Exactly the same for me. Same date, same delay.

Maybe i Hope they will ship at monday...

Very odd.. I ordered mines on 02/17/19 it was due to get here by 03/05/19.
They had to revise the order the following day so it put me back 2 days, due to arrive by 03/07/19.... just got notified the order has shipped on 03/01/19 so I’m expecting it on or before the 5th if all goes smoothly. I wonder why your date was pushed to the right so far with our order dates being so close together.

Use Macrium Reflect, arconis is not a great cloning tool. I’ve had it fail multiple times on windows 10. It worked great for 7..

I was just looking at my invoice on Dell.com and there is a sales rep listed. I ordered through the website, not over the phone, is that still normal? I did call earlier in the day and didn’t go with their offer and said I would just order it myself, wondering if he just added his name on there, lol.

I have a friend who is probably buying this laptop. I did read some time ago that there are different versions of the cooling system, but I cannot find it anymore. What is it that you have to order to get the cooling system with more pipes? Is this laptop able to cool down the 9900k and the 2080? Thank you!

From what I gather so far, the GPU stays fairly cool but the CPU runs a little hot. However, if you aren't overclocking then it should be fine and hover in the high 80's. But if you want to overclock then the current heatsink can't pull away enough heat and it reaches 95 - 100C which isn't ideal.

Will have to wait for more feedback from more owners to confirm however!

    1. There is no version with 8 heatpipes. That was just a "fake" ...

    2. The 9900 throttles down after a while ...

There’s nothing wrong with Metro Exodus, i play also 4K high with RTX 2070 egpu and never having crash both on dx12 nvidia rtx on or off. It’s most probably drivers, yes just released mobile rtx unoptimized driver that might happen on some titles. I think I saw this bsod on other laptops manufacturer, try using another driver if there’s any, last time I saw maybe 3 drivers released.

I did a fresh install earlier today. All works fine, no major hiccups. Didn't really gain anything either as AW seem to be somewhat bloat free.

One thing of notice, Google Chrome corrupted two driver packages from Dell. Worked fine when I downloaded them with Microsoft Edge thou.

I had the odd freeze once, but I'll blame that on Windows 10 rather than the hardware. The undervolt at -140 mV seem to be rock solid for me. I played for several hours with no crashes.

CPU topped out at 80C and the GPU at 79C, this is stock with performance fan profile.

Leaning towards pulling the trigger, but I’m not sure about the cpu. 8700 vs 9700, what do you think? Cooling capabilities/performance/price ratio. No content creation; pure gaming.

I will , but for my video I wanted to make some graphs. I'll run and post here first though.

I'll do some testing tomorrow finally :D

I'll do everything with stock 8GB stick and crap 1TB HDD. Then later I'll switch to clean install, 32GB 2133 ram and 1TB 970 Evo Plus.

I'll also compare 2133 vs 2400 performance in the Area-51M.

And if you keep reading they say it's better discussed here on nbr.... :D

Yes, nowhere near this fantom 5.3 ghz. I would understand if you made a mistake in reporting it, that is perfectly fine. But trying to live the lie....not cool.

As @Papusan mentioned. Just run and post. We can find the rest to match. :)

    Edit:

Only god knows under what condition he achieved his 5.3OC @ 25.3K score.

What i find interesting is the difference between

    1st 9900k/2080 firestrike score. (Clevo @ 5.3GHZ)
    https://www.3dmark.com/fs/18563703

    2nd 9900k/2080 firestrike score. (Area-51M @ 4.7GHz)
    https://www.3dmark.com/fs/18483284

I feel like under the hand of the right person the 51M will be extremly powerfull.

Yes, i'm not knocking the A51M, only stating that his overclock does not match the score range for that clock speed.

It depends how you look at it ...
If it was a Desktop, it would rank 255 out of 3643 with 9900k/RTX 2080 (Desktop)
I think it's super legit that a laptop would rank in the top 10% of benchmark with its desktop counterpart.

If you have read most of his previous post, you could see he said the cpu reading on 3dmark.com was wrong :D Now you show 4.7GHz and he claimed 5.1GHz for stock

This score seem's to have a stock 9900k tho and it's 2nd on Firestrike with 9900k/2080laptop.

No one has opposed this. I have said this before... Dell has finally figured out what they really throw out before. A big change to the better. They should have done it +5 years ago. As you can see... Not much has to be improved to make it better than the past.

And yeah, I can see where you look at Area-51m’s performance.

Unfortunately we do know the conditions. And it was called throttling....

This is where the 190W A51m Shines over the Clevo 150W card, while the CPU scores show the Clevo clearly ahead.

No sure what list that is, but when i checked, it's over all score is like in the 1300+ range.

Yes, it has potential, but it's locked down. We are tying to find out if it can pushed.....

Weird thing is, I don't have issues with DX12 on other games, like RE2 for example.
I don't know if this is related, but this issue started after I did a used the killer Uninstaller and also added to plug to stop it from reinstalling itself through windows updates.
    Weird.

I saw that drives somehow caused crashes with metro exodus like Roccat mouse drivers, and I have lots of warnings (alonside the pesky DristributedCom Errors) on the System event viewer about killer wireless thing, that is caused by that plug.
Wonder if it really has to do with that.
And everyone that replied to me so far saying I have no issues with Metro says they have a graphcis amplifier. No one else who has Metro exodus on his aliewnare area 51M?

Received my AW Area 51m 9900k/2080 and have been very impressed. I do look forward to someone hopefully showing a step by step for cooling it down with premium pastes and thermal pads and what works best. After I set my computer up and made sure to upgrade any drivers needed tried my first game which was Anthem. WOW does it get hot. CPU runs between 90-95c and keypad is quite hot to the touch. Has anyone tried under clocking to get it cooler? I of course have no idea what settings to use in the overclocking part of the command center. What voltage and voltage off set to use on the CPU with say 4ghz and the GPU proper settings to underclock etc.

An amazing machine and I hope to learn much more on tips/tricks from this forum.

I know, that is not what you want to hear but:

In your configuration this notebook costs more than 4,5k € ...

For that price it has to run cool without any help from other users. If you have to repaste it, undervolt it or whatever just to get it run cool and at the full speed, it is everything but not amazing!

And in my opinion a repaste does not help much on this machine ... maybe three or four degree. But it will still not run long on full speed without throttle!

I had the same config and after three days I gave it up and sent it back ...

Sorry to say that but AW is not the same as they were many years ago ... I loved their machines but now ... it is just sad ...

Glad you're liking it. How's Anthem run? Any throttling.

The temps people are reporting (and from the little we've seen on Youtube) seem all over the place. Seems some people are able to game and even on CPU-bound titles like Anthem are able to stay in the high 80s on the 9900k, then others like yourself it's hitting 95c. There's a big difference between, say, 87 and 95, IMO. Wonder if the chip lottery and roll-of-the-dice factory thermal paste are making that big of a difference.

If I can't stay under 90c on video games with thermal grizzly, I'll probably return mine. I understand a laptop is gonna get hot; but I've never had luck with a mobile machine staying at 90c+ for extended amounts of time.

I would assume that allot of that has to do with whether or not it's trying to run it's base level of 4.7Ghz and staying hot or is it dropping down to 4.2Ghz and staying cool...

What’s the chances of Ryzen coming to the Area 51M? Especially now considering the leaks for Zen 2. Imagine having a 16 core 32 thread portable beast!!

I was fussing around with the command center and set the theme to Cool instead of Performance and turned overclock off. Restarted Anthem with everything maxed graphics (ultra) and now the game plays so cool and the visuals are stunning. CPU temps now are fluctuating between 65-70c and the GPU never goes above 50c. I love this computer! FPS at max settings are right around 85fps.

And the quality of Intel's Solder + Quality of Silicon is a roll of the dice. Together with Dells spotty paste jobs, I would expect a large range out of the box for this laptop.

I don't know what standard you are talking. But as long as I have been buying laptops for the past 20 years... Its always been a crapshoot weather you can run stock out of the box for any brand. This is why hand built systems from Clevo Boutiques do a bit better (and even then people usually end up re-pasting eventually)

They only difference is AW, many years ago, did not have as locked down firmware.

Has anyone **successfully reinstalled windows** on a new ssd?

I tried using easeus software which worked for me many a time on r3,r4,r5but it doesn’t on this machine. The laptop doesn’t recognise the new drive with the copied image (even though the new drive has the windows software files on it)

I also tried downloading the dell recovery image for this laptop on a usb which created the image fine on the usb. However when I ran dell os recovery it just got stuck in loading the image from the usb so powered off after 40 mins and no files had been copied to the new ssd.

I have windows pro. I might try macron reflect.. or download windows from Microsoft. But there isnt much bloatwear on this system image hence why I used the dell image from their website using the service tag

Oh wow! That's awesome! Much, much better to hear - really happy for you and I hope I get the same experience. If I can play games with CPU always below 80c, I'm a real happy camper.

With that newer setup, can you comment on the fan noise? Is it loud? Slow hum? Sped up hum? Engine? Jet engine? It's about to take off?

I just checked on my order. It says:
"Ordered online" and sellers email is " [email protected]"

So yeah, you should ave no name there! This is very bad taste of that seller. Give them hell!
