How is the rtx 2080 conected to the pcie3.0, is it x16 or only x8 like in the R17 because of needed lanes for the graphics amplifier? Can someone with the machine verify in gpu-Z?

I guess the lack of information is good and bad. The good is if the numbers were atrocious and people were suffering overheating they would be here complaining so it seems that people are happily gaming away. The bad is those of us still waiting are ....... well waiting.

I settled on the i7-8700 because of my concerns of possible overheating.

Well i just have word of the return for my Alienware 51M.

There coming to pick it up Tomorrow.
    Problems for my unit.

    - backlightbleeding top left and top right. (Could have lived with only that.)
    - dead pixels, 3 in a row on the left side of the screen, they were visible after a few days. ****ty panels like always with Dell.
    - scratches on the bezel from the screen from the factory out. What the hell!
    - humming sound from the right fan on 50% speed. Looked like it is out of balance. The chassis is resonating when you put you hand on it. (Temps are fine though.)

Support told me the best option was to ask for a refund. The only problem they found adequate enough were the scratches on the bezel. Other option was sending the unit to their repair depot.

First time i’ve had bad customer experience with Dell. My AW17r5 has been swapped 3 times without any hustle. Especialy screen problems, loads of pixel problems, seems i attract them...

Maybe Dell is budgeting support? I’ve asked to put my complaint to the customer service, now i have to wait for the money to return and re-order the unit. Thats like a months wait atleast.

Maybe they will give me a Nice discount. Would be nice. Think i’m going for the i9 the next time to seeing there are no overheating problems and the price difference is small.

For now, signing out and going to play a month with my trustworthy 17r5.

I also found it a bit weird that QHD is not offered on the 51M.

I’m a bit torn on whether that’s important for me or not.

I like the 1440p in general, but there can be quite a performace hit compared to 1080p, and on a 17-inch screen the difference is minimal.

I don’t want to feel that I ”settled” if there’s a QHD around the corner, so what to think?

Hardly any other brand offers anything else than 1080p or 4K. Could it be that AW just dropped the QHD for this model?

I'll have most of these for y'all when I get mine...

QHD should be coming. Issue is, it's a thin bezel display. According to Frank Azor, the reason is, there are no thin bezel panels available yet.

    - Display backlight bleeding? - A little bit on top corners but acceptable.
    - Panel OC - Why should i do that with a 144Hz Display?
    - Undervolting - Atm its possible to undervolt only CPU. (-0.150V max. but a little bit unstable with 9700K)
    - Overclocking - GPU + 150Mhz Core, +200Mhz(maximum on AW CC Slider), CPU is stable on 5Ghz if you want and need
    - Game benches and temps - I just play BF5 atm and there are much pics from me + hwinfo
    - pch temps - ~50°C after 5 hours running.
    - new AWCC features - dont know, had old 3.6 Alienware Command Center for AW18
    - high res pics + videos - I think there are much videos and pics made from 51m. I dont think you really need a video from me playing BF5 :D

There are so many posts from me and others with pics in this thread. You just have to search for yourself ;)

Hmmm. Makes me even more unsure if now is the right moment to order a 51M. I have a 8700K/GTX 1080 Clevo, so I am really in a position to wait if that gives me a better spec.

i think we have a different definition of ,,stable,, i havent seen a´single prime or at least CBr15 run @5ghz with stable clocks yet.

most of them are very superficial.

    great!

thats what i mean with superficial. What is acceptable to you, does not have to be for others ;) a non overexposured pic in a dark room would be perfect to see the reality ^^

yeah but every display is not the same and has different backlight bleed. And if i accept this on my panel, you need to do that with yours. Makes no sense for me xD

the last generations the display mount was too tight. Most IPS panels (4K bleed was horrible) had similar bleed. If we see a few pictures, we can guess what we can expect.

Mine has very little bleed. Far better than the Razer Blade pro 120hz panel I also have

I am terrible with photography so I am not going to attempt to photo it as it wouldn't be representative of real life.

Azor stated at CES that the reason why these and all other slim bezel 17 inch RTX laptops are using 1080p 144Hz screens is that they were the only screens available for the thin bezel design. Alienware and everyone else are waiting on the panel manufacturers to start building higher res screens that will fit into these smaller footprint designs.

Pretty much none of the US users on here that ordered them have received them yet.

They keep getting dicked around by Dell and constantly having to cancel and re-submit orders or are being told their laptop will ship in the next 2-3 days to then get a message saying they won't get their laptops until March. This is why you aren't seeing a whole lot.

This debacle is why I have decided not to order one at all as of now. Was ordering thru Xotic PC until they posted that instead of the end of February they will not be receiving their stock to even begin their custom builds until the end of March now.

I thought that was the case, I think a lot of US users are expecting them today? Unless thats been pushed back due to these delays. I want to buy now but its the potential of a QHD screen thats making me hold back.

1080p is probably more than enough for me but I like the idea of QHD.

I had originally said that I wouldn't consider buying one until higher res screens were available due to the fact that you are significantly CPU bound at 1080p with the RTX 2080 and somewhat so on the RTX2070. They are designed for 1440p and 4k. Watched a video on the GT75 Titan with a 8950HK, 2080, and 1080p 144Hz screen. The highest GPU utilization he saw in the time he was benchmarking was about 70-75 percent.

I changed my mind when I saw the price on Xotic's website. They originally had the 9700k with the 2080 listed for 2899.00 (it is now 3049.00) and only a 200.00 charge to upgrade to the 9900k. I could have ordered it with pretty much all the bells and whistles (9900k, 32gb RAM, minimal light bleed, calibrated, etc...) for less than Dell wants for their stock 9900k, 2080, 32gb RAM option.

Then I changed my mind again with all the delays happening. Just going to ride out my 1070 a while longer until everything gets sorted.

Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I ordered mine shortly after the announcement. I talked to Dell yesterday and it is supposed to ship today. Due to the weather (Their Facility in Tennessee to my door in Ohio) and other issues it is looking less and less likely.

Can you pls check how the rtx 2080 is connected to the pcie. Does it use the full pcie3.0 16x? or is it just 8x; gpuz will show it correctly when gpu stress test is started

These are the only replies I saw re: where is 1440p / 4k
    [IMG]
    9minutes ago
    [IMG]
If Intel releases Gen10 later this year, 1440p 4k may be a new option only for 51m R2

Nvidia RTX 3000 in (late) 2019?
    3070 / 3080 DGFF R1 upgrade > 1080p | R2 stock 1440p 4k?

If u can't get your 1080 screen swapped (tweet above), future (pricey proprietary) DGFF RTX 3000 will drive it @ 1080 also

R2 could roll in w/ new CPU + new screen options + RTX 2000 later this year then transition to RTX 3000 (Jan/Feb '21) mid-production

    FINALLY!! HERE IT IS!

    Photos:
    https://imgur.com/a/uiUHjgk

Will post more later today, currently am at work, battery seems to be depleted.
+ I will receive tomorrow my 1TB 970 Pro and 4TB 860 Evo so will also take the backplate off and post pictures of that.

    First impression:
    - Normally I don't like 17 inch laptops, feels clunky due to being larger, but this one feels premium, feels like a beast. Very solid look and feel. Better than expected
    - The lunar white is not white, it's more like a greyish tone. But is nice nontheless.
    - For such a large beast The weight is good, It has heft to it, but not too heavy feels balanced considering what's in there.

    Overall great 1st impression.

Thanks!! Best pics I have seen of the Lunar Light from a user. Color is beginning to grow on me.

I was going to call in, but honestly at this point I feel like it's not worth bothering. Although, if it gets delayed again then I'll cancel and wait it out. I don't have any gaming PCs at the moment, but I can limp along for a few months.

Are there no keyboard vents? In other words, there shouldn't be any issue running an external monitor with the laptop closed, correct?

A shame. The only thing really holding me back from buying this is the panel at this point.

Just wondering, can you negotiate prices with HIDevolution or that's only with Dell?

Hello, how is everyone today? I got DHL tracking global freight tracking information, G-976969. This bulk freight, from the production facility in China has cleared customs in Los Angeles last night and is now on route this morning to the carriers to be assigned individual shipping labels and then to be shipped out to their owners. There are over 100 laptops in this freight, so hopefully one of them is yours and you will be receiving your Area 51m soon.
