I sure hope they do, but we don't know "for sure".

Also, I didn't say that ram speed makes no difference, but that it wouldn't matter much (I mentioned benchmarking). If you could provide me data that Ram 2400 mhz vs 2666 mhz leads to dozens of frames in a handful of real world situations I'd be interested to take a look. That said, if you're running an i7-9700k or better with an RTX 2060 or better then I doubt you'll rarely, if ever, see huge differences.

Plenty of videos show similar results to this:
Basically +4 FPS @120+ FPS... Gains for sure, but not huge.

2666 max on a flag ship is already unimpressive. Should have started with that AT LEAST.

I did say it only makes a difference when CPU bottle-necked, not many games are naturally CPU bottle-necked but there are certainly some out there. So yes it's not going to affect the majority of use cases.

But in case your interested, your video is not demonstrating a CPU bottle-necked game. The following video shows the effect of ram speed when CPU bottle-necked by running the game at low settings:

Has anyone else played The Division 2 on just one power supply (240W)?

I played earlier today and had no problems playing at 1080p High settings. Ran the benchmark before playing and had an avg of 68 FPS just running on the 240W power supply.

I played Insurgency: Sandstorm on just the 330W and was getting pretty decent FPS too...

Please document your switch, I'm curious if it's possible to just swap the panel or if you have to swap the whole assembly...

I'm about 99% sure this was mentioned on one of these 900+ pages lol...but if I apply my own Thermal Grizzly Conductonout to the cpu does that void Dell warranty?

Have you checked if Dell have Upgraded the MB power delivery on so called new batch machines? From what I have seen from your posts... I can only see changes on the Dell graphics.
    upload_2019-5-4_14-0-10.png
Don't expect this being possible in bios but in their proprietary app. What sorts of ram support they are able to offer into their apps (If they really decide to do this) will highly depends on the Motherboard's quality.

This is from Dell's Precision models.

If all others don't have same problem as you and with same hardware... Maybe try find the culprit for your problems?

    Hello,
I'm a little intimidated to post here as a newbe reading your fanatic opinions and suggestions for a few days. But finally, I have decided to order the A51M.

I am going to use it for heavy 3D modelling on-the-go as well as (CPU) rendering being an architect (a building one not a IT-one.)

I got the 9900K 2060 with only 2x4 gb RAM and only 512 gb ssd. Once it arrives in two weeks, I'll replace the RAM to 2 x 16 gb and add a second 1TB SSD. That to me seems like an amazing workhorse to get the job done for the coming 5 years.

Now, I'm sure I'm hugely underestimating something left or right. In terms of cooling, cheaply getting more performance out of it, or any other way. What would you suggest to furthermore improve and/or add?

Please bear in mind I don't get all your abbreviations.

    best, Maart

Congrats on your system. I'd strongly recommend a good repaste and pads. Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut and Arctic pads 1.0mm and 1.5mm.

You'll have to tune your CPU as well, but once tamed and at a decent Overclock you should be fine with thermals.

Congrats on your new system and welcome to the team! Try to repaste and repad and with a slight undervolt, you should have a great system. Keep us posted. Cheers

    Hi guys and gals,

I just got my Alienware Area-51M with i7-9700k/RTX 2080 from XoticPC last Thursday. I tried overclocking and undervolting my CPU but I can't seems to get 5ghz/-130mV all cores without thermal throttling. Is there any advice on how to do this properly?
Or maybe the laptop doesn't have enough heatsink to properly cool the system?

Just received the Killer 1650 and installed it in my Alienware. The speeds are superb, better than the Killer 1550 and so is the range.

oh sweet! Tell me more about that router? Aren't the units available now like test units or they're actual retail units?

How do you like it? how's the range? Does it disconnect your laptop or phones randomly like I've read on some Amazon reviews?

It's good, much better than the screens in the MSI GT75 Titans but the colors are a bit too white so I calibrated it.

    See:

    LG-Phillips 173WFG (Alienware Area-51m) Spyder5Elite Calibration Profile

But that profile is only for the LG screen. Some people are getting the AUO screen so it depends on which screen you get

The range is amazing, But I also have a Nighthawk EX8000 extender as I have a large home and to reach the wifi for the pool equipment took a little extra push from my last Nighthawk X8. So honestly I did not test the new routers range without extender, but from what I read it covers around 5000sq ft.

As far as speeds, My speed on the area51m increased almost double from the X8.

I think the units have been out for a few a while, Best buy had it 100.00 off for 399.99.

I have had no issues with dropouts, there was a new firmware it updated so perhaps this has been fixed?

Ohh snap that's a typo because the first Area-51m that I ordered was supposed to have that screen then I canceled my order as I was sick of the wait and got one locally which had the LG screen so that profile is indeed for the LG screen. I will request a mod to edit the thread title later

Any tips (in terms of what to do in Windows) on removing the 1550/installing the 1650? I saw the video for changing the hardware out--is that all you have to do, and Windows automatically recognizes/configures it? Or do you need to mess around with Device Manager etc.?

Check this thread, it has the latest driver for it>>> http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/alienware-area-51m-drivers.827895/

I already had that driver installed which is also applicable to the Killer 1550 that was originally in the system so all I had to do was swap the cards and boot up then reconnect to my wireless network.

Tip: you will notice that on the killer 1550 the black marker is on top saying AUX and the white marker saying WLAN is below it. On the Killer 1650, the locations are the same but the colors are inverted so now the white marker is AUXso do they confused, look at which cable was AUX and plug it into the AUX connector on the new card, same for the WLAN cable

    Hello everyone.

I am expecting my A51m to arrive at some point next week and would like to order some parts in the meantime.

I'd like to ask for some spiritual guidance on what ram and SSD to get.

I need to purchase 32gb of ram and a 2tb SSD; the machine is currently configured to come with 2 256gb nvme ssds, 1tb sshd and 32gb of ram.

Is it better if I replace one of the nvme with an Intel 660p or should I keep the originals and replace the sshd with a 2.5 ssd? I already have a 512gb Samsung 850 evo here that I'd like to savage... I shouldn't have any problems with 1 2tb 660p and 1 256gb stock, right? That way I can swap the drive with the Evo I have here... Please let me know your thoughts.

As for the memory, I remember reading some comments around the HyperX... 2666 Corsairs are going for $163.00 on Amazon right now, vs $205.00 for the HyperX...

    Much appreciated!

PS: I am getting it straight from Dell... Was able to get a 20% discount on top of retail price for a I9/2080... Is it worth repasting it? if so, with what? It has been more than 15 years since I had to put a desktop together (I remember the vga being a Radeon 9700 Pro lol)

Not sure on the SSD front, I'll be keeping an eye on the responses as I was eyeing the same one.

In regards to the RAM, I doubt you'd notice much if anything between the 2 and based on that I'd go for the Corsairs since they're much cheaper.

Where did you buy it locally? Which panel do you like better?

So on these specs it shows the LG is faster but as Trance pointed out, it seems theres some reviews of laptops with these panels and the AUO seems to be faster. Interesting.

Nice work I was trying to find the LG on panelook but couldn't.

So the LG is rated at 5ms and the AUO at 7ms, interestingly all of Asus marketing mentions 3ms for their laptops that use the AUO (probably BS though), and as I showed before Notebookchecks tests show the AUO at 7ms and the LG at 13ms. So I guess I'd call it a wash lol.

AUO also mentions 3ms in a press release back in Aug 2018.
    https://www.auo.com/en-global/New_Archive/detail/News_Archive_Product_180827

"The 17.3-inch full HD narrow border gaming notebook PC has a mere 4mm border width, the world’s highest(*) frame rate of 144Hz, and could achieve as fast as 3 ms response time to reveal extraordinary image quality and motion image performance."

I'm kind of leaning towards the AUO being the faster of the two.
Kind of a bummer as it seems less common.

Are you adding the 32 gb to what you ordered or swapping out completely? I wouldn’t mix match ram so if adding I’d buy sticks from dell or 64 gb of all same brand Don’t really see value if swapping out completely as can’t overclock - would wait and see what mhz range they eventually open up if any

I’d honestly love a true tweakable uefi bios like Asus mobos. Overclocking from desktop apps doesn’t feel right

Yes gsync.. I’m keeping the AOU. I switched the whole assembly’s a little while ago from my original laptop to the replacement they just sent. Easy change, took like 20 minutes total switching them around between the 2.

The colors and contrast are much better on the AOU compared to the LG as well.

Where are you located and was this a system exchange when you got the AUO?

While its awesome that you are providing color profiles...
Having calibrated literally dozens of panels, each panel is unique and comes with different color characteristics and different max luminance.
So, essentially the majority of the time your color profile does not benefit anyone else but your particular panel.
I don't post this to criticize but more to inform the people that are using your profile. :)

I’ll add another 32gb on top of the 32gb I ordered.
