Pcie bandwidth matters the most when aiming for best fps or when doing SLI

8x will affect some games as the 2080ti also takes a hit from 8x vs 16x

Thank you very much everyone for your help. :)
I now understand the principle of the undervolt. But being a beginner in this area, I want to know more precisely what software you advise me, and on what exact settings to click and test. Because each software is full of options ...

    Thanks again.

Would you be so kind as to explain how to do Step 5? I removed everything and downloaded the INF Driver package. When I go to device manager I saw the wireless card and was able to right click, update, and then select the folder. I can't seem to find the Ethernet one to update (E3000).

If no driver is installed for the LAN E3000, that's because you uninstalled the driver which is the proper way to do it. But then you should see an unknown device in Device Manager called either Ethernet Controller or something of that sort, that's what you want to right click on, choose update driver, then point it to the E3000 Driver.

Anyone get a Area51m (with a 144hz G-Sync Display), in the last week or two that came with an AUO panel?
    Please? Thanks!

Mine has an Auo panel but it is going to be changed today as mine got a dead pixel from just 2 weeks of usage. Let's see which one the Dell engineer is bringing with him today. I'll check the response time compared to my current panel before allowing him to take mine away.

Man, I repeat, you sure know how to use your warranty or the reps in Singapore/Malaysia regions are simply awesome. When I lived in India, it used to take about 4 hours of wait times and countless phone calls just to find someone with an inkling of computer knowledge. Most of them sound like they're just reading things from a damned computer screen.

Let us know brother how it all goes and if we can get a side by side comparison of the panels with your helpful insight into the matter, that will be great.

Your posts have been one of the most helpful and most interesting ones in this thread by a long shot and I hope you'll continue to do so for the benefit of all of us. Don't let yesterday's hiccup deter you from sharing your knowledge and your insight. Some people around here (and in normal life in general) just like to say things blinded by their own unseen prejudice and ignoring them is one of the best ways to deal with it. You simply cannot make a blind horse see things!

    Thank you.

Just fyi, I got the 9700k and 2060, I was was after low temps and low noise.
But mine came with the base model heat-sink without side-sinks (just the two rear sinks).

On the Dell website the exact wording used is "The Intel® Core™ i7-8700 with NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2060 configuration does not have a side-exhaust".

So mine should technically have come with the upgraded heatsink as I have the 9700k.
I will contact dell and if they are not willing to send me the better heat-sink I am returning this.

Basically instead of seeing fins you just see solid black through the side vents. But the other more obvious way to spot the base heat-sink is taking off the rear cover and through the heat-sink peephole in pic below you only see 2 heat pipes for CPU rather than the 4 you see on the upgraded heat-sink, so the CPU thermals will be trash with base heat-sink...

Does anyone have a part number for the upgraded heat-sink?
I'd appreciate it as it would be useful to use in my quarrel with Dell as the reps are mostly clueless about the two different heat-sink configurations.

Ah okay. So there is no side exhaust at all and no way to "mod" it to allow side exhaust?

It's kind of ridiculous they went with two different heatsinks on a machine that is meant to be upgraded with higher end parts.. Designing two different heatsinks when they could have easily went with the one is pretty ridiculous and was clearly only made so they could charge customers more when upgrading.. can't wait to see the price of the DGFF card upgrades when they release.

I was running some tests and temps on idle are ok, with 39c max 42c on low profile fan and outside temps of 20c.
I did try BFV but i put ultra settings and I'm getting 25fps to 35fps is that even normal? With fans on performance mode.

My specs 9700k+ rtx 2070 and 16gb of hynix ram.

I did change my boot disk to an 970 pro 1tb and the second slot with 970 1tb evo plus i did keep the 2'5 hybrid sata and i did a test.. I let the images to speak to itself.

I think i have to undervolt the cpu.

Set your RAM from 2100Mhz to 2400Mhz 14-14-14 (until 3000Mhz+ XMP beta BIOS is public), DDU and use @j95 235.xx driver, run vRAM at 2000Mhz (for FS), set CPU cache to 47, optimize the GPU voltage curve...

    @custom90gt @VoodooChild

So my up arrow key popped out. The hinge was broken so it would never snap back on properly. I contacted Dell Dubai who first told me I need to pay for an entire new keyboard because this is physical damage. I then explained to them that even my first laptop had the U Key fly off and it's all over the web that the keyboard is flimsy so the supervisor gave me an exception to have the keyboard swapped free of charge.

1 Week later, the keyboard arrived at my home with the Dell Technician who was getting prepared to disassemble the entire laptop. I'm like, bro, just take off that UP key and swap it and we're done no need to spend an hour and a half reinventing the wheel. So that's what he did and boom! Keyboard is perfect now. He wanted to take the new replacement keyboard back but I'm like no way bro! You wanna take my spare parts? I'm not gonna wait for another week if any other key pops out so he left the replacement keyboard with me so I can use the other keys as spare parts if needed.

It sounds like you got a reasonable tech and may be the look of that laptop scared the crap of him, no one wants to pry open a $4000 beast and in your case, it's even more expensive with those super upgrades and glad it got sorted out so smoothly.

But, key caps flying off for the second time makes me even more skeptical about this laptop altogether. It has happened to me on my M17xR3 but that was after 4 years of usage and banging the W key in online multiplayer shooters daily, especially CSGO and Quake Champions. I think I'll buy a wireless mechanical keyboard when my system arrives because I do have a habit of banging my keys while strafing in-game.

Hey brother, I've on Area 51M on it's way to Dubai from Hidevolution as we speak and wanted to ask you, how much taxes am I looking at here? I hope its won't be something ludicrous like 10% of the value of the system or something. How much do you pay usually ?

    Thanks brother.

Well, the first laptop with the U key that popped out after 10 mins was a defective keyboard. The Up arrow key I must admit, my cat landed on the laptop from the top shelf so it was my fault so don't worry.

The technician's face turned yellow when he saw the laptop I'm like you've never opened this laptop before have you? He said no sir. That's when I suggested to swap the key only and it was such a relief for him.

I really didn't want him disassembling the laptop if he hadn't done it before, didn't wanna be the guinea pig you know so it turned out to be all good and I got to keep the spare keyboard to use other keys in the future if something goes wrong.

I paid only AD 180 DHS in Taxes upon delivery for my previous Alienware m15 from HIDevolution. It's 5% of the total value of the laptop.

Is that a decent fire strike score?

I have made also an time spy bench with the temperatures on HWinfo and under load max 60c in performance mode. temperatures are good on this? I forgot to SS temps on fire strike score.

It only helps when both sides are knowledgeable about AW or their portfolios. When end user uses an Alienware and customer rep never heard heard/used Dell before and uses desktop or thin client they'll simply say Dell just works. Everything just works according to specs.

Damn. I sure he was a relieved man, every single techie I've had for 10+ using a AW system, they've always thanked me for doing the servicing myself. When I was in India, they used to have a cup of tea and chill with my 2 cats and dog(both stray street animals, poor buggers) while I did the servicing myself occasionally asking them to pass the tools.
You must have a Garfield like cat for her to remove you key caps bro becaue cats are usually nimble animals and if I remember correct, you've like 10+ right? The hair colllection on your system's fans must drive you nuts sometimes huh? I live in Jumeirah and I've seen two stray cats in my building's garage, I've kept a food bowl and a water bowl for them since 6 months and regularly give them tinned fish, whiskas and supply their water daily. It's too bad that my wife is allergic to them and won't let me bring them in. I'm not a cat man myself and have 7 dogs back home in the Indian Himalayas but something about stray animals that melt my heart.

Back to topic, 180AED sounds reasonable and I would mind paying upto 300 for this system really. Its still much cheaper at Hidevolution than any UAE retailer. I also hope you'll tweak my Windoze 10 and my system in general when you've the time bro. I need to learn some of your famous tweaks and experience them first hand whenever you've some free time to spare brother, if I'm not asking too much from you.

How are other owner's of Area 51m finding their keyboard and its durability over time?

For a 2070 and a 9700k combo, I think that too less and you should be looking at about 19000-20000 points. Someone with the same configuration as yours will have a better idea though.
I would try overclocking both those chips, undervolting it if temps are a bottleneck, run the FS at full priority and try to reach 20k with at least 22k on the graphics score.

I think the tech was scared of Ultra Male, the tech might have disassembled the laptop if Ultra Male looked like Pierce Brosnan! When you stand next to Dave Bautista a small miscalculation might be the end his Dell contract and probably his bones too which sadly Dell doesn't offer replacements.
Cat hair/fur can dislodge keys whilst typing. Take care of 3.5mm jacks and USBC port, cat fur gets stuck there and are difficult to remove.

Got my new Auo panel today.

Also added a Mica sheet underneath the audio daughter board to insulate palm rest areas. Very cool left palm rest now!

Finally, put some liquid metal on the 2080! Running super cool without any air conditioner turned on in the room!

These are the CPU cooling pipes. I don't think there exists a model yet that doesn't have these pipes on it.

My 1 year old daughter sits in my lap and types with her fists and her tiny feet on this keyboard and I'm yet to see a flying key cap. Just wondering if they have glued them on in new keyboards or it was just a bad batch that caused annoyance to many in the past.

Took me roughly 10 minutes to replace the whole thing. You just have to take the back panel off, take the tail off, unscrew a total of 6 screws and take the wifi card out, and the panel is out.

Nice, so I wonder why frank said panels aren’t upgradable? It’s one of the easiest things to swap out. Also, what are the backlight ratings for these panels ? Do we still need to worry about backlight dimming over time ?

He might mean the panel itself. The whole assembly can be replaced in 10-15 minutes. It would cost MUCH more to replace the whole assembly rather than the panel.

I’ve had both, the LG is brighter, the AUO has better contrast and whiter whites. When gaming, both are identical.

Thanks man. This makes me feel a lot better about the panel I'm about to receive from Hidevolution. Any one would be just fine it seems to me now.
I hope their response times are equivalent as well because I mostly play competitive FPS like CSGO and Quake Champions.

Well I have the AUO and the color accuracy is pretty far off, looks unnatural and needs calibration. The contrast is good for an LCD, could be a lot worse (LG). But its still miles behind the 2k oled in my lenovo thinkpad, in every way. I'm going to have to get used to how bad it looks in comparison. It feels like I've gone back to dvd from bluray.

But zero backlight bleed on mine, so overall happy, as that would piss me off to no end.

I mentioned that. I was pointing out that the base model heatsink only has two heat pipes on the CPU while the upgraded heatsink has four.

Yes you won’t tell the difference unless you have them side by side. Both are great, and this is coming from a dude who has very bad OCD with his electronics.

I just noticed that there is a severe backlight bleed issue with the new screen!

Recieved my 9900k/2080 on March 5th 2019. Still going strong, and I love it.

CPU UV is .125 and I run my GPU at 918mv and my temps never exceed 85 CPU and 75 GPU on AAA games such as Division 2 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

My GPU holds 1905mhz after hours of gaming, and my CPU holds 4.7ghz on all cores.

Yes that is a lot for this panel that usually has 0. Although you won’t notice it much, you can play with the panel pressure on the top left corner to see if you can alleviate the pinch on the screen. This is what causes that glow.

Some in the thread said $800/900 usd to replace the panel  This awful prices because Dell designed the screen this way.

Eek that’s some bad backlight bleed

And UHD I guess ok but it can’t push many AAA titles at high settings to144 FPS in 1080p so 2k or 4 k will just kill performance more. Nice for Netflix but feel your really missing point of this machine if using it for Netflix binge.

    Rather have 1080p OLED

Yeah that’s stupid. Not sure what’s I clocked I changing just the panel in the assembly. Not going to try to disassemble the housing. I just did a complete lid/screen change. That’s quick and easy.
