Can you not see if HID would extend the return period as a gesture of good will, due to the issues you've experienced up to now? Worth a shot if you do really like the laptop.

    Hello all,

In my week-long mission to avoid using Spyware 10, I have tried many things, even, oddly receiving much help from Microsoft with 8.1 Pro, but alas with so many missing drivers, MS decided they could not get Windows Update to run, not matter whey they tried. So I gave up on that as I did 7.

The most success I have had is with Windows Server 2019 Standard.

Knowing the similarities between Spyware 10 and Server 2019, I used Driver Magician to extract all of the OEM drives, and was successful in restoring all but two drivers.

However, I am unable to get the RTX2070 driver installed, either normaly, or forced. Same goes for WiFi card. I can live without the GPU for a 'work-partition', but the WiFi would be rather inconvient.

Investigaging the UWP error, it seems Windows is to be come a Walled-Garden, just as Mac OS is. It seems my hate for Windows 10 has found new bounds. I am agahst. I wish Linux would get its gaming-act together, and quick. I was unaware of UWP, and baffeled by the European Commission's actions to fund improvments in many common Windows-based programs, such as VLC Player, Notepad++, 7-Zip, Filezilla, and more. NOW I get it, the EC can see what / where Micro$oft are headed. What a disgrace Windows has become.

Check CPU-Z performance above using Windows Server 2019^

    GPU-Z Benchmark Win Server 2019 9900K - all handed off to CPU.PNG
^It seems whillst the Intel iGPU installs and works, normal graphical requests get handed-off to the CPU, note CPU usage under GPU-Z's built-in test.

Unable to force driver for RTX.PNG
^ Unable to force RTX driver install. I reckon modifying the Nvidia install package might be the next step. Though I do not expect it to be as simple as matching lines, as I expect there to be no entries for Win Server & mobile GPU in the nvdmi file.

Maybe we need to crowd-fund someone with the skill-set to assist us with our drivers, so we are not forced to use Spyware 10?

I am running out of ideas....

Nice. I have the 16gb kit incoming as well as my 51m which shipped today.
Also have a pair of Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe drives on the way for RAID 0.

It wasn't that big of a deal - I noted in awe of the cost of actual racing calipers & rotors. Whoa, I thought, there are some seriously wealthy people out there....

I liked the saying in Monaco - they saying is now, "there are the haves, and the have yachts". Nice play on words there for anybody who might consider themselves rich. Took me down a peg or two...

    Very funny.

There aren't really generic settings, you need to use Intel XTU or Throttlestop to undervolt your CPU, then something like MSI afterburner to undervolt your GPU, there are some good guides for using these on Youtube.

Throttlestop Guide: I find this one useful, albeit a different CPU, but it covers most of what you need. Credit to @B0B for this:

MSI Afterurner Guide: @Mr. Fox provided this one, which might help

If you want to get more advanced then you could open the laptop and re-paste both the CPU and GPU and replace the thermal pads.

Once this has all been done, you could finally add a laptop cooler, however, if you do all of the above I don't see this step making too much of a difference.

EDIT: Tried to tidy the post up a little.

I agree. Cooler doesn't have that much of an effect thermally. I use rubber laptop feet to elevate the backside of the system and it works like a charm. Although, looking at the videos of the Area 51m, it looks like it has more height at the back then their previous designs.
I've been using these and they're the awesome:

Save it as pdf because Dell servers have tendency to wipe the warranty dates and save it as 1 yr warranty. Make sure service tag and exp. code is present in that pdf.
@VICKYGAMEBOY was scammed by dell when he requested too many mobos to fix his laptop and he lost lot of money when Dell cancelled his 2 yr complete care warranty midway.
Be smart and be safe. Your Dell care plan is standard plan that comes w/o 24/7 support through Phone/Chat. Most likely you will get Redington's reps or dell's reps from UAE/India depending on your luck.(They work for Dell though)

Damn did you use credit card to score a complete care package for 2 years? Its almost close to 400$ for 1yr in India.

Battery isn't covered under the extended warranty unless you opted for 200$ 2 year battery warranty. Sanyo/Panasonic,LG or Samsung works very well even under high stress w/ minimal wear and tear. Dell and Simplo are misconfigured and gets killed after using Battery boost 80% of the time within 6 months. At the same time, Simplo+Hp,Simplo+Lenovo counterparts lasts more than 3 years. Dunno why it happens!

I travel a lot due to my work and haven't owned a desktop since 12 years! I've been using a M17xR3 since 6 years and this system is a perfect excuse to upgrade to a new one. I was not interested in any BGA laptop up until this point and when this one showed up, I've decided to give it a try! I should have it within 2 weeks.

I dont travel much and I have a pretty beastly desktop. I'm having second thoughts on returning this 2070 9700k 51M. It's just so damn sexy! And more powerful than my desktop.

But I am not sure if it makes logical sense to keep it. I may need something with better portability and battery life for when I do travel.

They are coming by to get it today. Not sure what to do lol.

I think desktop has GTX 1070 (Phenomenal card btw) and a i7 6700K processor with 16gb ram and 2TB storage.

The 51M can get me 19k+ Firestrike scores. My desktop can only get me 15K

Lol .... naa just trying to console myself, we have expensive hobbies , best way is just to get what u want and not look back cos there will always be a question of , is it worth it ??

Like I have a MacBook Pro 15 mid 2012 , all maxed to 1Tb, wanted to get a new laptop after all these years , couldn’t bring myself to pay $5k for harddrive on a new MacBook Pro cos sadly that’s what am buying , an expensive hard drive on bigggg iPad screen .

So as I was browsing for PC rumors , I stumbled upon 51M , the rest is history , I still have my R3 Alien 17inch bought in 2012 with Blu-ray and 3D Vision googles and HDMI OUT with all the ports to make NASA grin with envy , we just have expensive hobbies , we cry and keep buying them

I noticed a problem today when my PC was overclocked. Ever since I upgraded to Bios version 1.5.0, it seems that my Wifi card doesn't like the OC and crashes on me with a "6062 - LSO was triggered" message in Windows 10 system events log. I noticed that this only happens when my CPU is overclocked to 5 GHz across all cores. It did *not* happen when I was on Bios version 1.3.2 (the previous version). Anyone else facing the same issues with new Bios? I have moved my clocks to stock and the error stopped giving me BSOD every 10 minutes!

The answer, sadly, is no—no, even though I placed my order like two days before the change, they have no way of having my in-progress build updated with their new standard wireless card without me cancelling and re-placing my order. But they kindly offered to let me buy the new card and replace it myself once I receive the laptop.

By the way, I replaced my faded palm rest today. Dell sent me a brand new one which was easy to replace as I was doing the final tear down and replacement of thermal pads as the ones that I applied 2 weeks ago had caught plenty of dust because of getting opened up several times.

As expected. Dell support goes around the porridge and has absolutely no desire to comment on the Burned Down Area models. Most likely been muzzled from those at the top.

The replacement shipped !!!! And the fact that it shows as fedex ground tells me it’s coming from somewhere in the US. I wasn’t aware we built these here.

Update: fedex shows delivery by Tuesday. So they got me a replacement in about 11 days. Awesome!

Is there a way to downgrade bios on this laptop to an older version? I tried the "bootable USB version but it seems that freedos doesn't boot on this computer as the USB never shows up.

I think Dell have put something in place to prevent BIOS downgrades. I'm sure @Papusan quoted it in this thread earlier.

The normal way Dell do it if the firmware come with major changes...
"There will be some occasions when the BIOS downgrade will not be allowed due to BIOS dependency, meaning the current BIOS has changes that cannot be downgraded."
Lets say Dell know some power settings in older firmware will burn down your hardware. Or they will Stop you from fixing <crippling (intended) changes> as Dell did with graphics temp target on their Dell XPS models.

Version 1.5.0 Bios is causing wifi adapter to give bsod anytime the cpu is overclocked to 5 GHz on all cores. I'm considering swapping the wifi card with another one that I have lying around and see if the crashes stop.

Avx Summary From Web ; AVX Instruction Core Ratio Negative Offset: This setting reduces CPU core frequencies by the applied value when an AVX workload is run. The thermal output of AVX workloads is an order of magnitude higher than for non- AVX workloads, which is why this setting has been introduced.

Going by this when Avx workloads occur say in games like AC Odyssey or anywhere in system as it happens on the fly, system drops from 5 to 4.8ghz all cores, since the heat generated is more than non avx loads that run on 5ghz without issues, also the voltage required for avx is always more than that required for 5ghz non avx loads .

i use XTU, set volt to 1.2v adaptive and -120mv for undervolting, all cores 5 and avx 2 for 4.8 when needed, my chip can do 5.1 and 4.9 avx but we dont wanna fry eggs yet, its already crushing my desktop as is, so am good, Max Temp Gaming 85c, looking for 80

GPU dropped to 1v 1905mhz, max temp 70c, no mem overclock yet, over the weekend, will do a test for that, taking it slow, so that before it explodes i would have enjoyed it well .....lol

I would like to add that I am not having issues overclocking to and above 5GHz with my wifi on. I have been using 1.5.0 as soon as it released.

Tried my CPU undervolt to the limit today.
I earlier had successful tests at -100mV, and left it there.
Today, I tested further, and cinebench r15 succeeded up and including till -165mV. At -170mV right after it finished I got a bluscreen.
So now did put it on -150mV (just to leave a margin of error). Did some extensive tests, and it looks fine at this value. Will leave it there.
Temperatures of the CPU dropped another 5 degrees extra

This motivated me quite a lot. Will try to push the undervolt of my GPU also to its limits now.

I just got the 780w PSU from Eurocom. It works perfect. They had to add a duel spliter, the length of the cable from the splitter to psu is about 4ft and the length from both adapters from splitter to laptop is about 6ft.

They are pretty long, I am going to get some black velcro cable ties and have then tied together all the way down to the splitter.

I have no performance issues and do not get any warnings from the system.

The quality of the PSU is very nice and love the LCD. Sorry for brief write up but its Friday and have plans.

Stayed about the same, it increased marginally. I think it might be within margin of error. we speak about a 0.01% increase

Stock timespy result when I first got my replacement laptop:
    https://www.3dmark.com/spy/6938517

Previous Timespy result: CPU undervolt of -100 mv (downvolt to 1.1V) + GPU downvolt to 862 (an overclock of +135Mhz at that voltage, reaching a max frequency of 1845, this is a potential performance loss, but in got significant better temps) :
    https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/35704090

Last Timespy result: CPU undervolt of -150mv (downvolt to 1.05V) + GPU downvolt to 850 (an overclock of +150Mhz at that voltage, reaching a max frequency of 1845) :

Don't know if these are within margin of error, or if I didn't run at correct fan profile on 1st stock attempt. But Nontheless. Very satisfied with the results. Will be running off my laptop using the last undervolt results. Hope everything will stay fine from now on with this laptop.
