got it, thanks a mil!
Same card as yours:
Card, Graphics, NV, N18E-G3, DGFF, R7
So guess it should be fine. And for the memory:
370-AEOO : 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 at 2666MHz
DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 8GB, 2666, 1RX8, 8G, DDR4, S
Guess 2666Mhz is running fine in there .... On my order it was still listed as 2400Mhz, guess it changed during the process...Last edited by a moderator: Jun 12, 2019Rodrigo Yasuda likes this. -
Mine is 4x16GB, but one place says 2400, other says 2666
370-AEND : 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 2400MHz
CRXJ6 4 DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 16GB, 2666, 2RX8, 8G, DDR4, S -
The memory supports 2666 MHz, but is used @ 2400 MHz. There may be a bios update that changes this, but nothing really solid on that yet.Rodrigo Yasuda likes this.

I understand that even with a 2080, you won’t get the best performance with 4K monitors in terms of framerate—though the picture is probably awesome. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good monitor that offers the best of both worlds—performance and image quality? Trying to figure out what to connect my 51m to to get the most out of it, and I personally feel the 51m screen itself is a little dull/muted.

I have it hooked up to a qhd, gsync monitor and it´s the best of both worlds. Better picture and 60+ framerates.giltee likes this.

By chance I did a Dell Diagnostic and came to find my 2080 has a “Link Degraded” error, running at 1x instead of 8x. I booted into Windows and checked GPU-Z while gaming; it never went above @ 1x 3.0.
Has anyone encountered this and have a solve? I’m reinstalling drivers straight from Dell to see if that helps (I was running GeForce Experience drivers since I received my unit). I had the feeling that I wasn’t running games as smoothly recently, and surely this is why.
I’m starting to worry that my 2080 might be failing -.-. Not happy.
Thoughts? Help?
Edit: Reinstalled drivers and this had no effect (I expected that). In my mind, Dell Diagnostics detecting this hints at a hardware problem.
This is the error:
Anyone with a 2080: can you run Dell Diagnostics from boot pressing F12 and tell me if you see the same thing?
Also, I’m on 1.3.2 BIOS and 200W VBIOS. I reset BIOS settings to default and that didn’t solve it either.
Thank you!Last edited: Jun 11, 2019c69k and VoodooChild like this. -
The DGFF ribbon connectors that connect the GPU to the motherboard are damaged. Get new ones from Dell. They have really tiny pins on them which can be easily damaged if not installed carefully. This issue has been faced by many here including myself. A new set of connectors fixed the problem for me.VoodooChild likes this.

Omfg. You have to be kidding! I was extremely careful with those -.- (they looked flimsy!)
Great, at least I know now. I was suspecting as much (that I hadn’t connected something right).
Do you have the part number? How much do they cost?
Many thanks! -

I'm also on 1.3.2 and 200W and completed all the tests successfully without any issues. It should run at 8x in GPUz. It sounds like a hardware error to me, SK had it earlier if I remember correctly and a change of motherboard and gfx card fixed it for me. Use the forum search function if you're on desktop and you'll find it.

They're not really flimsy, just tiny. If you drag/rub them against the surface while tightening the screw, they're done. The pins get bent in the process and lose connection. But if installed properly, they don't need to be opened that much, even during repaste.
The part number is DA300015110 and the part vendor is Unimicron-fpc. -
Well shucks. The only reason I removed them was to get to the passive heat sink in the bottom and replace the pads. What a joke! Oh well. I’ll try to open my unit and reseat the connectors. I was SUPER careful, so I’m pretty surprised that they could be damaged.
Thank you for the PN and Vendor!
-
I repadded the mosfets without taking the connectors off. Just bend it over carefully enough until the secondary heat sink is accessible. Don't worry if you have warranty because Dell will replace these for free. In my case, just swapping those connectors with each other temporarily fixed the problem and I ran the computer that way until replacement arrived. You can give that a try. I wouldn't try and wrestle with them any further than this because the screw and the guide pins align them perfectly and they should have no alignment issues.
P.S., Mine came damaged from either the factory or from the reseller. -

With Liquid Ultra, when I used to run the Command Center test for overclocking to 5 GHz with a -100mV, the temps used to immediately spike to 100C and remain there until the test was over. Now with Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut, the temps spike up to 84C then rise up to 86C max so this is a very nice improvement
It took me freakin' 3 hours to disassemble the system and put it back together because I forgot one screw while re-assembling it so I had to disassemble it twice but it was worth all this hassle.VoodooChild, Cass-Olé, alberty and 4 others like this. -
If those flimsy connectors worked perfectly fine (graphics worked as it should) before you removed them of the graphics card for repaste-repad... It's on you and you should pay for them. This is not a warranty case.
Edit. Only if you paid extra for the Dell's Accidental Damage Service will cover such cases.

Man this Thermal Grizzly Coconut is the best thermal paste! I feel like I just bought a new taptop. I never hear the fans spinning now with my regular usage! -
And the smell is fantastic!!

The taste is even better!
Anyone try the new Carbonaut yet? Very tempted, but I also don't want to have to remove it if the temps are worse than kryonaut.. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
If you put toothpaste even it'd be better than Kryonaut -
It will come
Yeah, it works damn good for bursty workloads (where you encounter shorter wattage peaks). The differences will be much lower with prolonged high load. This of course depends on the cooling. But, yees Coconut thermal paste is what I prefer on all my hardware.

It's working great for me, 9700k averages 64-69C in 7+ hours of gameplay, 2070 averages 69-70C as well. Running 9700k with -0.150 UV and 2070 at 1900MHz @ .931V.
Both undervolted. I do want to send my chip in for a delid and try Phobya Nanogrease though. As I would like to run at 5Ghz and stay around the same temps.
Edit: Also, can you fix the link to the 51m drivers that are in the ZIP file please. -

Alright, so I finally got done with support and they've decided that I need to have my motherboard replaced. They gave me two options:
1. Have tech support come to my house in the next 2-3 business days and have it replaced onsite.
2. Ship my laptop to them in a prepaid box they send me, have it back a few days later. Total turnaround time from today would be 5-7 business days.
I asked what the lady would do and she said based on they type of laptop that I have, it would be better to send it in. I was thinking the same thing, maybe they have more knowledgeable people in-house, less likely to mess up my laptop?
Thoughts?VoodooChild likes this. -
Still, not better than top quality thermal paste or Liquid metal. Remember Carbonaut is more like a thin blanket that will covers the whole cold plate. The opposite of a very thin layer of thermal paste who will stay put on and only cover the unevenly holes in cold plate / IHS.Ashtrix likes this.

True, it would be nice to see how it stacks up to the traditional graphite pads though.
I ordered some Gelid Extreme pads and wanted to try a new paste/pad as well. I might order a tube of Phobya Nanogrease to try. If no one posts results before it gets here, I'll post the differences, if any, between it and Kryonaut.
Wish my pads would be here sooner though, the only place I could find them was in china.Fire Tiger likes this. -

Amazon is just a hub, anyone can sell almost anything on it, and Amazon does nothing to check or to vouch for authenticity. There are plenty of items sold that are fake, and the reviews do mention this. I would not be surprised if your thermal paste is also a fake.

It would not make any difference. Drivers do not burn only one brand of GPU and leave all the others unscathed.
That is correct. No, it's not being caused by drivers. That's not even a realistic assumption. Dell doesn't make any drivers. Neither do any of their competitors. They merely test certain drivers to verify they do not mess up some other aspect of the laptop (like weird software conflicts and other random bugs) and confirm that a specific driver version is stable at a given point in time, then they put their stamp of approval on that version along with all the other hardware drivers they have confirmed play nicely together. They then use that driver version (and the others that play nice with it) as the basis for all of their internal testing and troubleshooting. There is no other significance to the drivers they provide for download from their support page. They might tweak an INF and sign their tweak so it can install without triggering a DSE error, but make no mistake about it... their drivers come from the same place everyone else's drivers do... the ODM. It has been a while, back in the day when they still had a strong technical representative presence here, but Dell/Alienware have even posted as much and they have made it very clear that they do not create device drivers.Last edited: Jun 11, 2019 -

Don't send it to them, it will come back with scratches and more issues later.
Do a in-house service, keep a manual handy with you and watch the technician like a hawk!
Good luck.

I'd rather ask them to send a few motherboards and let me choose one and install myself
but obviously they'll not agree.
I bought from the official Performance-PCs store. Don't think i could get any more authentic than that considering the fact that this has not happened until this year. I've been using that stuff for years without problems.Last edited by a moderator: Jun 12, 2019 -
I agree with @VoodooChild and you should avoid sending it to Dell for repair whenever possible. Yes, watch like a hawk and hold the tech that comes to your house accountable if any mistakes or damage occur. At least you can do that. If you send it in for Depot repair, chances are greater the repair will be botched and it will be more difficult to resolve because you have less leverage and control over the outcome than if it gets repaired under your watchful eye.

I was messing around yesterday and just for the heck of it, I installed the available GPU driver 25.21.14.2546 ,A02 on my machine and fired up Sniper Elite 4 on quiet fans to make things hot. What I noticed is that unlike the latest 26.21.14.3086 which allowed the temps to reach beyond 85 degrees mark without issues, the Dell approved drivers crashed the game as soon as it touched 80. I am not sure if there is some sort of tweaking going on here or if this is a driver bug, but Dell's approved drivers do crash the application consuming GPU resources a LOT earlier than they should. I am running Bios version 1.3.2 with a 200W VBIOS. I am back to latest drivers now.
By the way, has anyone done performance tests between different driver versions? It'd be interesting to see what the so-called driver updates are doing to the overall performance of the GPU.Last edited: Jun 12, 2019VoodooChild likes this. -

You mean the compare the Dell provided drivers vs official nvidia drivers? I don't mind testing the two really, got nothing else to do all day today...and missus is our for birthday shopping. I feel like a kid with a monster machine on my hands with a full day to myself.
I played the Quake II RTX yesterday and the nostalgia was mesmerizing. Loved it. Now someone needs to put RTX on NFS 2 split screen mode and it'll be perfect.

And the Nvidia clock block 3 stop the graphics and power delivery from running too hot (power cap)
You could run well above 200w on the graphics even with Turing’s voltage cap. Aka you would see much more of burning out DGFF graphics without NVIDIA’s help crippling the mobile cards.
Last edited: Jun 12, 2019 -
No problem. They started gimping the voltage a long time ago. Nobody gets to run anywhere remotely close to maximum safe voltage except with hardware and firmware mods, and even then it's still very difficult to do that because of all the gimp-o-matic cancer in their firmware and drivers. Stock 2080 Ti max allowed voltage is a mickey mouse 1.093V. With the K|INGP|N vBIOS I can trick it into running 1.125V, and even that isn't enough voltage to cause any level of harm. It's how they manipulate performance (and customers). With all of the room temperature throttling nonsense and power limiting castration algorithms the Green Goblin employs, nobody needs to be worried about using too much voltage with a Pascal or Turing GPU... that just ain't gonna happen. Without the artificial smoke and mirrors firmware and driver manipulation it makes it too difficult for them to release what appears to be more powerful next generation GPUs. Their secret potion digital voodoo allows them to release "new products" that are "more powerful" without actually doing anything meaningful to the hardware.Last edited: Jun 12, 2019

This is what I bought and have been buying for years. Though this time around, there was no printed "Thermal Grizzly" logo on the syringe and the packaging looked cheap. Nothing printed on the plastic bag. Only stickers pasted on top of a plain bag that did the branding. It's not just this one. I bought some from local resellers as well in small packaging just to confirm my suspicion and it indeed performed worse. I have lost faith tbh and as far as I'm concerned, bye bye kryonaut. Way too many other good choices out there these days.
Edit: Surprise surprise! Looks like I am not alone!!!
