Yeah it does seem the AUO is faster, glad mine came with it.

I'm in California and bought a week or so ago directly from Dell.

I think it is just a 50/50 chance on which screen you get, your never guaranteed to get one or the other.

Then its probably best to wait for the system to arrive and check which RAM sticks come stock. Then, you order a matching pair.
As for the SSD, I would recommend Samsung drives although Intel drives are cheaper in Dubai where I'm located. I'm also planning to upgrade my RAM and SSD when the system arrives in a few weeks time.

Thanks for the link. I hope I get the AUO one when the system does arrive but knowing my luck, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

He got it from Sharafdg in Deira City Center Dubai. I went to the store few days back but they were out of stock and the agent told me they had just received 3 pieces. I've seen one in Virgin website and tejar.ae but I feel they're overpriced here. Ended up ordering from Hidevolution. Gearup.me also has one on request but the prices are a little but spiked here.

Don't worry I usually have awful luck and ended up with the AUO so it's turning around for us unlucky folks.

    Crossing my fingers here :S

How do you know yours is a AUO if you just ordered it a week ago?

South Carolina... Yes My first unit came with the AUO. My Dell rep sent me a replacement unit so I would have the newer gpu. I wasn't having issues but wanted to be safe. The new unit came with a LG. I immediately saw the difference and started researching the two panels and knew I had to keep the AUO off the unit I am sending back.

If your order page updates to shipped it has the service tag in your order and you can check what parts are in the build a few days before you even get it.

As above, if you order from Dell, once your order ships you can check your system configuration in your Dell account, go to order status > purchase details > view packing slip and grab your unique service tag number from the bottom right. Then put service tag into the dell support page here:

    https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19

Then select: system configuration > components > 17.3" FHD 144hz

It will show you the part in your specific unit.

If you have the AUO it shows:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17.3FHD, AG, AU OPTRONICS CORP

If you have the LG it shows:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17.3FHD, AG, LEGEND

The whole lid/assembly is simple. Take bottom cover off, unplug 4 cables, 6 screws and that's it. The manual show sit you can download form dell, very very simple.

Cool, that is comparing 2133 vs 3200+
2400 mhz (what is actually supported by this laptop) vs 2666 is going to be MUCH closer. And again, we don't know if 2666 will ever come to the A51m especially when considering that we don't have any information other than conjecture.

Hell even in synthetic benchmarks it makes a difference, but not that huge. This is from a desktop I was benching, one dual channel (2666) and one single channel. https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/19029477/fs/19012462#

Don't mind the score too much, there was some overclocking nonsense and other things I was playing with, but the point being is that even when going from dual channel to single, or a little bit of extra mhz, the impact of ram really isn't huge. Sure it is something and I encourage people to go for faster ram when the price makes sense and the compatibility is there, but in the case where 32gb of 2400mhz of ram is avaliable for 30-50% less than 2666 ram in a machine that isn't even currently able to (and may never be able) to handle 2666, it saves some money.

I knew someone would dink dink the post about 2400mhz ram and I would have to explain this. I should have just left the link and anyone who wanted a good deal could take it instead of paying $70+ extra for no performance gains.

Even the H370 chipset, which cannot overclock an unlocked CPU at all, supports 2667Mhz RAM.
I am sure they just had to get this system to the market as fast as possible and now only need time for proper XMP certification/testing.

Thank you. The Actic pads, are to be placed on top of the CPU together with Kyronaut? I'm not sure what to do with the pads.

Thank you. With 'repad', you mean adding a thermal pad as iunock stated?

Which program do you use to undervolt and to which setting should I adjust the voltage?

Nono... The pads replace the stock pads 1:1 ... Remove the old pads then place the new pads on there. Only the thermal paste goes on the CPU and GPU.

Click on the AW in my signature to take you to the 17R4 disassembly guide as it'll give you a general idea from the pics in there...

    Hope that helps!

That's what these guys are, absolute geniuses by their own right. I've learnt so much from these forums over the years that I do not know how to thank them.
However, if you haven't done any repeating before, I strongly suggest you watch as many videos as you can and get a clear head. It's not that difficult but it's not a walk in the park either. If you can find a hardware shop who can do it for you, take it to them or you can call Dell and have them send a technician over.
Good luck and keep us posted.

The latest Alienware command center actually features XMP (just not available for 51m, yet), so as Prema said above, the 51m was probably rushed to market to make it in time for CES, and imo we will likely be getting XMP at some point, which would mean 3200mhz here I come.
Yes, going from 2400 to 2666 will be very minimal. But I disagree that going from single channel to dual channel is minimal. Your benchmark doesn't test memory very well. Single channel memory creates frame-rate dips in many games:

Just use it. In order to find out if it's different, you would have to tear it down and look at the mosfets on the GPU.

Today when playing overwatch I got " Your rendering device has been lost"
And the game crashed. I assume this is due to the undervolt I did, which I did push a little further yesterday, but everything was fine at first sight. Didn't notice any graphical errors during any of my tests yesterday, but today this happened.
Got me worried there for a second that it was my GPU dying again.

Although everything was working just fine. It's just that overwatch was frozen.
Is it safe to say it was due to the undervolt? So my GPU was undervolted to 862mV at 1845MHz (135MHz Overclock at that mV) as the upper limit. Yesterday I changed that to 850mV at 1845MHz (150MHz overclock at that mV)

Edit: Checked system event viewer, and got this:
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Could be many reasons, but yes when trying to find your max undervolt and max clocks, expect to crash for a while to figure it out. Some games are more sensitive as well. While one game may play great for hours, another may crash in 3 minutes.

But why on earth not add in support for native 2666MHz when they validated the hardware in first place? They could just work in the background with XMP certification/testing <if this is what they really do right now>.The notebook is developed with Z390 and 9th gen Intel processors.
And remember they also rushed out the slim featherweight Stepchild Alienware m17. But this AW model come with 2666MHz native memory clock speed. I don't like the smell of all this.

Perhaps a suggestion on what to run that would really push the limits?

Only option without oc controls is bios, fans at max speed on or off.

I really hope they hurry and release a better version of AWCC and OC controls as I have had to clean install twice from my oc controls stopped loading. I read to go uninstall c++ 2017 and one guy got it to reinstall but I tried many times and wiping was my only solution,

The OC controls last update is bugged. Once i uninstall it I can reinstall it for some reason. The version before that installs. I'm guessing there are still remnants of XTU in the system since i installed XTU and uninstalled it. Thats why I get an error message when I try to reinstall the latest OC controls. If i install any version previous to the penultimate version and then try to reinstall that version then I get the error message that the previous version must be uninstalled.

If I do a clean install i dont get those error messages.

I dont want my fans on full speed all the time so AWCC is the only way to OC for me now.

So, I'd just like to note for a moment that Quadro RTX is coming for the Dell Precisions, as noted by Tweakers, specifically this image.

This means we will be getting Quadro RTX DGFFs. Let's wait until July to see how they perform.

This info with UPS/Kill-a-watt? Or just from the Psu display? And with what clock speed? Can you post Info from testing with Hwinfo. I'm looking for the numbers in the colored frames. The Purple frame shows what Hwinfo know about what power adapter is used. Take screenshots at 3/4 into the test. Thanks

Agreed. I heard oc was broken but thought ‘eh, just doesn’t OC for real - I’ll try out for fun’

Caused system to full shut down on tests- ok that’s fine. Used to that in OC on desktop.

BUT WHATS THIS?? After last tinker (5.2 was fine with -85mv so I went up in clock and went to like -65mv to let it have little more power and would whittle back down.... NOPE
Caused system thread exception after restart. Would occur maybe 10 seconds into normal boot.

Safe boots / recover spots would not work

HAD to factory wipe —- so ya. Super glitchy

I also have the same part listed 3 times on my order. only 2 heatsinks and the computer can only hold 2 so its probably an error. My guess is they are the Toshiba XG6
