Yup , I have a apple thunderbolt display, had to run through iGPU to game using my AW 13 R3 + Titan X GPU

I was referring to internal display having both nVidia GPU & iGPU shown in device manager.
I meant opening the laptop out of the box. It's still sealed sitting here waiting for me

I'll get to the bottom of this 330w single vs 330w+180w PSU thing and see how much it downclocks. I have i9-9900K + RTX 2080 model.

Has anyone posted results between the 9700k and 9900k with hyperthreading disabled. It was brought up towards the beginning of the thread and could provide some knowledge with those making a decision between these two cpus that split workloads or multipurpose their systems. Thanks in advance.

I'll add this to my list of testing. As far as I know BIOS 1.20 supports HT on/off I believe.

Will you be adding links to your tests? I’m assuming they’ll be on YouTube? If so, what’s your YouTube channel name so I can subscribe. I need all the info/guidance I can get with this laptop lol...

I'm going to make lots of videos on this. I'll start with an unboxing video and from that video I link you can subscribe. Also gives me an opportunity to see what the quality is like using a 9 year old DSLR lol.

I'll edit first post with some videos. I'll see maybe I'll make my own little thread with the results.

This is what I'm working with lol

If I order the Alienware Area 51-M, this is the backpack I will be getting which is guaranteed to fit since it was made for it:

So guys, anyone with the 9900K care to share the temps and if the machine is able to run the CPU at its advertised clocks or is it thermal throttling like heck?

I went on and got the Dell one that they made specifically for it.. that way I don’t have to worry about running the risk of space/protection.
It’s cavernous as hell, I’ll tell you now.. plenty of hideaway deep pockets and it looks internally sound on the protective side. You can never go wrong with a nice thing of bubble wrap though lol.

So my 51m's will be arriving Monday or Tuesday (9700k/2070.) Anyone have a list of things to check for/test when it arrives? I plan on pushing the power as far as I can go and testing thermals. If thermals aren't too great I'll be repasting with kryonaut.

Also, anyone figure out how to redeem BO4 yet?

Dammit, what is it with my luck today.
After the first bluscreen in the morning (it happened when I left the pc locked and left)
, after a while websites started to half load, had to hit refresh in order for them to load properly.

And now Wanted to play metro exodus, FPS counter shows >50 (on my 4k monitor), but it's almost like 1 frame a second. Suddenly pc restarted itself. Event viewer shows 2 things.
    Error:
    Source: volmgr
    eventID: 161
    Qualifiers: 49156
    Level: 2
    Keywords: 0x80000000000000
    EventData
    \Device\HarddiskVolume6

Followed by a critical event Kernel Power with bugcheckcode: 278
    And parameter: 0xffffc982e03b6480

After restart I immediately started metro exodus angain same issue, Only this time I closed metro exodus with alt+f4. but pc was reacting the same, 1 frame a second. Although my mouse was still moving normally, apart from that everything VERY slow.

Didn't wait too long, and had a blue-screen:
On event viewer had the exact same volmgr error, but the Critical event kernel power was this time with BugCheckCode 59 with parameters:
    0xc0000005
    0xfffff802680fdf0b
    0xffff868a9011e1a0

    And the bluescreen says:
    SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
    ntoskrnl.exe, nvlddmkm.sys

    Damn, what is this crap.
Hope it's not related to the samsung 970 pro I put in.

EDIT: Seems like the metro issue has to do with DX12, I suppose it's simply instability of the game itself. DAMMIT. gave me a heart attack

    Hey guys,

I'm in the market for one of these (UK)
I'll mostly be using it for video editing and rendering in after effects, can anyone tell me in that case if the 9900k would be worth it over the 9700k?

Anyone know if a 1440p screen is on the horizon?

The 2080 is £349 more but in benchmarks online it's only 15% faster? Is it worth just getting the 2070 and saving money? I'd want whatever I get to be faster than a 8750h and a gtx1070

Lastly, I've had some major trouble getting a discount on one of these from Dell this time around. Could always get around 15% in the past. Anyone got any tips or reps emails I could get in touch with?

    Thank you

My local MicroCenter has a couple of A51's in stock as of this morning, but they don't have one on display yet, which sucks.

    It's the 9700K / 2070 / 16Gb / 512Gb model for $2899.

They also have the MSI GE75 Raider with 8750H / 2080 / 32GB / 2 x 512Gb (!) for $2749. Which, naturally, they also don't have on display. They also have the GE75 with the same specs as the AW (not the CPU, obviously, but 2070/16/512) for $1999, which makes the AW an even harder sell.

I've been following the threads here for both machines pretty closely, and I'm struggling to see what the AW really brings to the table to justify so much more money. I mean, I get it: desktop CPU, theoretical upgrade path, different class of machine with the AW being more of a DTR like one of the big Clevos ... but still. They're asking for a lot of $$$ compared to the competition.

I guess first things first I have to decide firmly whether I want a desktop replacement or something more portable. But the thought of dropping nearly 4 grand on this thing when I could buy the GE75 and nicely update my desktop rig (4790K/1080) is tough to swallow.

I guess each system is different. I play Metro exodus with DX12 on ultra settings and no issues on my 13r3 with AGA. I would think your system should have no issues handling DX12

Hope it IS related to the 970 pro. The alternative is that it is related to your motherboard, or memory. You need to decide quick before you lose the ability to return for refund.

Try setting Metro Exodus to use DX11 instead and see if the problems go away or improve. DX12 is a known crap API, and performance can be hit or miss using DX12.

It was DX 12 on Metro exodus. Nothing to worry.

Just like you said. it's DX 12 issues with Metro exodus, damn unstable game

Well it didn't have until so far. Suddenly it has issues. Don't know what it is. But it seems like I'm not the only one with DX12 issues on this game. LOTS of people have all kinds of issues and crashes with DX12 on Metro exodus it seems like.
And of course, My GPU isn't the same as yours.

The notebook RTX gpu's only just released.

Actually, it's not an unstable game, just an unstable API (DX12). Metro Exodus plays as smooth as silk on my desktop, without so much as a hiccup on anything. Many find it super stable, but many others have had an experience similar to yours. If you find it runs well using DX11, then it's pretty safe to point the finger at DX12. It may be some folks have something buggered up with their Windows 10 installation that manifests in DX12 instability. Hard to say. But, the RTX and DLSS features add nothing to the game and I find the experience playing Exodus on Windows 7 with DX11 absolutely outstanding and with no discernible difference to when I boot into Windows 10 and play it with RTX and DLSS enabled (on the same system) other than a diminished framerate. So, just enjoy the game if it plays well in DX11 mode and don't burn any calories trying to figure out why DX12 is an unstable pile of crap.

The above scenario applies exactly the same to BFV. Plays flawlessly under DX12 with RTX and DLSS enabled on my desktop, but we know that many unhappy gamers have found it to be a hot mess. DX12 is the lowest common denominator... that wonderful poopalicious Windows OS X abortion.

When I ordered my system through HID I asked Donald when they would be getting more in stock (9700k and 9900k, they had the 8700 in stock when i called) and when he told me in a couple of weeks I asked why they were getting them so much faster than Xotic (HID have already been building and shipping them). I had talked with Xotic first and was told that no reseller would be getting stock until the end of March at the earliest.

Donald told me that HID had already been getting stock and were getting more stock faster due to HID being an Authorized Alienware Reseller.

It even shows right at the top of HID's website that they are an Authorized Build to Order Reseller and shows the brands they are authorized for: Alienware, Aorus, Asus, Dell, Evoc, Gigabyte, Lenovo, and MSi. This has been on their website for years, I think Umar is full of poop when speaking about HID.

    Let's talk about this!!!
Let me just put this here..
Hey Umar & Azor... Let's just yea play stupid..

Oh and let's break this down just a bit..

    Set your pipe inches to any number you like, such that extra-long 4 & 7/8 = p7 x 2
    Ex.: I've set 5" & 10" pipes, you may use 4" 8", 6" 12" etc

    Raw Inches: 7pipe 31" - CES 24.5" = 6.5" extra pipe

    6mm vs 8mm Pipes:

    P4: 33% wider (8:6 > 4:3 = 4 / 3 = 1.333)
    P5: 15% longer
    P6: 5% longer
    P7 P8: 200% longer & 150% more copper vs 8mm 5" p7

P7 P8, the so-called '8th Fake Pipe', is the real pipe in question since it's missing

    Arbitrarily Set p7 = 5" 8mm | P7 P8 = 10" 6mm

If P7 P8 were 4mm wide they'd be identical in mass to the half-as-long p7 8mm, but they're 6mm so they're superior to p7 in copper mass regardless it is wider because they're double-length & that matters (P7 P8 are also plumbed into both fin stacks & both fans = 'a paper advantage' over p7):

    10 x 6 = 60 | 8 x 5 = 40 | 6/4 = 1.5x the copper

    In your mind, 'cut' the 6mm 10" P7 P8 in half & fold it over on itself: now it is = to a pair of 6mm 5" pipes = 12mm of pipes = 1.5x the p7 (8mm x 1.5 = 12mm)

In your mind, 'melt' P7 P8 down & recast it into an 8mm pipe: how long will it be? --> 60 / 8 = 7.5"

    Rather, it is 1.5x the length of the 5" p7 so it's 7.5" long (5 x 1.5 = 7.5)

An equivalent 7.5" 8mm pipe P7 is superior to a 5" 8mm pipe p7, all day every day

All said & done, if u truly math this out as I have (but did not include here), if we melt the CES Rev3 HS down & recast it into a new heatsink, you'd get everything the Rev3 has but there is still enough copper left for another full equivalent 8mm pipe

Remember Raw Inches = 6.5" extra? Yes, you could make an extra 5" 8mm pipe from it: Rev3 CES truly is a not-so-fake 8piper

'wider' copper 'longer' copper 'more' copper = 12watt 'reduction' in performance (?!)

Or maybe they coded firmware the way MSI did for their older gaming notebooks. Reserve some PSU capacity for any battery charging. The way MSI tuned firmware... Max use of the PSU kicked in only when the battery run empty due the Battery boost and the charge cycle started up. The power adapter started then use even more power from the wall than the psu's specs. Never full psu capacity when you used the notebook on AC and full battery.

I wouldn't trust any laptop power supply to run at full load anyways. They get hot as hell not running full tilt. Now a good desktop PSU that is gold rated and above, I might trust running full load, but never on these cheaply made Chinese laptop power supplies.

That is hilarious. I received my unit from Dell, but waiting on them to pricematch Xotic, which I have an order in with as well. If they don't do the pricematch I'll be sending this one back :/

I spoke at length with an employee at Xotic when placing the order, they seem like a legit group of people and very nice. They are located in Nebraska and ordering from them was not nearly as difficult as strolling into the bazaar and haggeling for hours :p

Delta 330w is good for peak up to 425W and 412w from the wall with 80% efficiency. Damn good power adapter. Not cheaply made as much other junk you get from China. MSI used it in combination with their battery boost. 410w from the wall over longer period.

    Edit.
Dell have really screwed up the firmware if all you get is 260/275w out from single 330w psu in the new dual connector setup.

    Confirmed around 240w max.

Lol. They (Xotic) probably simply chated up a sales rep and got about 25% off on an order of two dozen systems or so. Retailers do this all the time, across all markets. Nothing new at all, and nothing to do with being an "authorized re-seller." They paid what they paid and charge what the want to charge. They own the systems after they buy them.

An "authorized retailer" will often approach this different. Dell will loan or forward them their systems, and the seller takes a cut of the sale (like consignment).

The way AZOR is wording it, he seems to imply they got them through illegitimate channels (direct from factory). Or are a fake company (which is obviously not true). He is way off base here. This is what Dell gets for outsourcing its sales calls. They would gladly discount for a large order.

I can't help but notice that Alien management is behaving odd, shall we say, lately over several matters; this open-to-the-public HID/Xotic kerfuffle as we watch beloved resellers get tossed under the bus is for sure 'way off base', I detect professional jealousy at work without knowing how or why

Rev1 True 8 --> Rev3 Fake 8 --> Rev4 True 7 --> the less pipes & copper it gets the better off it runs & the less it costs to make: e'rybody wins. Rev5 Fake 7pipe must be the hands-down crème de la crème

Due to the fact the 7pipe doubles as a nifty cost-cut - however large or small that was (it was, & is) - this is how I interpret the explanation they gave for the 'non-viable' 8piper seen at CES 2019 Las Vegas, NV ... which because it will never land into private hands & be put to the test to verify their claims, they have free reign to say anything need be said, unchallenged & they know it ...

Before someone posts how 'they wouldn't toy with 9900K cooling!", show me one product example where the Aliens don't already provide weak (criminally weak) budget cooling for monster desktop chips like 9900K & 9940X 9960X 9980XE; I feel that what they learned from deploying their whimpy desktop cooling parts (in concert w/their complacent customers) may have trickled in here but I hope not, which is to say better not have

Very anxious for Brother @ssj92 to put 9900k 2080 through the ringer for us ... (pssst ... SJ: if curiosity kills the kat & you must open your box Sunday for a sneak peek, that is fine, just don't 'open up the lappy too' until after you score an A on mid-terms :))

I'm expecting my Area 51m Monday or Tuesday at the latest, I'm going to be cloning my own 512GB Nvme from the SSHD. I could use some opinions as I've never cloned a drive before, but it seems pretty straight forward, just want clarification.

So I plan on using Acronis True Image. What I'm going to do is set up Windows on the SSHD, (install updates before or after clone?) Install my 512GB Nvme, I'm going to clone the SSHD to the Nvme, then going to remove the SSHD and power up with just the nvme. This is where I'm confused... Will I need to change any settings at all in the BIOS or will it automatically be recognized? Also are there any settings I should change to take full advantage of the Nvme speeds?

My experience with Metro Exodus so far has been "can I please, please, please have one more bullet?"

For an FPS AAA title to deny you the ability to go around shooting, this game is a tremendous flop. Spending 95% of game time AVOIDING enemies trying to save your bullets! Far Cry 5 runs circle around this overpriced junk of a game.

I'll open the box Sunday and take a look at the laptop to make sure it's intact.

Still not confident for my midterm. It's 3am , time to sleep.

I'll upload the first video tomorrow. Maybe I'll do two LOL

No benchmarks/actual results yet though as those will take some time and I don't want to put out garbage content.

In the meantime, enjoy the reddit post and let's see how Frank and Umar respond to this whole reseller thing :D
