Fast boot is like almost like a hibernate mode... I like clean caches and swap files, plus I feel like certain manufacturer backed windows update drivers that happen automatically prefer a full reboot vs mini hibernate. I think it also minimizes memory leaks. If you have SSD there is really no reason to keep fast boot active IMHO.

I decided to go ahead and upgrade to Windows 10 Pro from Home because I had a key lying around from a couple of years ago, but I'm wondering if since my windows license is attached to my Microsoft account, if in the future, say I get a new machine, if I'll be able to transfer windows 10 Pro to it?

Also, my Pro license says Windows 10 RTM Professional key. Is this just a normal retail W10 Pro key?

If Windows has to initialize a second drive it will slow the boot process especially if it's mechanical.

We waiting on your brother @Rocktaze! lets go! :) @Prema couldn't be bothered with waiting to break 31K gpu :D So he did it first. I had to follow. Now it's your turn bro!

Humm, try without undervolt. set it to like 185/1200 and see what you come back with. This is just to see what you get.

At about 1am in the morning

My 30,306 was done with +180/+1500
Anything higher than +180 will insta crash.

Even +185/+0 won't let me finish a Firestrike

That means 180 is = 2100Mhz. This number varies per machine...

That's why you can't go higher.

It's sort of SLI. More of a software hybrid situation because the cards do not have nvlink sli connecters

    edit:
To find us just set max for like 27300

I’m assuming my 9700k at 5.2ghz won’t let me get a higher graphics score than my current highest score of 30,005? I’ve tried everything and can’t get higher than this, not even close to 31k

Getting the laptop cold beforehand will help the score? Even if you don't get high temps during benchmarks?

We are not talking about running benchmarks as a standard setup. One needs to get creative with what one has at their disposal. This is only when you are going for your max score. After that you can go back to normal benching or gaming setups. You can't expect to ever break records talking about benching in a 98F room, with fans on auto setting on an already hot desk with the whole chassis generating heat. One needs to have vrms and mosfets cooled along with gpu core and memory. Just ask @Papusan He has been known to run a bench or two outside when the temps are right. :)

I know I shouldn't be frustrated... but I am... it's silly, but only cause this is the very.first.time. I'm trying to modify the 51 and it should be brain-dead easy. I've upgraded RAM probably 300 times. Am I just naively looking over something... any reason this RAM wouldn't be compatible?

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233988

I flipped out my stock 2x8GB for the 4x16GB corsair kit and it wouldn't boot. I then tried one stick. Wouldn't book. Flipped in an original 8gb. Booted fine. Tried all four sticks one at a time... wouldn't boot. Tried 2x 16gb. Wouldn't boot. Put the original 2x8gb back in... booted just fine.

    ARG!

Try one stick at a time, power on, shut off, add another stick, til all sticks are in.

    9900k - 2080 - 32gb ram - 2tb raid 0 - w/ g sync
This is my second unit. On the first day my first one shorted, flames came out under the Tobii deal and it was gone. Had some screen issues that day too.
This second one, I just got yesterday, updated the BIOs and such via the Alienware update software. Having lots of issues with the screen just turning off and being unresponsive randomly. Have to do a hard shut down to restart. Is this a common issue with the current drivers or are these just complete POS?

They didn't restart my 30 day return policy while I had to wait two weeks for my second unit, so now I have very little time to decide if this is a pile of crap or not. Really hate Dell....

EDIT: to be clear, I've not opened it or installed anything myself other than the Alienware updates and some games off steam / Uplay.

Already tried that. Literally not one of the four sticks individually would boot in RAM SLOT 1. As soon as I try one of the stock sticks, it boots with no issue. Hmmm....

If it is at regular intervals, it may be another of the Windows 10 sleep bugs. Turn off sleep and the display turn off in power management.

Thanks, it seems random, not regular....but I turned them off anyhow. We'll see if it keeps up over the next couple days. Was hoping this was common, as its happened on both the unit I received so far.

So this is exactly what happened when my 2070 died.

Screen would turn completely off (no backlight) randomly, more so when starting a game, and the only way to get it back on was a hard reset.

When I checked event viewer it showed a driver issue, so I tried MULTIPLE things, used DDU to remove the driver and reinstall, reinstalled old drivers, turned sleep settings off, fast start up off, etc. etc.

Unfortunately it sounds like a dud GPU.. I would call tonight or tomorrow and let them know you want a replacement GPU sent out, if you can do it yourself, that would be better, if not have a tech come out.

I swapped mine out and the issue hasn't happened since. I'm 99.9% sure this is the same issue I encountered.

It's the first time I'm ever trying to undervolt. I didn't do anything to my previous laptop.
After seeing the results were underwhelming, I immediately restored the settings to default and like you said I am not going to touch anything anymore.
And the VRM on the GPU getting too hot and burning isn't something I could have invoked, and there is a power limit on the GPU.

And what do you mean with "I can clearly see now"? Because I tried undervolting just to have less heat after what happened to my laptop, which should in contrary be better for the system. Yeah sure perhaps causing instability at some point, but not burn your damn machine.

How could it be a first batch unit if I waited a whole month for it?

Wonder if they fixed the burning issue with mine?

Same for me...I am supposed to receive mine repaired from Dell's Workshop in Germany on Apr, 24th (that i don't trust because they're still on analysis with my unit) and i still don't know if i'm about to receive a unit with burning components...

Very bad public communication from Dell...

Yay my dell return box just came, so now I can send it in for the second time and wait. Lol my return time will be over in a few days and dell has had my laptop for more days than I have. They should definitely restart the return policy time limit, when it needs to be sent in to be fixed the first day you receive it. Anyways wish me luck with getting it back in a timely manner as well as this being the last time I need to return it. I really really just want it to work right and we’ll, is that so much to ask?

We would already be looking at 32K if NVIDIA would not have silently introduced "clock-block 3.0" for all Notebook RTX by limiting us to 2100Mhz...pretty funny to even call it overclocking if everyone is forced to run the same clocks.

Did you decide to return it due to blb or keep it? It’s temps are pretty good i suppose. My 4th unit has the same blb as well but very good temps. Im just exhausted keep returning it I think i will keep it because the next one possibly would have the same blb or im just one of the unlucky guy.

Anyone know if there is a way to push the display backlight beyond the 300nit brightness? I’m so used to my older Alienware’s 400nit display. Also yes, I want to go blind

Finally figured it out. Had an epiphany last night that Dell is probably using way, way worse motherboards than what I would have/usually buy for a custom build, and I remembered back in the day a MoBo taking a couple minutes to recognize a memory change.

So tried again this morning, and that was it. Did one stick at a time, and each change it took the PC at boot a solid two full minutes to splash screen and then alert me of a change in memory. So, patience was key.

    Rocking 64GB now!

Next up is replacing the SSDs. I got some third-party heatsinks that should work fine... but I forgot I need a screw. Can someone remind me what size screw is needed for the NVME m.2 drives? I'm gonna try to find one local instead of waiting a few days for shipping.

Will try to post a vid swapping out the ssd's and adding RAM to the unit soon.

I will be keeping this unit as i think the tradeoff for the temps is worth it.
