Well dell got back to me again and said it's a powersupply issue. So I guess the wrong one was used in their system for my order. So when I call tomorrow and they can give me the right one and send it asap I'll forgive them. If however they give me some story I'll canacel and go else where with my money.
Right now my top choices are an Alienware m15 with rtx 2060 from hidevolution and graphics amp or the new Lenovo Y740. They have a 17" 2080 max q version for aroun $2300 and roughly $120 for a three year warranty and accidental coverage. Plus they claim same day shipping. So one of them will gladly take my money.
I can't seem to catch a break can I @hmscott ?

I was about to order today (after finally getting permission), but going to hold on for now and give it a bit more time until I see how things unfold on here as you guys start taking ownership.
Hoping Dell sort this out quickly - but doubt it!Last edited: Feb 12, 2019Spartan@HIDevolution and Vasudev like this. -

Looking at the service tag there is no details about the screen manufacturer. I got the 144 screen gsync.
Re memory speed it does say 2666mhz despite 2400 MHz being listed on the dell website (what I ordered).
Wonder if we will get the devision 2 as in uk it now lists as included with tobi eye tracking. (Didn’t list this when I ordered). -

Hey bro!
I also waiting for one in UK. Its been shipped yesterday and delivery ETA is 19 February.
Re. memory - on invoice is 2400Mhz but service tag is 2666Mhz
I placed my order on January 29th and that time it was (Call of Duty BO with Intel 9900K) later they change it to (Division 2 with Tobii eye tracking)
I'm sure we will get one of this two games.Last edited: Feb 10, 2019 -
Just ordered order a Area 51m!
I had it in the basket for over a week, thinking keep my 13r3 or upgrade..
I'm from the UK
Spec list;
Alienware Area-51m
9th Generation Intel® Core™ i9-9900K (8-Core, 16MB Cache, up to 5.0Ghz w/Turbo Boost)
Windows 10 Home 64bit, English, Dutch, French, German, Italian
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2080 8GB GDDR6 (OC Ready)
Lunar Light
17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz Anti-Glare IPS Display w/ NVIDIA G-SYNC + Tobii eyetracking technology
Killer N1550 Wireless driver
8GB, 2x4GB, DDR4, 2400MHz
256GB PCIe M.2 SSD
180W Power Adapter and 330W Power Adapter
Got it all for £2400 give or take a few quid.
CPU wise I wanted a 8700K (and delid it) but they don't supply them, thinking of maybe selling the 9900K if it's too hot and go through the 8700K route as it will overclocker better and be cooler.... hmmmc69k likes this. -
Delidding the 9900k is much harder than the its predecessor.

I'm looking to buy a new killer gaming rig and the new AW Area 51M looks like it's ticking all the boxes for me.
I have some questions thou, hopefully they are easy to answer...
1. How is the fan noise on the 51M and have AW solved their heat issues?
2. For 1080p gaming, are there any reason to chose 9900 over 9700 and 2080 over 2070?
3. As above, does 9900/2080 generate a lot more heat than 9700/2070?carlodelmazo likes this. -

2. No reason to get i9 for gaming, even "killer gaming" won't benefit
RTX 2080 will probably get you to the 144 FPS required to benefit most from the 144HZ display in many games.
3. No one has one yet, but probably. On the other hand getting an RTX 2070 will probably net you a weaker heatsink. -

Still trying to decide. . .the lenovo y740 is really well priced compared to the others with a 2080max q. And I've heard they make reliable laptops. But, I still have my 1080 ti so a m15 with a graphics amp might be good since I plan on using whatever laptop I get at my desktop.captn.ko likes this. -

I wasn't implying there is no side exhaust in this new design, in fact there is but it's reserved for the 'highest-end configs' & denied to 'entry' configs ... whatever that formula is
- there is a basic 7pipe (AlienTube tear-down vid)
- China vid said they had an '8'pipe' w/out side exhaust
- '8'pipe w/ side exhaust was at CES
@Papusan pic above w/ 7pipes; pipe#6 is just extra long & because it is I do not wish to call the elongated part the so-called '8th' pipe; I call it the 7XL (7-extra-long / 7-extended) & if it has side exhaust then a 7XL+
(narrator: flip that sucker over & u see '8' majik pipes)
If I simplify this & re-label that extra-long GPU pipe as #7 (right pic) our heatsink (left) reduces to 6.5 pipes once we realize, indeed --> half of it's missing --> the good half! So yes, 6.5 pipes becomes 7 when u order the right configuration
7 becomes 8 >< 6.5 becomes 7
'8' pipes is Alien Marketing BS (padding their bra / stuffing a sock down their shorts as always); Jedi mind trick, a pipe-dream, language-game & their attempt at a 'construct' ... it's the kool-aid I'm resisting :/
That China vid said the 9700k 2070 gets '8'pipes w/out side exhaust; that extra-long pipe #6 puts the cooling emphasis on the 2070 GPU, where we'd assume the 2080 gets side exhaust on top of it. My hope is that 9700k 2080 buyers qualify as one of the highest-end configs & from there we might wonder what 8700/2080 buyers will get since 8700 is 'entry' CPU
If there are two fan assemblies, then I'd say that Dellware would like to ship the null-assembly to some buyers (as a cost-cut) & sell the side-exhaust assembly after-sale to those who covet it - or - same practice if there are three HS variants (ship Levels 1 / 2 as cost-cut & sell u Level 3 later), all of which is business-as-usual but it'd be nice to know upfront what their formula is outside of 9900k/2080 gets the best, 8700/2060 (2070?) gets the not-best & some intermediate config like 9700k/2070 might get the 7XL- (no side exhaust) --> 7- 7XL- 7XL+ <--

^^ There's no spoon... 7 pipes with 2 shared ones can look like 8 if you flip it over. The devil is in the details.

Man all this talk about the Y740 led me to research it a bit. Seems to be far ahead of the competition in terms of price... They have 20-25% off for military/teachers/students/etc as well. It would be a huge performance hit between the i7-9700k/9900k and i7-8750h and 2080 vs Max-Q, but wow.
Its screen is also 144 gsync with Dolby Vision HDR, plus thin bezel. Super tempted. Gonna sleep on that, the MSI Trident X mini desktop, and the fate of my Area-51m order. Decisions decisions!
edit: Lenovo has an amazing return policy and very functional website... Even their chat sales was legit. Ended up ordering the 2080maxQ 17" y740. Came out to about $2k USD with 3 years warranty+accidental. Should be here within a week... Then I'll see about cancelling the Area-51m. I almost ordered the 2060 variant since it came out to about $1400.Last edited: Feb 11, 2019 -
During CES presentation Azor said that the Area51m supports XMP profiles... i cant believe that i can order 32gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3800 SODIMM CL18 and run it at full speed with xmp...

ok, fun aside... what do you guys think will be the max ram clock we can run? The 3800 32 kit is cheaper than the 3000mhz kit... lol... maybe the faster Kit can run better timings at lower clocks than the slower kits?
the cheapest 2666mhz kit ( 32GB (2x16GB) Crucial DDR4-2666 SO-DIMM CL19 ) is 229 euros and i ordered the 32GB (4x8GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3800 SODIMM CL18 kit for 257 euros... i think 30 euros is worth a test what the A51m can handleLast edited: Feb 11, 2019 -
If I understand correctly, 2400 is what we can run now and 2666 is coming in future BIOS update. And, that's it! Nothing more for us

Hey hey, would you be able to give me some guidance on how to get 3000/3200mhz to work on the 6820hk? So far you are one out of 2 users that i've seen able to achieve 3000mhz or higher, the other user was using the evga sc17 laptop. -

Re weight; GE75 is lighter than y740 and has non-maxq 2080 in it that can be OCed upto about 28000 score in firestrike graphics score.Last edited: Feb 11, 2019Vistar Shook likes this. -
You can count the pipes this way as well outside need to flipp the HS over. Just coun't pipes on each part of the unified heatsink (cpu-gpu).
