I'm pretty happy with mine. Only niggle is that the Tobii eye tracker doesn't work with Windows hello. Tobii say it's an Alienware decision. Seems a bit daft as it worked well on my R4

Yep, this is what Kay from Tobii technical support sent me:

    "Hi Leo,

    Unfortunately, this is by design.
Windows hello feature is not supported on this device."

This screenshot looks impressive but doesn't tell the whole story.

    A few things.

    1) You are essentially running it @~100W (undervolted)
    2) There are two shared heat pipes, meaning that the GPU heatsink is helping a lot.
    3) How long did you run it for?
    4) Environment? Room temp, repasted, elevated back, coolerpad?

There is only 1 shared heat pipe on all the shipped versions do far. And it is a thin one. See a few pages back for comparison pics.

Pretty sure I've seen two versions posted here yesterday. Even if it's just one 6-8mm pipe, that could be up to 20-30W dissipation boost. It definitely helps when CPU or GPU is loaded in isolation. Rendering and/or de/encoding projects would benefit greatly. But what happens when we stress both CPU and GPU?

Quick update on my US order for other folks still waiting for shipment (ordered 1/9 for 2/20 arrival then pushed to 2/28 - 3/5). After getting more run around from Dell customer support via chat who still not knowing about the backend team fixing the power cord mess and insist I call order modification, again. I contacted @DellCares on twitter and was told that my order has been shipped to Dell HQ for distribution via courier from that point.

"Thank you for your patience. We did have some mix-ups during the pre-production period. But as it stands now, the computer is already being shipped to our HQ for subsequent distribution via our selected courier. As it stands now, the order should arrive between February 28th and March 5th. As shown here: <removed url> From this point on, there shouldn't be any further delays."

When I queried why it was going to take 8 to 13 days to get to me given expedited shipment I got the following response:

"The expedited delivery is taken into account once it is ready for shipping to your end. Not for the time it takes our assembly to configure the computer and get it ready and sent to our HQ. Those are completely independent and there's no extra or hidden fee to expedite the assembly. The computer will be ready when the parts are ready."

Still does not explain if the computer is built and ready to send to me why it could take so long, I'm not sure I believe they have completed the build at this point and it's a stall tactic. Also don't get why they don't drop ship direct from China like Lenovo and others. Last Lenovo I ordered was drop shipped from China and took 2 days to get to me.

Curse you Newegg! I picked the supersaver 4-7 day shipping! Not the 2 business day!

Seriously when you're not in a hurry to get something it comes quickly.

I have the same exact pack at home just ready to rumble, do you think to install windows in the Evo? I think should Evo would be faster than the by default sent by dell, but I haven’t seen any benchmarks of the dell ssd

I haven't decided yet. I got the 256ssd from dell. I may just keep that as my os drive. I also have a 2tb firecuda going into the 2.5" bay.

I've heard you don't need windows os to install on a new drive? So if you put in a fresh drive and take out the old one it's on the motherboard? Worse case I have a windows 10 usb drive. So I can just install it that way.

The Windows 10 license key is likely stored in the BIOS/flash memory on the motherboard and you will need to install Windows 10 from your USB key. This was how the last couple of laptops have been for me, makes it easy to install Windows 10 on a bigger, faster drive for sure.

hi everyone im new here but i wanted to give some input, going to make it as short and simple as i can. I placed my order on 14th of Jan and constantly checked for updates. As of Feb 19th my order was still "confirmed". I called Dell and they stated it was delayed but would not tell me when it would be shipped, i insisted i wanted a date or would cancel my order and they stated it would ship sat Feb 23rd and should receive it Monday or Tuesday. I called today because i received an email this morning stating that i wont receive it now until Feb 28th to March 5th and complained stating i am leaving on a business trip this weekend and i need the laptop as promised or im canceling my order immediately. Lady stated they have no records of what the other guy told me of laptop shipping on the 19th or records of when i called but she can push the order and will be shipped on Monday Feb 25th and i should receive it on Feb 28th. I thanked her but stated its unacceptable they have no record of the gentleman that helped me and told me i would receive it on Monday the 25th and they ended up giving me $75 for the inconvenience (and as stated receiving it by 28th). Basically you have to be hard on them because unfortunately they lie quite a bit. Also i did not get off the phone with the lady until i received the email confirmation with the $75 im going to get as compensation (due to trust issues i have had where they say something but do not send proof and deny they said anything). Purpose of me writing this is to hopefully help some of you guys with same issues. I hope this helps.

Is this with the latest BIOS installed? 136w might be sustained load not peak. Try and run that test for 30 mins straight and see if it stays at the clocks/power.

Nice! Wish things had been a bit smoother but good to see a response on this. Also noticed that the option to cancel my order online is no longer available suggesting shipment, my credit card payment remains in pending state however. Guess we wait for FedEx/UPS/DHL tracking numbers now.

I have my area 51m and I am typing on it right now. It so far is pretty badass. Here is a stock firestrike without touching a thing. I've spent the last hour and change installing a new m.2 ssd and copying over the old hard drive. I have 4tb of ssd in this bad boy now. The bottom panel is a pain to take off and put back on but the thermals seems to be great so far.

lol euphoric. This is a loaded question:

What size is an M.2 SSD? (the kind we’re putting in the 51m)

    That should answer your question!

Haha yes. They look really, really similar, if not identical.

I’d be willing to bet the difference in part number may be because of the thermal pads used in each. But that’s just a wild guess!

Doesn’t matter to me though. Luckily the pads are 1 mm, so I’ll be using some Fujipoly I have .

It seems I can't squeeze a decent cinebench score out of the 9700k. It doesn't thermal throttle at 4800mhz but the power limit dumps performance. 1233 multi threaded score on r15.

I'm actually going to buy a 9900k and try it out. I think it would play well with hyper threading. The cpu is more than enough for any gaming load which is why they power limited it. It just sucks that it can't stretch it's legs. I think the 8700k is most likely the sweet spot for this laptop but the RTX 2080 sings at 1080p 144hz.

It seems to me that the 9900k has trouble stretching its legs on my desktop (z370 board) between heat and drawing a crap-ton of power at 5ghz

What is your Watt consumption in HWinfo? A recent screenshot showed 136W, which is more than enough to score more than that

Have you updated to the latest BIOS?

Have you tried any voltage tuning?

I have not updated to the latest bios. I'm unsure as to my power draw. I have undervolted by -.1mv it is at 4.8ghz 1.3v. Ive been at work and trying it out when i get home ill tinker more. I'm weary about a bios update. Is it good so far?
