I'm happy with mine. I have mine running @ 4.7 GHz all cores, and if I undervolt (-0.155V) I have decent temperatures (around 80C max under load). If I don't, it'll throttle and go up to 99-100C.
I've had it for three weeks now, played some Division 2 and some other games, and like the performance it gives.

It's the 9900K + RTX2080 + 144 Hz screen (no gsync), latest bios and 200 Watt VBios installed. I like it a lot so far. I've tried and returned an m15 and 17R5 before, but the temperatures on those were abysmal.

Thanks for the input. Nice to know. We need more success stories here, the burn out issues have got me doubting my decision as HID builds my system as we speak. I need a desktop replacement and there is no other product I like other than this one so I'm out of options too. HID gives a 2 year premium warranty and I plan to upgrade it to 4 years and rest easy.
Will post my first hand experience as and when I get the system.

Its all good man. As like any other forum most of the time forums are where people land having problems. There are several people without problems and some with. AW will get it sorted if there are any. Their warranty and support generally is great especially getting repairs/replacements.

My aw17 with 980m fried, was fixed 2 days later. My AW18 with sli 780m's went up in smoke with sparks and burning smell. Had to send that one in, had it back 4-5 days later. I suggest use it like you stole it the first 2-3 weeks.

I’ve had no issues with mine either and have sunk many hours into gaming and benchmarking, all with very high overclocks. Finding the max undervolt for the CPU is a must on any unit

This is my mindset as well. Dell warranty has been great for me over the years. I just hope we get to the bottom of this burning issue as soon as possible.

    Now aiming for 27K...

@Rocktaze my system hasn't burned and smoked yet. Granted I've repasted it (Kyronaut) and with new pads, but still... if any system is burning it should be mine with how hard I'm driving it... It has been perfect with zero issues. I game on it with the GPU OC'ed too...

It's not a lottery. When in use (gpu) for example when doing a benchmark it switches to x8 cause you're using the full pcie bandwidth. @Vasudev his observations are correct.

Grats in the 31K club, wish i had a 9900k to bench with.
I'm pretty sure 27,000 is doable with this machine under the right circumstances.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hi,

I was wondering: Has anyone tested the M51 with external GPU? I have several 2080 RTX and several 1080 TI card and a Pascal Titan card laying around.
I am considering swapping my current model with full 2080 to a 2060, but with a larger CPU, and with an external dock.

    Has anyone tested that?

Here are some of my experiences with my current 2080 model:

    2080 RTX
    9700K

    Ran well for two weeks.

    Then could not boot.

    Now at repair: Motherboard issue.

Didnt use it for anything in particular, I was exporting out an android app from Unreal (so it pushes CPU max- but only for 5 minutes).

    Died.

    Yes.

I am considering just getting money back and go for the MSI raider for 2400. Save the money and wait for a laptop. I got plenty of power house stationary computers, but no laptop. Need one for work (I run a VR studio)

    Anyone with good M51 experiences?

Bummer, I was reading both the GE75 Raider lounge and this thread and hesitating a lot between the two.....raw power of the 9900K is tempting (have a 'golden' one in my PC running 5.2GHz at 1.225V w. 2080Ti LightingZ) but I don't want to repair it every month.
The GE75 Raider w. 2080 seems to be running strong when reading their topic.

Good idea to read their forum.

    Any other laptop recommendation?

I feel I would rather save some cost and not go for the bigger MSI Titan. Then I would rather wait till next generation laptops. Why settle for second best at that price range (m51 being the better), and the 1500 between the titan and Raider not big enough a jump (for me).

Does anyone know what the most common issue is? Mine is the motherboard.

Is that the common issue? - So if they change it, I shouldbe good to go? - I really cannot rely on a brand when using for work, that requires often repairs. Not a viable option for professional use.

Dell is mostly very reliable. This is a first but let's be fair, this is a brand new design and only for bleeding edge guys. Gradually problems should be ironed out, or at least that's what I hope based on their track record.

It is not really and RND price tag - it is a premium price tag, on every component. If it was not, I would agree.

    But it is.

But: I did go into my purchase knowing it might happen.

Reality is I might need to return because it is used for production, demo and travel. I run a VR studio and we do environmental themed projects where I travel alot.

I was hoping to spend a year travelling and making projects/assets without having to return to the studio all the time - with this laptop.

So might get the raider and just load my renders off online to my stationary render station.

But giving support a few days to get back to me.

The laptop itself has a cool design, and it has incredible cooling.

So giving it a few days :)

    Anyway:

Has anyone posted about using external GPU with the M51? I wonder.

I use a AGA with a Titan RTX on my AW 13r3. Have not had time to use it on the 51m yet. I am currently traveling for the last few days for work and will not be stationary for a while longer. Ill start playing more with the 51m on that level soon.

I still love my unit. I don’t get why people say that undervolt is a must for temps. When playing division 2 for hours the gpu does not exceed 75 degrees and neither does my 9700k. I have the 2080. I do use a coolermaster cooling pad but that should not make that much of a difference.

13R3 owner here too. And exactly the reason I'm watching this thread but haven't bit the bullet yet (+ waiting on 4k screen option). With AGA + 2080 Ti the 13R3 still does the job very well. However I would love to see some AGA benchmarks with the 51m.

Bloody hell! I saw your happy post and gaming experience. Its worth checking which BIOS and microcode it was, because few Intel spoiler exploit ucode ( I tested only skylake 6700Hq with CC ucode) bricked my laptop and I had kept a copy of ROM I dumped using SPI flash and simply flashing it back and CLRp1 shorting made my PC boot again. Its worth checking that as well for more data points as to what causes these failures suddenly!

Might be an issue with CMOS reset or if you cleaned up Notification tray history using CCleaner/Wise disk cleaner/System Ninja/Bleachbit/Glary.
