then why is his score higher?
-
Tbh i doubt he had stable 70C with factory settings/paste.
70C seems more like a good after undervolting temperature -

From what I saw someone say when I asked this question is that Performance Mode will try to keep the CPU at max clocks at all times; not ideal for daily usage but may be good for benchmarking. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Yeah disabling Power Share fixed the problem and no I'm not undervolted. All Stock -
only things ive changed since having it is update the bios to 1.32 and vbios to 200w
-
80C stock with the terrible stock voltage and such a badly coded game like AC origins sounds almost impossible to me, 90-95C would be more right.
Try the undervolt and lmk result -
He said stable at 80c later 100C
Regardles, he see a change now up to 100C.
-
Regardless i doubt he had 80C stable with stock settings, people are getting 70C with the 9700k on their desktop with AIO running AC origins.
I would expect someone to hit 80C with a very good thermal job and GG undervolting on the area-51m in this game, not out of the box with the terrible stock voltage.
I'm guessing he either miss read the temperature or he was at a place in the game where the rendering was much less demanding or something along those lines.SlickDragon and raz8020 like this. -
Beacuse the higher oc'd graphics score drag up the total score
But Your physics score is still higher due HT. 3DM Fire Strike contain 3 tests. Graphics, physics and combined tests.

I’ve read the last 15-20 pages and know it’s been asked a couple times but I still don’t see an answer: How do I ensure I’m rocking 200w to the 2080?
-
Run benchmarks or compare vBios version in screenshots.
-
yeah it was in a non action very low demanding part of game mate did forget to mention that but in same part now its hitting 100c should have made that clearSlickDragon likes this.

Undervolt and report result.
-
So he shouldn't worry about what led to the change?
Oh'well, not the way I fix problems.

That's because you believe he had those temps before, i dont.SlickDragon likes this.

Whew buddy! Feeling good after tinkering this evening. To be clear, I don't trust OC stability or temps without putting a solid hour+ into a game without a break; so from that perspective, a lot more to do.
But I at least got a pretty good Firestrike score out of my machine that I'm real happy with in correlation with temps: 24,447 with temps on both CPU and GPU never topping 75c.
5Ghz on all 8 cores / +130 + 150 on the GPU. -130 offset on CPU. Performance fans. Stock paste/no de-lid.
I honestly think there's still some pretty good headroom if I'm okay letting temps get quite a bit higher; but this is looking like a real good place to just run it all the time.
SlickDragon and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Those are very good temps for no undervolt and stock dell paste. You should do a -100mV undervolt and your temps will be amazing.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.

Those are great looking settings.
I would personally bump the GPU to +150/+200, this is what i use for everyday usage and it's working very nicely. -

They're sending a tech hopefully tomorrow to replace the GPU, but they haven't called or anything so that might not happen.
Lucky, I asked them to just send me the GPU so i could swap it myself but they declined, even though they told me i could swap the GPU from my old machine into my new one. Which I did and it's now working fine, but I'd still like a new part.
So I'll be taking the machine apart before the tech gets here and I'll be watching him while he puts it back together, unless he doesnt mind letting me put it together.. I hate these guys, I've had terrible luck with them and dont trust them AT ALL.
If they try to send the tech that I absolutely hate and have told to leave before, I'll either tell him to leave again, or let me put the GPU in, simple as that. Sounds like a dick move but this guy broke my old 17 R5 on 3 occasions, stripped heatsink screws, wrecked my USB port, among other things.
They said they would be sending a "senior" tech out because of my past experiences, but we'll see. I hope they surprise me tomorrow and bring the GPU.
Edit: Hopefully yours is just the GPU as well, goodluck. I was getting driver errors in event viewer which made me suspect a driver issue, but I swapped my OS drive into the old machine and it worked fine, which told me it was most likely the GPU. So to be sure I swapped them and lo and behold it worked.Last edited: Apr 14, 2019 -
I'm unstable at anything higher, it seems... but I think I have room to bump up the voltage on the GPU. Unfortunately, with Afterburner even if I go to settings and select to unlock the power/voltage, and restart, I still cannot. Any ideas? -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
You have to replace the code in a specific file to unlock voltage.
Google how to unlock voltage control in MSI Afterburner. Should be the first or second link.SlickDragon, SpentaTONofMoolah4k and c69k like this. -

Guys, anybody who ordered from Xotic got any updates over their system? I've placed an order with them but its stuck in "Phase 1" for a week and ETA shows "End of April". How is your order status?
I was in touch with Donald from HID and he helped me a lot of pick up the right system and I feel guilty not ordering from them. But, Xotic was $500 cheaper for a higher spec'd system and I couldn't say no to that. Now, I think it's bad karma biting back. Looks like it will be mid May before I get my laptop.
Also, which Windows power profile you guys use for Benching and Gaming? I've been using "Ultimate Power Mode" on my M17xR3 for 6 months and haven't seen any benefit from it. Is "Balanced" windows profile the same? What does it do?

I think some systems just dont support it natively, including the 51m. Could be wrong, but that's my best guess. I wish there were a way to unlock the power settings. -

Looking at the failure rates of these systems, I won't be surprised if Azor and his band of goons look us out even further with more BIOS updates in the future.

Damn I'm getting so anxious waiting for any update from the UPS tracking website as it says "Package on its way to UPS" for 8 days now.
I know that it can take 8-10 business days. But since my previous laptop arrived in 7 days. and since I cannot see anything and don't know anything about the whereabouts of the laptop. I'm getting more and more anxious by the day. Damn cannot even properly focus at work lol.
been exactly 1 month now since my laptop died. pffff...SlickDragon, propeldragon, Vasudev and 4 others like this. -
Hold strong dude! I am also waiting and I'm bored of checking videos about it. I just want her curves in my arms, lol.
In the meantime, I'm looking at this external monitor: https://theprinciplematter.com/pm27uhr-1
To run properly it needs 2x HDMI or 2x DP. Do you think it would work with the A51m? -
this is with the settings you suggested mate and fan profile full speedAttached Files:

There hasn't been anything official from Dell or Alienware as far as I'm aware.
A few people have had the customer support teams either on social media chat or via the phone state that any issues were dealt with but nothing has been shared direct from Dell etc. via official channels, at least that I'm aware of.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.
