Anyone happen to have their machine apart or taking it apart soon?

i don't have any tearing with an Alienware ultrawide hooked via display port on my 9900k/2080 51m. are you sure you have it overclocked at 120hz on the monitor menu and in nvidia control pannel? it says G-sync only works on display port, so i wouldn't use hdmi.Last edited: Jun 8, 2019

how long u use that ? you have any problem with that ( RTX 2070 configure 51m ) ?
Any one 2070 model has burn issue like 2080 model ?? or its just happen on 2080 model ? -

Buying some thermal pads finally, just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions on things to get?
Already have paste. -

i read before your machine has 2070 on it ? and it burn same right 2080 model ? -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
It didn't burn but it died yes.
The 2070 is a much safer bet at the moment. Only read about 4 cases of 2070s dying, one of them mine. -
wielly hartanto wijaya Notebook Enthusiast
died ? what do you mean with that ? stop working ? what the problem bro ? and what now you use ? you get replacement unit ? your fist unit is first batch ? -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
I replaced the gpu.
It just had a black screen. No 2070s have burned yet that I've heard of. -
I have been using a first batch 2080 since 2-3 months now and everything is looking good. It's not all models with 2080 that burn. It is a roulette at the moment.Xatanú likes this.

So I have my Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut tube and soon I will be receiving a Nanogrease Phobya Thermal paste. Once that gets here, I will open up the laptop again and replace Liquid Ultra With Conductonaut and replace ID Diamond on the GPU with the Nanogrease.
Stay tuned bro

Good Morning Everyone,
I've been reading through this forum for the last few days. Lots of great information. Thanks everyone!
Has anyone compiled a comprehensive "to do list" for the Area-51M with regards to thermal performance?
The general tips I've seen are as follows:
-Replace thermal paste on CPU and GPU.
-Replace/thermal pads.
-Undervolt CPU.
-Update GPU drivers direct from Nvidia.
-Raise the device on feet/stand.
I've just ordered the Area-51M (i7-9700 RTX 2080) and I'm keen to have it optimally set up from day one. This is my first laptop in 10 years so I'm a long time out of the game! Any advice on how to do the above would be much appreciated.
Or, if my list above is incorrect please let me know.
Regards,
Truckasauras.

i went from a toshiba qosmio X500 to a 51m area, as far as I'm concerned my configuration is totally stock, only undervolt on CPU and GPU, as cooling base I use a massive thermaltake 20 rgb and I suggest you to use the graphics drivers of dell . my temperatures are excellent

New Intel Chipset Driver is on Dell's site:

Does it download? Everytime I try downloading the old one from Supportassist/Dell website, it doesn't work. -
Not worth it if you have a 9th Gen CPU because this is just adding support for 8th Gen chips.
-
Not a real driver. Just Chipset INF files you don't need. You don't even need the next one Dell will push out from Dell support page... http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-by-obsidian-pc.801464/page-111#post-10633395

Thanks for the advice mate. What specs are you running?
How much did you undervolt by?

Yes, it downloaded just fine through Chrome and I've installed it too. I know it says "support for 8 series" but I don't see why not? I had just clean installed few mins ago so decided to go with the latest one.

I hadn't seen that benchmark. Thanks for sharing. Something new to play with is always nice. Interesting that there is so little difference between "high" and "maximum" results. Did you see much difference between the two presets?

Has anyone tried to see if Area-51m works as a Hackintosh setup?
I'm also wondering if this device has an iGPU at all.
Lately, I've been absorbed with looking into virtualization through Linux. There appears to be a way to do GPU passthrough on laptops. One of the requirements is that the the laptop needs to have iGPU enabled.
https://forum.level1techs.com/t/the-state-of-easy-and-laptop-gpu-passthrough-in-linux/125476
However, from what I've read, if you have GSync, iGPU is disabled.
Would be really great if this machine can do it. Any thoughts? If anyone has experience with this and can recommend a laptop that's verified to work with it, that would be great. -
Same with mine, it just died while playing Metro, but I had the 2080

Another faulty 51m?

Look what he says "Latest nVIDIA Driver" that's the issue y'all! It provides abnormal voltage that fries these GPUs. Haven't seen a case where one was using the Alienware nVIDIA Drivers and had his laptop burn.Vasudev and VoodooChild like this. -

Ya man, it looks like faulty nvidia drivers to me as well. And look at his method of stress testing too.... Furmark! GTFOH!
I've been using this laptop like it's the last day on earth since I got it and it's been stellar. In fact, I'm tried of stress-testing it really. It has passed everything I've thrown at it (other than Furmark because screw that software) and I'm done testing it after 2 weeks. I've shut it down since yesterday and will be using it normally henceforth.
For my usage case and my ambient temps, I run every game on performance mode and everything is desktop-like in terms of performance and the thermals. I have to say, I'm very happy with the laptop and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a high end desktop replacement.

Are you running stock or have you made any modifications? Repaste/undervolt etc?

I don't have Gsync and my iGPU appears disabled. It is kinda whack that we can't make use of optimus. I imagine if we could our battery life would be a lot better
-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Yikes. Never had an issue with Nvidia drivers, but i may start using Dells nvidia drivers.
-
If this was real... You would see many burned out graphics in laptops from Asus, Aorus, Dell, Acer, Clevo, Msi, Lenovo, Razer etc. Nope, Nvidia drivers ain't the reason for this awful results....
The internet would be flooded with similar results if this was the case.Last edited: Jun 11, 2019 -

Running stock on this machine and expecting thermals below 80C is too far fetched as per my findings. Remember, my ambient temps are 35C+ so your milage may vary.
I'm running a delidded 9700K (LM between the IHS) at 4.8Ghz on all cores (Undervolted to -100 using Throttlestop) ; max temps in game: 72C
GPU is Gelid Extreme paste running @1920Mhz at .925V using Afterburner; max temps in game: 76C
I use performance fan mode for all games (even CSGO) and balanced for desktop and regular tasks.

Nvidia drivers are not burning out any other gpu's (remember this is not the only device using this gpu). I don't think the drivers are the point of failure.

Here’s an update on my situation and a question for the thread. I had been waiting for my replacement 51m and kept having that date pushed, so when I saw today that there was an even steeper discount on the Dell store, I decided to just cancel the order and re-place it.
Same specs as my original order (9900K/2080/32GB), except this time I went with the 2TB RAID 0 NVMe’s instead of the 2TB RAID 0 SSD + 1 TB SSHD option (the NVMe option was $90 more expensive—for less total storage . . . why?—but the overall price was still over $200 cheaper due to the extra discount).
Question: if I want to connect this machine to an external monitor, does anyone have a recommendation for which current model on the market will provide the best picture and gaming experience? -
Thanks for the info mate.
I'm an Aussie so my ambient temperature in similar will be similar to yours.

I tried the 3rd Kryonaut syringe that I bought off of Amazon this year and this is 3 times in a row that I'm getting worse temps than Gelid GC Extreme (5 degrees higher) and even MX4 (3 degrees higher)! Earlier I thought it was just a bad batch but now I feel may be Thermal Grizzly is just blatantly ripping their customers off or there is a loophole in Amazon's supply chain which is allowing people to replace items in the overseas orders with fake/counterfeit ones! I used to get great temps with it in the past but this year seems to be totally opposite. I have thrown my 10ml syringe into the garbage can because I didn't want to spoil my ratings on a local reselling website that I sell used stuff on. Just a heads up for anyone who is looking to buy some in the future.

By doing someone will probably sell its as used product.
Maybe Kryonaut works best in certain temps, pressure and density. I never tried kryonaut but I'm happy with Cooler Master MakerGel Nano.GreatD likes this. -
Just ordered mine June 4th, and dispatched yesterday:
9th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K (8-Core, 16MB Cache, up to 5.0Ghz w/Turbo Boost)
17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) 60Hz Anti-Glare IPS Display with NVIDIA G-SYNC technology
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2080 8GB GDDR6
Killer 1550 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0
256GB PCIe M.2 SSD + 1TB (+8GB SSHD) Hybrid Drive
16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 at 2400MHz
Memory was standard, but will be replaced with 4x Kingston HyperX Impact 8GB (1x8GB) / SO-DIMM DDR4 / 2666MHz / CL15 (HX426S15IB2/8);
For the screen I omitted the Tobii Eyetracker, have it on the R5, never actually used it, so no, what I am not going to be using I ain't paying for. The 60 Hz screen is a bit low, but heck, I'll wing it anyways, it was the only display that did not cause the delivery date to increase.
Will expand the storage with a 1TB 970 pro Samsung SSD and replace the 1TB mech drive with another 2 TB mech drive, which takes care of the storage.
So when it is in, hopefully this week, otherwise next week, wipe the rig, and then install a clean version of Windows 10 pro and proceed from that point. -
Why waste money on 2667MHz HyperX's when A51m only supports 2400MHz on 4xDIMMs? It doesn't do higher than 2400MHz.
-
Got 'em for free, so why argue?
-
I have been using Kryonaut for many years now. It worked the way it was supposed to do, but now things are just getting ridiculously annoying with this paste. I don't care anymore if someone comes up with his story of great temps with this paste because I used to be one of them who enjoyed lower temps with this paste in the past, but not anymore.Vasudev likes this.

Then check the SPD just to make sure it supports 2400MHz using AIDA64/HWINFO/RAMMon.

I just noticed this morning that Dell have removed both the 180W and 200W VBIOS updates from the Dell drivers support page for the Area-51M. I don’t know what to make of that. Maybe they’re planning on making another new versions, and don’t want people to update to those ones any more, don’t know.

My unit (i9-9900K + RTX2080) just got shipped (will only arrive in about a month as it shipped from US but I'm in Brazil) and based on my service tag I got this part number:
V08H9 Card, Graphics, NV, N18E-G3, DGFF, R7
Is there any way to know if this is a new batch? -
Hello, where did you find the service tag? Mine just got shipped, no tag yet I guess...
