Not nitpicking and slightly curious: on the second test there is less power, about 6W-8W less, is that significant? I guess you will never be able to tell "before" and "after" as it's only "after" what you've got?

I got all the OEM wallpapers saved. I'll hook you up later tonight.

I got this too, and I heard quite a few user reporting this. Personally, I can live with it as most of the time the fans or the headphones will drown it out completely. The coil whine lottery is as hopeless as all other lotterys.

Yikes, really? Interesting... Maybe possibly a part you picked is on backorder or something? It wouldn’t hurt to contact support to find out. I did the chat and I talked with an agent for a solid 35 minutes. Very helpful.

I just received an update via twitter @dell-care. So mine is still in “facility planning” and “should” move “soon” into production.

In short nothing has been done to date. :(

8w less because the deliddet CPU is able to run 5ghz at lower voltage ;)
i can not tell the difference between before and after with my new CPU but i can tell before with Dells 9900k and after with the deliddet one :) thats more interesting. A below average stock 9900k vs an very good/ golden deliddet 9900k.

8w Difference at 200w consumption is not very significant when we talk about 7 degree difference stock vs delidd

Ah are you saying that the first and second runs were not made with the same CPU? Otherwise if it is the same CPU, how can removing the lid allow the CPU to run with lower voltage/UV? This is a function of the silicon, and cannot be changed ever. Or I am not understanding this right?

Did you order a AW51m with 9900K and then independently bought another 9900K ? Why did you not buy the cheapest Dell CPU option since you will be removing it anyhow?

vcore is temperature related... same CPU but cooler = 1 or 2 dips lower vcore possible.

i dont want to have the i7 sticker on my notebook. :p fun aside. If i have problems in the future and i get an replacement for example A51m R2, then i will get the highest CPU if i have an 9900k now. And i dont want to have the i7 sticker

Why is there such a big gap between him and the rest of us, this is just pure hardware related isnt it ? its all just depends if you have a good laptop straight from the factory or not..

That's an insane score. I'm still trying to push my 9700k/2070. So far I'm only able to get 18690 on Firestrike before it gives me an error.. Someone else with the same config just hit 21000.

And looking at gtx 1080 notebooks, they're in the 19500+ range. Was hoping the 2070 would be on par or better than the 1080.

Right now new buyers can get 17% off Area 51m using Save17 code in dell website. Good deal and maybe great time to buy as this is now in same price range as MSI GE75, Asus ROG G703GX / GX701

EDIT: This discount is for US only

Does that really mean you could get 27% off all at once? We'd never see that here in the UK :(

Not at once and not a true 27% off. You get the 10% cashback a few months later and that's off the final sale price (so like 25.3% off in total).

I ordered mine on 03/08 and thought that 15% off was the best deal I could find. Wish I could have waited till today to order one but on the other hand I am glad I did last week. Mine is in production and will reach any day between Friday and Tuesday. Hopefully I get it before weekend

Will install it tonight and try to push it a little further :)

    I'd say it's a mix of Software/Hardware and temperature.
If you have questions feel free to PM me.

    Still no 2666Mhz Ram support.

They released a new Bios (210W Short power) and Vbios (200W)
The bios din't make any difference to my OC, haven't tested the Vbios yet.

First of all I put a like on all you who wrote 17% discount, 10% ebate and so on. This helps the community. US

What crazy insane stuff is always going on in US! How come you guys get extreme discount codes and so on 24/7.

In Sweden you get nada, sometimes the have small discounts if lucky!

Also UK student discount is 50% higher then for Swedish students.... We are getting murdered in Sweden with all expenses :p

    LIFE is not fair!

At least it makes ordering easy for you! It’s so stressful ordering in the US not knowing if you purchased at the right time and got the best discount possible. I got my first 51m and returning it because I got a better deal when a new discount came out.

Glad you didn’t have any issues when you called. I just got off chat and they said my order was delayed. Called the number they provided and apparently its delayed due to a chassis shortage.... my first 51m was delayed due to a 9700K shortage. They’re giving me a call back in two hours to provide a new delivery window.

I ordered March 7th to the US, 9700K/2080.

If you happy with your laptop you could just email dells costumer service and ask for the difference, they pay back and done. They save shipping and handling for old computer and you don't need to wait for new computer. Win win for everybody :)

Mine is still in production. It will not be ready before the 19th of March, let alone the additional time needed by HIDevolution to install my upgrades and test the system. I won't get it before the end of March

Quick question does dell ask a fee if you ask for a refund ?

I just filed a form to return it, reason be is my speakers are not working and sometimes they do. Its weird

Also the units in europe are more cheaper now then one month ago.
For 250$ more i get the 9900k + 32gigs of ram. Having 9700k and 8gigs of ram atm. But i want to make sure i get the full amount back.

Also when i take out my own ssd which contains my OS atm do i have re install the windows back on the orginal drive that came with it ? Or leave it empty.
