Why bro? That was one of the contenders I was considering earlier when I was contemplating between getting a light laptop like the Alienware M15 or the MSI GS65. What do you not like about it?

How are the pre-configured OC levels in the Area 51-m?

I remember when I had an Alienware 18, OC Level 2 and 3 will result in BSODs. Like they didn't properly configure the settings just up the multipliers and let you deal with your CPU lottery luck. Do these OC Levels actually work properly now?

Why don't you put your system specs in your signature so we can easily see your specs like CPU and RAM?

Just give them a change. When you get it your gonna love it. My order has been delayed aswell. From 12-3-2019 to 18-3-2019.
Asked them today over the chat whats the hold up. There was a part shortage last week, order is now on green for production.

Waiting game is hard, but canceling it doesn't get you anywhere.

You can swap Fn with Win key functionality on the BIOS, so the FN problem is a non issue..

Yes, these look way better. Great job! This is what a legit A51M should produce.
As to the answer to your other question....Nope. :D

Ahhh hell... well guys.. it wasn’t easy, but I’ve decided to get a full refund on this laptop... as good as it seems to be, I feel like the premium price stands out more. Gonna check out HiDevolution for a SFF case and see what I can get.. hopefully things won’t be tampered with by engineers like they’ve done with Alienware. Oh, and on another note, the rep haggled the HELL out of me lol.. boys, if you want to save a bit of cash on your purchase just act like you want to return it.. sound like you mean it though... play the part.. I managed to have him drop the price by $450 but still I had to turn it down.

Post the Ram info & SSD's info & manufacturer in your 51m laptops if purchased from Dell directly.
I was told by Dell support they put what ever they have available at the time the laptop is assembled.
I'd love to see what each country and different configuration get for the overpriced Ram/SSD combo's.

This is a firestrike run with my gpu at +150 core +175 mem and my 8700k at 5.0ghz.

Cinebench score is still a bit low. How do I increase the priority?

CPU never got above 74c with performance fans. Can anyone else with an 8700k check their scores?

Looks like mine was delayed as well. It was originally going to ship today and arrive tomorrow, just in time for my birthday (3/7). I even talked to someone on 3/2 and they said there were no delays, then checked today and now there is. The ship date is now 3/8 and set to arrive 3/12... won’t have it for my birthday weekend or my work trip on the 11th. Tempted to cancel and reorder since it looks like I can get it slightly cheaper now through work.

For those curious, the delay was due to a shortage of the 9700k... at least that’s what they told me

EDIT: He also told me that it was being shipped with expedited delivery, I told him I was pretty sure I had express selected, but he told me it wasn’t. Just checked my order and it clearly states express, what a joke.

it IS an issue, then the Windows key goes to the right, I need both as I use them extensively. MSI is the only laptop manufacturer that has this weird layout.

my 8950HK @4.5 score's around 1500's. But that's @4.5Ghz. We don't know what speed you where running so it all depends on your (all core) clockspeed.
    A for the priority:
    1 - go to Taskmanager
    2 - right click "Cinebench"
3 - press "Go to details"
4 - when you're on the "Details" tab in taskmgr, just right click "Cinebench" again and hover with your mouse over "set priority". Setting it on "Realtime" will crash your system, setting it on "High" will most likely crash some background programs (that could steal cpu cycles when updating in the background so crashing them is better to preserve cpu cycles) making your windows run more as a stock windows.

Best thing to do would be to do the benchark in safe mode (if ya can) but most of the times it won't even start a benchmarking program. A empty windows 7 installation (with only neccesary drivers) is wat most benchmarkers use due to the more stable nature (and kernel) of windows 7 compared to 10

When running Cinebench, I always set the priority to Realtime and never got a crash, that's on my current MSI GT75 Titan with an 8950HK CPU

Read this and you won't do it again lol. I learned it the hard way. What you encountered is a new mechanism found in windows 10 that acts like the battery slider.

In windows 8 realtime was still realtime, in 10 they changed the code begind the "Realtime" flag. Windows isn't a realtime OS which is why we need a renderahead queue in D3D - in case the CPU is occupied and can't generate display lists on time, the GPU will still have display lists queued up ready for processing.

    The total was $4792.90
He started off with a $150 store credit which I laughed at and turned down.. he raised it to $200 and I told him I had nothing I needed, which would equal to empty credits... he then said he would see what he could do and countered with $300 (final offer).
I paused... then said ok.. I suppose I could use that... once he had it wrote up I flipped on him and said then again nvm.. it just doesn’t cover the cost of this builds ballooned numbers...
He then asked me what I would be ok with, any number.. I said $800 lol... he immediately said no sir, I cannot do that... I said then ok... please start the refund process... he countered with $350 I countered with $500... he countered with $400 and we settled for $450... but still... in the back of my head I knew I could save much more in the long run.. I almost really bit it too but had to break it off... he reluctantly filed the refund report... I guess refunds really hit hard for them.. oh well.. get better and maybe we’d buy more
I’ve got some good exp in bartering lol...

When you updated the BIOS, were you able to boot with more than one RAM Stick? How many RAM sticks do you have in your machine and what speed/capacity?

So you already have your laptop and just returning it? Or were you delayed also? I might give them a call instead of chat. They said a case specialist will get back to me.

    Question too our pro overclockers.

Delid aka taking down the heatshild of the CPU so the chip shows itself. Can you do it on this laptop?

Why I ask is, on normal computer you can adjust the heatsink so it comes closer to the CPU.
But on laptop the entire heatshild is fixed if I understand it. SO you should get bigger gap betwen heatsink and cpu since you take away the small cpu heatshild that it has through delide.

    Did I missunderstand something?

Yes, but its that's OK, we all start somewhere.

The IHS (integrated heat sink, you call the "heat shield") is removed, thermals paste or solder is removed, new paste (preferably liquid metal) is applied. Then the IHS is re-applied.

In a sense the "lid" is removed, but then put back. Shorthand has called the entire process "de-lidding"

I had very low cinebench scores as well until I disabled some of the startup processes. With my 9900k, killing the Tobi processes will net me 200+ points

Just installed these from Geforce Experience (clean install) and I have the Nvidia control panel when right clicking on the desktop

Not ssj92, but I replaced the stock 16gb with 32GB (16gb x2) of Ballistix Sport (2666mhz). I swapped the RAM, then updated the BIOS with both sticks installed. No problems encountered.

Regarding the AGA....the F1 disconnect button does not work, nor does the disconnect button on the cable itself. On this machine, the AGA is completely missing in Command Center, AlienFX doesn't work and it has no hot-plug support (BSOD). It requires a complete shutdown to connect or disconnect. I'll experiment with some other PCIe cards for compatibility and report back for those who are interested.

    aha. thanks!

I thought the point was to remove the HIS so the main heatsink that goes to fans has direct contact.
    How come none does that?

Instead of having 2 paste you could have 1 direkt betwen the chip and main heatsink?

My Hidevolution order just got delayed because they updated the bios on my system and now it won't boot with more then one ram stick. They have tried multiple ones. They said that this is the type of bios where they cannot downgrade it. They are unsure if its a bio issue or an isolated incident. Now they have to swap the motherboard. Sigh

Yeah, but atleast they don't send somethign faulty! I recived when I brought Alienware 17 inch R4 or R5, dunno but was 2017 december. 2 times display that was severe bleeding on and the keys AWSD became 65 degrees after 20 min playing, same issue with the replecment laptop. So I waited until now, when I ordered the 51m. I pray to the gods I won't have issues :D

All BGA laptop chips work as you describe.

It's the LGA desktop CPUs with the IHS. Probably due to size and scale of desktop coolers. They need the interm sized IHS tu support the heat sink. This is because they have MUCH higher tension on desktop coolers. Screwing it down could damage the small direct die, or be uneven. Also need IHS for water cooling.

So I've had my 51m for a week now (ordered from HIDEvolution with repaste and updated SSDs.)

    Initial impressions:
1: After a small undervolt and downclock to 4.5ghz, temps seem reasonably low and fans are generally nice and quiet while gaming.
2: I really like the screen. Colors really pop and it's awesome for FPS games.
3: I *love* the keyboard. It's the best laptop keyboard I've ever used. Something kind of addictive about it, not sure I can describe it exactly. And this is coming from a guy who collects mechanical keyboards on my desktop side (I have multiple Topre and Cherry keyboards.)
4: I experienced the same touchpad "loose" thing that other people reported. Someone earlier in this thread mentioned they were able to fix it themselves by adding a rubber washer with a screw, might try that.
5: This laptop is smaller than the dimensions quoted everywhere. It's still big. It *barely* fits in my Everki Titan (that's designed for 17.3" laptops) and without enough padding on the top. But it's not the super-huge beast it's made out to be, and the weight isn't bad.
6: The smaller of the two chargers is like, a normal laptop charger. The larger one is *giant* and super heavy. I would not want to travel with this in a backpack. On my last trip I checked both.

Overall I am very happy with the laptop and I'm coming from a Zephyrus M with a 1070.

FYI: If you purchased a model with Tobi Eye tracking, you can get a free copy of the Division 2. Myself and a few of my friends have all received our keys. I get that some may not care, but it's a free key to share with someone else even if you don't want it for yourself. Just figured I would share.

After you register and it scans your Tobi serial number, it takes roughly a day for it to populate in your Tobii "my games" section. Pretty quick and easy.

Any owner from UK? I wonder if it is widely available in UK now as I can’t find it in Amazon. Kinda reluctant to order it from Dell directly  i did noticed that it is available as “pre-order” in one of thr well-known reseller and it states that 51m will only be available after 25th of Mar :(

Ok so I did manage to copy windows using macron reflect no problem.

There is currently an issue with using dell os recovery drivers (via the usb method) and Alienware support only recommend installing windows direct from ms website

‘MFor Windows installation you need to download Windows installation files (64-bit version) and create bootable USB stick. This can be done by using Media Creation Tool:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Until the dell os recovery drivers are updated..

True enough.. I did noticed that the price is more or less the same as offered by the reseller with the same specifications. Finger crossed that i will not be screwed by Dell delivery

Sorry about the delay. I’m just now getting the time to reply.. nah it wasn’t late, they just ended up delivering it to an old address I told them to update. Basically I told myself if they screwed over that I wouldn’t even bother opening the box.

I’m not sure if I’m understanding you correctly, but I had no problem installing a fresh Windows 10 installation.

Downloaded the official latest iso from MS and prepared my USB stick with Rufus. Took about 5 minutes from start to finish.

EDIT: Ok, about 10 minutes. After preparing the USB that is... ;-)

Hi Mufya666, I was wondering if you did clean installation and did you have any trouble, If not then what should I do very first when I receive my laptop again. What should I do if I want to add my M.2 SSD. Thank you

When I add an Alienware 51M to my card, and try to use this or SAVE12, both say "Your order does not qualify for this coupon."

    1) Install Macrium Reflect on your current computer
    2) Using Macrium Reflect, crease a USB Rescue disk
    3) Make an image of your C: Partition on your new Alienware when you get it, you don't even need to install Macrium Reflect, you can simply boot off the rescue disk and do that. Set the location of the image to some USB External HDD
    4) Install your new SSD
    5) Boot off the USB Macrium Reflect Rescue disk again and this time, go to the restore tab
    6) Hit the Restore button on the top right and browse to where you had saved your previous image (your external USB disk)
    7) Change the boot options in BIOS to have your new SSD as the boot drive
    8) Format any other drives you may have had in your machine

Just received my AW 51m today (9700k/2070.) I'll be posting benchmarks/temps in the following day or so.

Have a question though as the answer was posted quite a few pages back. How do I turn off the Tobii screen dimming thing?

To be honest, I’d just clone if you have a proper adapter.

If not, start with downloading all drivers from Dell. Use Edge or Firefox as Chrome seem to corrupt some drivers, then just install everything in no special order. You have to download Geforce experience separatly and update your gpu driver via this. Also, if you run Ahci you will need those drivers from Samsung.

Also, before reinstalling, take note of the AW store apps you need to redownload.
