Mine fluctuates as well, I haven't been able to run at a fixed voltage all the time. Moreover, if I want to set the cores at 1.23V for example I need to set a considerable lower value in TS to be able to get the limit on 1.23V.
I wish we had that LLV curves in BIOS too, been able to tune up the whole frequencies curve like you can do with Android kernels and Afterburner for the GPU would be really nice.

All were true except brightness for me. The LG Is around 335 nits while the AUO is about 290. Other tests show this as well. When gaming both are identical to me

It's funny how I got a weaker motherboard with the "upgraded" parts. Mine was from the same batch!

I'm on the same boat as you. Well, let's see how the system holds up under gaming and daily usage. If it blows, then it blows. What can you do, right? I am not the type to worry about what might happen in the future. I say, bring it on to life in general. The 2 year warranty should cover up nicely for now.

Just curious, did you order an nvme and ram through them and if so, what brand did you get? I've upgraded 2*8GB sticks from them and 1TB nvme SSD as the boot drive and have been wondering which brand will show up. Thanks

After the experience you've had with them, can't say I blame you considering how bad your thermal application was. It was a noob job if I've ever seen one and I'll be very vigilant when mine shows up.
But on their part, they did publicly apologize on a public forum and refunded $150 to you so I say it evens out and hopefully their QC will be better in the future.
Donald did tell me they've been extensively stress testing my machine more than usual and it'll not leave their warehouse unless it has passed all the tests Nikki throws at it. I just hope they've learnt some things from your debacle. Whether he actually meant it or it was just a customer satisfaction email only time will tell and I'll post about it here when it does come through. Hopefully, I'll have some good things to report. Cheers

If it blows it blows , I like that , that’s my way of life

Yes I went with all the highest spec so they can make money also while making my system perfect .... loll

    Ram is Kingston 16gb 2666mhz and my m2 is evo plus 970 1tb x 2 plus 4Tb evo 860

I just remembered they even gave me solid discounts after I had placed the order and money had been charged, I now had opportunity to increase some SSD so as not to get any refund

Yup, that's it. We probably got our laptops from the same lot that contained around 5-6 lunar light machines. :)

Get the 4TB one from Amazon. Much better value.

Anyone able to get the latest Nvidia driver to install? Mine got an error, forcing me to uninstall and reinstall a previous version, don't want to try that again if its an issue for others as well.

I'm running the latest drivers. Installed today. Do a complete uninstall, disable windows updates for hardware devices and perform a clean install after reboot. It should fix the issue.

Well, it’s very sad to say that we won’t be upgrading our upgradable CPUs in the 51m R1. Better start saving and get ready to sell your current 51m now with this additional confirmation of a new socket and chipset lol. And it looks like these are launching next month !! Much sooner than I thought.

Thanks, that’s how I’ve been updating in the past, this is the first time I’ve had an issue. I usually do custom install and check the box for clean install, do you do the same?

Thanks, I’ll try that if I get the same error when trying to update through GeForce Experience

A51 M2 might come with Ryzen & Intel Comet Lake CPUs and Nvidia GPUs.
So upgradable A51M idea is dead except for DGFF GPU.

You serious? None will buy EOL system released 3 months ago if new A51M2 is incoming. Its best to release after a year because A51m is socketed PC unlike BGA.

Why would they wait a year now? They need to keep this system at the top of other systems. I think we could very well see an R2 around fall now. All they will need to do is update the motherboard. They might not even call it the R2 and just magically start offering the latest comet lake processors with the Z470 chipset. They have probably been working on it for a while now with intel.

I don’t even see how we would benefit from the 10 core 10 thread comet lake CPU based off the same 14nm process; we can barely keep the 9900K tamed under heavy loads. The truth is we have more than enough CPU to last a long while. The R2 will need to have revised cooling as well to handle that new beast of a CPU. The most I ever plan on upgrading this machine is to the RTX 3080. After that it’s going to be sold for the next machine.

I have friends that still game on canyon lake and i5 skylark cpu’s just fine. The cpu power and options in the 51m will be able to game for many years. I’ve never bought a laptop or computer for that matter on a promise of future upgrading. It almost always never works out thinking you’ll be able to upgrade. Heck even desktops almost every damn time a new cpu comes out a new chipset does making motherboard upgrade needed or atleast wanted for feature sets.

I'm still using 2920XM and runs everything I need like a dream! I'll get a 5 year warranty with my new system and wait for many more releases like this including the GPU before upgrading to the new one. I don't need or want the latest and greatest. This system has everything I need for 5 years! I upgraded my iPhone 6 64GB to a Samsung S9 plus 6 months ago and won't be buying another phone for minimum 3 years. Screw this yearly upgrade cycle I say! Who's with me?

Then you're THE fortune one. In my case, I've yet too fully justify to my wife why did I buy the Area 51m when the old M17xR3 "is still fully functional". LOL

She doesn't know that I've a AW 25" screen on it's way too. I might have to take her to a beach resort somewhere here in the UAE over the weekend and share the news with her. Haha

for now I am satisfied with my machine, excellent materials and assembly, very nice screen, cpu and gpu with good temperatures and excellent performance, the only problem I have concerns the temperature of the PC400's nand controller which under stress (benchmark) reaches over 90 degrees

I would like to add that Hidevolution just upgraded my wifi card to Killer 1650 for free! If their negative feedback needs to posted in an unbiased fashion, the positives needs to be brought forward into the light as well.

Just saw this page and realised that I've missed out on nvidia's triple threat promotion as the code needs to be redeemed by May 2nd. I do not care about Battlefield V or Anthem but it would have been nice to kickstart my new beast with Metro Exodus. I'm a big fan of the series but now it looks like I'm out of luck. Kingdom Come Deliverance and Modded Skyrim will have to do for now it seems.

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/g...hreat-bundle/terms-conditions/

I hope I don't lose out on Division 2 as well as my expected delivery date is around 24th May.

I wonder if the old inventory was all sent back to Dell?

TS works great for me. :)

My LG panel calibrated shines... It looks great.

Same.. I do like how the LG is brighter. It just needs calibration to bring out its full potential.

I wonder if they toned down some stuff on board... Uugghh... Over compensation on dialing things back in fear of a rerun of events often makes companies do this kind of stuff... But who knows it could just be the luck of the draw with the board just being weak.

4tb M.2 NVMe? Wish that existed Samsung could totally do it. But yea the 4tb Evo 2.5" are awesome...

I'm glad the 2TB Evo Plus is out now.. Ordered. I've been waiting for that to release for months...

    I agree with @HaloGod2012 ,

"I don’t even see how we would benefit from the 10 core 10 thread comet lake CPU based off the same 14nm process; we can barely keep the 9900K tamed under heavy loads.

The most I ever plan on upgrading this machine is to the RTX 3080. After that it’s going to be sold for the next machine."

Precisely... The 9900K is even on the edge with these current units so a 10 core? Lol...

I've got a 8700K @ 5.0GHz running on the black A51M and it is absolutely perfect IMO...the temps are amazing and a perfect match for this heat sink. (I'll include all of the details in the review).

The 9900K is nice, but for most people who just game it's really not necessary and IMO overboard for this unit.

Women upgrade their purses... We upgrade our tech lol...

Be careful on using the "purse" card lol... YMMV

I'm sorry but that's a blatant lie. This is from my motherboard that came from HID. [IMG]

The only thing that Dell sent to them "upgraded" was the DGFF cards. Motherboards are still anyone's guess. Lower spec power components on all of them. The upgraded board which came from Dell has hand soldered parts on it that are clearly visible. The HID ones are machine soldered with lower current rated main power mosfets. I'm lucky that I got replacement motherboard from Dell.

    LOL

The revised MBs that Dell is sending out have lower spec parts on them now? Or the HID ones?

The ones they sent to HID were *NOT* revised. Either they lied to HID or HID is lying to their customers. I suspect Dell with the lies as they'd say (if they could) even the burnt out boards are running perfectly fine and they're just not showing on the screen.

P.S., Take a look at the revision number and build date on the motherboard picture that I shared above. There are no signs of any parts getting replaced on it anywhere! The one I got from Dell shows signs of parts replaced and extensive repairs, though.

Oh okay. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm sure HID had a part in it as well. Or at least I would hope they would know if they received revised parts or not. Who knows any more though.
