Niceee. Didn't even know we got Division 2, nice addition. Glad it's a key though so I can sell it. As for the Black ops 4, Dell said it would be sent in an email after you set up your machine, but I've yet to see anyone claim they got it. So idk..

Anyone confirmed if the Alienware Vindicator 17" Backpack v2.0 fits the Area 51-M?
Edit: Nevermind, just spoke with Ted from HIDevolution and he said it won't fit. This is the one which fits:

Very clean in that color option.
Very clean set up. Kudos.
Right on. It's nice to see you around here @Darkhan. Hope all has been well.
Great choice. That's exactly what I'm going to do in swapping in the delidded 8086K of mine.
I run Samsung 970 PRO and EVO in varies systems of mine and they run very cool without any temp issues.
Hey @Johnksss good to hear from you. Yup I remember... Good times with the Asus laptops. It is pretty sad to see how others have no issues releasing their vbios when the flagship of AW still falls short eh? However, to be fair we have word of updates so that's good... Hope all is well brother. -

It fits fine but the laptop is a bit deeper than my 17r1. The frame is more squared and it will push the top edges of the backpack a bit. It's not very noticeable but it may bother you if you want your stuff on point.

Yeah I spoke with Ted from HIDevolution again after your comment and he said:
So I will stick with this one: Alienware Area-51m Elite - Laptop carrying backpack - 17.3-inch - black, dark gray -
I bought that one too and it's what i use for the 51m. It's huge tho and i worry about the durability. Looks nice so thats a plusSpartan@HIDevolution likes this.

Will be interesting to see if all 128GB ram is being addressed in the system.

That's a good idea. I'll look into Macrium for a backup.
A whole different ballpark IMO. I finally got my Clevo fan curve set up good, with decent fan noise versus low enough heat to not throttle. At the same temps the 51M is much more quiet.
I'll do a fresh install later today, I'll let you know what happens and if I run into problem.Richard Bortz likes this. -
So maybe I should hold on and wait for my 51m to be delivered =)

Anyone knows how to enable windows hello using the tobii eye tracking? When I go to the windows hello settings it says that It cannot set it up for this device, I assume it cannot fine any device compatible for windows hello. As far as I know tobii eye tracker supports windows hello

Unfortunately the Area-51M doesn't support windows hello. I already contacted tobii and AW about this.Vasudev likes this.

If fan noise is your main concern, you should definitely test the 51M. It has by far the best fan profile I heard in a gaming laptop.alaskajoel, Richard Bortz and DannyB513 like this.

On the whole ram speed issue, would it bring any actual real life benefits to buy 2666mhz ram over 2400mhz?
As I understand it, even 32gb vs 16gb won't really matter much for gaming? -
I bought a 2666mhz kit because it was like $10 more than a 2400mhz kit. And they say they may have a bios update to support it later. So I figured why not?
You really don't need more than 16gb unless you're doing something that needs it like CAD, video editing, or anything else that would basically be your job. Or maybe if you're gaming on a 8k monitor or something along those lines.SlickDragon likes this. -
Apparently Asus did this before the 2080....
I only mentioned it because I ask Frank for a 250W version, why only move from the opening 180W to the released 190W to the updated 200W in April. In all honesty, these gpus are all on par with each other. And can be ran on as little as .850mV and max out the watts.
Although what I do not like about the A51M is the fact that you have to have 2 adapters to play a game. I hope they fix that.
And all is well! Thanks for asking. Hope and trust the same goes for you. -
I would recommend downloading and running something like memtest86 or memtest86+. Non-paged area faults are sometimes a sign of a DIMM going bad.

For general usage the difference is minimal. If you use memory intensive apps then that speed will help you, because 5-10GB/s of added speed at same voltage in dual channel mode is really helpful. Then again, 2667MHz are made from Samsung B die(even Micron/crucial,sk hynix) aka 1Y DRAM which promises 10-15% performance increase at 40% power savings.
-
Oh yes you do. You pay $4,000 and cannot run a game and two browsers?
Hmm I have the very sneaky suspicion that something is terribly wrong with the motherboard that they had to limit the RAM down to 2400MHz to keep it stable. Just a hunch. -
I have no clue...

With x50 you should go though the steps.
Cause
Bug check 0x50 can occur after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware ( usually related to defective RAM, be it main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM).
Another possible cause is the installation of a faulty system service or faulty driver code.
Antivirus software can also trigger this error, as can a corrupted NTFS volume.
Resolution
Gather Information
Examine the name of the driver if that was listed on the blue screen.
Check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing the error. For more information, see Open Event Viewer. Look for critical errors in the system log that occurred in the same time window as the blue screen.
Windows Memory Diagnostics
Run the Windows Memory Diagnostics tool, to test the memory. Click the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Memory, and then click Diagnose your computer's memory problems. After the test is run, use Event viewer to view the results under the System log. Look for the MemoryDiagnostics-Results entry to view the results.
Resolving a faulty hardware problem: If hardware has been added to the system recently, remove it to see if the error recurs. If existing hardware has failed, remove or replace the faulty component. You should run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owner's manual for your computer.
Resolving a faulty system service problem: Disable the service and confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer of the system service about a possible update. If the error occurs during system startup, investigate the Windows repair options. For more information, see Recovery options in Windows 10.
Resolving an antivirus software problem: Disable the program and confirm that this resolves the error. If it does, contact the manufacturer of the program about a possible update.
Resolving a corrupted NTFS volume problem: Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and repair disk errors. You must restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. Contact the manufacture of the hard driver system to locate any diagnostic tools that they provide for the hard drive sub system.Last edited: Mar 2, 2019SlickDragon and DannyB513 like this. -
Can you open it up and resit the RAM a few times?
-
Are you referring to both Intel HD Graphics and RTX 2080 being on at the same time?
I wonder why that is as with their previous G-SYNC models, the iGPU was completely disabled. -
No. Only the 200W TDP.
-
Oh I just realize what you meant by "2 adapters" LOL
Yeah it's kind of dumb that something like 9700K + 2080 or less can't be used on a single 330w. I'm fairly confident the 330w can handle a gaming load.
Maybe I'll open mine up tonight and just take a peek
Last edited: Mar 2, 2019 -
Single 330W seems to drop the fps down to a max of 40fps from say 160fps.SlickDragon likes this.

Who keeps telling people this?? It is simply not true
No, you only need 1 330W adapter to play pretty much any game out today near max settings above 45 FPS @ 1080p.
If you are gaming at more than 1080p... you are connected to a monitor at a desk and will (should) be using both adapters. If you are benching, you should be using both adapters.
No game out today (with a select few) uses the full power of even a GTX 1080 @ 1080p
The simple Maths:
If you have the RTX 2080 + i9 CPU, a single 330W adapter will prioritize the CPU and the GPU will get the leftovers. With the 119/126W sustained limit on the CPU, the GPU gets a good amount of leftovers.
TDLR
Take a look at Notebookcheck's list of benchmarks for the RTX 2080 (notebook), and take a look at the FPS @ 1080p
https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-2080-Laptop-Graphics-Card.384931.0.html
Now take about 25-30% off those #s, and that is what you will likely get with one 330W adapterTerreos likes this. -

This appeared after my rant lol
If this is true, then there may be a firmware limitation with 1 adapter? Which goes totally against this statement from page 5 of the manual!!!!!!!:
"NOTE: Your computer ships with two power adapters, and it will operate normally with one power adapter connected . For maximum gaming performance, it is recommended to connect two adapters. Only use adapters supplied with your device, or Dell-approved adapters to power your device."
https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/alienware-17-area51m-laptop_setup-guide_en-us.pdf
Still: 40FPS should be smooth enough with G-Sync for most on the go cases.
But if they are indeed limiting it; that is a
travesty And simply plain stupid! Why limit it's mobility?SlickDragon, Papusan and Johnksss like this. -
Edit: Glad I refreshed the screen first. LOL
Has to be, because it wasn't even using more than 250W at the time.
Or, the PSU is Max 330W and not RMS 330W, making it more like 275W or so RMS watts. Speculations of course.
I tested that 40FPS on my Clevo and you know what happen??? It got me killed a bunch of times!
That lag was killing me!

We are talking AAA titles at ULTRA settings right?
Not something like Overwatch? In which case the problem may be an FPS cap of some-type, which is rotten.
Can you screenshot your watt usage in HWINFO? -
I don't have one at the moment. That was one I just jumped on for a few. If or when I get my hands on another one, i'll be a bit more through. That PSU thing caught me totally off guard though for the first 10 minutes.
Straight noob error on my part I gather.

The TB3 port video output is hardwired to the iGPU, even with a GSync equipped model. It was the same way on all past Alienware models with a TB3 port. -
No, don't. If you look closely at the DC power connector it has a very thin middle pin. There are electronics inside the PSU that tell the laptop what adapter this is, eg genuine Dell and how many watts. There is a web link where this investigation has been done by others down to detailing the NVRAM chip inside the adapter. I am not aware of a technique that you can fool the laptop with a 3rd party PSU.

I think you may have quoted the wrong post? Not what @ssj92 is talking about at all.
Nonetheless this is indeed true. I have tried using different PSUs on my first AW 13 R2 before and it wouldn't charge. However a nearly 10 year old Dell adapter did, so they have been doing this for a long time it seems.
