Thanks a lot for the fast replyWould be grateful for a comparison between both panels, especially regarding the Black-tone (if it is deep or kind of "grey"). How about screen bleeding, is this a problem at this laptop?

If you read the post I wrote previously, you will know how bad is dell’s customer care service. I will stick with metabox now as they are Australia local retailer with rebranding clevo products.their customer service are much better and reliable than dell as my last laptop is meta box p650 . It got thermal issue but the technical can fixed it and returned to me in around a week. Especially , they won’t lie to you .
-
Yes, I'm sorry about dell as much as hid!

I was in the same boat as you, wanted 144hz but would prefer the AUO over the LG Philips due to the black level/contrast ratio. In the end I just bit the bullet and ordered, another guy on here said the LG looked better to him than the AUO, probably due to different color and saturation level, but facts are facts regarding the black level. From what I gather screen bleed isn't an issue with this laptop, it's better than most in that regard.VoodooChild, Latostno and kacki_larlie like this.

End of the day all the 144hz for laptops are comparable, manufacturers still haven't figured out how to obtain high color gamut in conjunction with high refresh rates.

No problem. If I remember, I'll definitely compare them side by side and runs some synthetic panel/picture tests.
Little bit of bleed but not noticeable when the using it, only if the screen is black.VoodooChild and kacki_larlie like this. -
I don't know whether to laugh or to be angry but I have just resolved the PCIe link degradation error by simply swapping the two bloody DGFF ribbon connectors!!! I have called Dell and told them that I don't need a replacement motherboard and I just need the connectors. I sent them over the part number and pictures. Apparently both the connectors are exactly identical and have the same part number. Just by swapping them I solved this problem, which suggests that one of the connections in one of them is not good and I will be baby-ing my GPU until the time I get a replacement connector set from Dell. What an epic annoyance!
-
Yes he came but told me that he learned so many things from me that were never taught to him lol and just took a side seat while I did the job. He helped with the job though.seanwee likes this.

Glad you got it fixed. So those ribbon cables for the DGFF are replaceable? That's good to know. Figured it would be soldered onto the MB. -
Nope, they are modular. You can just unscrew them off from both the GPU and the motherboard and put new ones in.

Nice! That's pretty neat, glad they did this. -
Had the same issue with one stick failing on my AW 15 r2 and I threw it in my cupboard and after several weeks I tried it again and it worked. I wipe the entire stick with ispropyl alcohol prep pad and I'm still using the same RAM stick even w/o any issues. Try that.Fire Tiger likes this.

I'll try that, although it's in pristine condition visually.

My laptop will arrive tomorrow, according to the serial number, I'll get an AUO. Even I don't have any IPS now, I was a long time Apple user. I'll get back with detail information if I can manage any for you.
Did you guys know about you can check your parts list from Dell's support page using your laptop's serial number? I don't know if the list is reliable or not.

Ha ha, you had such a story there. So now, you have 2 DGFFs in your pocket, right? I hope your lemon turned sweet now, it hurts looking at your first DGFF, it's just so torn apart here and there.

I understood, I'm waiting for the technician to call me to schedule a visit, very difficult.
-
A few years ago I gave my m17x R3 to the official support company for Dell (at the time) in Dubai, because my graphics card wasn't working. The technician removed the card and then screwed it back without cleaning and re-pasting.
When I asked why he did this he replied "there was still thermal paste left over from before"

That's my opinion, too. A good black level is important to me.
Ok, sounds good
-
That's just cosmetic. It's in great shape! And no, the lemon is still a lemon and will be going back to Dell's vegetable cold storage.c69k likes this.

Hi, how did you figure this out via serial number? Is there a possibility to compare the serial numbers when it the laptop is going to be assembled?
Thanks -
First, go to https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04 and type your serial number into the search box, hit enter. Then, click System configuration tab. Your original parts are all there.
No, you must have a specific serial number to know its original parts list.

I see, if i understood right, you type in your specific serial number that you get from Dell whyle assembly, into the search box and you can see, which Panel is integratet?Latostno likes this.

Can I see your overclock settings pls, u use Throttle stop or AWCC ?
-
Throttlestop but my settings are useless for you as every CPU has a different VID (stock voltage).
One CPU has 1.25v and the next CPU 1.28v and the very next CPU 1.33v. And then every CPU has a different minimum voltage (VID - Offset). Thats why every User has a different stable offset value
The offset says nothing if we dont know what load voltage the CPU uses. We must talk about load voltage, not offset.
My CPU runs 4,7ghz @ 1.07v (offset -120mv) and 5ghz @ 1,2v (offset -80mv) during load (CB r15).
so just use TS, set you clock and find your min stable load voltage
-
Adaptive voltage or static
I wouldnt mind seeing the screenshots of where u adjusted never mind I know each processor is different , just need to have a base of start , using this app for the first time -
doesnt matter. On my CPUs i had same min voltage with both =1.07v
start with -100mv and increase in 10mv steps.Last edited by a moderator: Apr 25, 2019raz8020, VoodooChild, Fire Tiger and 3 others like this. -
Clevo cannot touch Alienwares in terms of build quality* which are still a very plasticky thing with cheap feel compared to AW/MSI or Asus and has barely any manufacturer support.

I still see the VID going up to 1.3 even after inputting static 1.2 and -100mv
I guess that’s not normal ? -
My fans don’t kick in until cinebench is almost done and temps get to 90+, profile is on high performance, I remember someone saying there is a setting to keep the fan on max , where can I find that ?
-
use performance Fan Profile in AW CC. Balanced kicks in when CPU Temps above 90
-
I guess that’s where I have an issue, my Oc controls don’t install , always giving me 0x80079643 installation error
As such the fusion thermal and Oc options don’t show anything just constant spinning
Have tried uninstalling completely and going thru dell site , same error , tried with windows store same error for the Oc controls .
Except u mean power management tab , it’s in high performance setting in that section -
-
I had the same problem, had to do a clean install of windows and then OC tools loaded fine.
-
is there any fix for oc controls installing properly, or i have to reinstall windows afresh
-
Damn... Lol

Hi Guys,
First some background info: My first Alienware was a M17X, which served me well for 6 years. A month ago i decided i wanted a new Alienware laptop, and the Area 51-m caught my eye. Some weeks later and it arrived (17-4-2019) (9700k / 2080). At first i was really happy with my purchase, it ripped through all the new games i wanted to play (Metro, Shadows of war, Division 2). But after 1 day of use the screen turned black and became completely unresponsive (a known issue). I tried rebooting in order to find out more about the issue, but after the 4th time rebooting, the laptop unfortunately died
. This was after one day, and after waiting for my laptop for 3 weeks this was a real disappointment. I scoured the web and found some people with similar issues, it is likely that the GPU and Motherboard are broken. Now Alienware support (Facebook chat) is offering me the following two options, and im not sure which one i should pick...
1. Send the laptop to a Dell Repair Depot. They say once it arrives it will take 6-10 days for it to be repaired, after which it shipped back to me.
2. They can also send a Dell tech with the parts that are likely defect (gpu and motherboard i think), they mentioned this will take less time but its uncertain if they will be succesfull since they dont know the exact issue.
Can anyone that has had a similar situation give me some advice on how to proceed, how has your experience with getting a replacement of repair been? i was really excited (and i still am) to game on this system.. unfortunately i will have to wait some more
Thanks!S.K likes this. -

Revo Uninstall or CCleaner. Whichever one, doesn't matter as long as free trial is avalible. Both are annoying and will prompt you to buy. Ignore and uninstall when done -
I would definitely request a full system replacement or refund not repair etc..Vasudev likes this.
-
Thanks, but now that oc controls isnt even installed, what would i be uninstalling , AWCC ?
-
That's matter of opinion and quite a generlised
I would request a free upgrade to the 9900k + 2080 for the inconvenience caused. -
Let me just do a reset and take full control
-
Loadline setting prevents AW users to input a static voltage (or even get the real voltage value reported).
Long story short, you have to undervolt -0.100 Mv to get your cpu to run on the inputted static voltage. -
Thank you , all reset and all good in less than 10mins , Now let me explore properlyFire Tiger and Rei Fukai like this.

Hey guys (and gals...there must be a few of us here...)!
Been looking to purchase a high-powered laptop, did some Internet searches, stumbled upon some articles about this laptop, and found myself here a few days ago. Went over some of this thread, but at 900 pages, it's a daunting task, to say the least.
One of the things that I would want my laptop to perform is GPU-accelerated computing tasks. I saw an interesting dual-GPU Eurocom model that appears to be capable of this, but Eurocom does not have the best reputation up here (Canada).
Is anyone here using the A51M for such tasks?raz8020, VoodooChild and Rei Fukai like this. -
I do that all the time with my machines. However it depends upon the type of computation you're seeking to do on it and the efficiency of underlying architecture. Generally, AMD GPUs are superior to nVidia when it comes to compute performance. Especially deep learning algorithms.raz8020, Vasudev, DebbieOh and 1 other person like this.
