Ah yes great but the monitor has 2 standard display ports, not a mini display port and the Alienware only has mini display port so looks like I’m on hdmi which means I miss out on gsync I think ?

I think its interesting to note the AW Area 51M R2 is specifically mentioning white with a clear coat... ;)

While mine is issue free - I did respond back with the Class Action suit information to see what happens. Tiny, tiny chance of getting an R2 to replace my R1.

I believe to do this it has to be very specific RAM doesn't it?

    No.
And it works even if you install all of them at once unlike someone here who mentioned you have to install them one by one.

I buffed my original 16 to 64, but nice to know 128GB is possible if I ever take up that second career as a 3d artist doing video editing :)

I’ll do the same!!! I’d suggest everyone to do the same... even if you’re 100% satisfied with your R1. This is the best way by which we can get Dell to do right by their false claims.

Can you share the link again?

    Thanks in advance

The issue with the class action law suite is the fine print from Dell that you agree to supposed excluded then from being sued according to the lawyer.

Search back in this forum, I just clicked on what someone else posted. I also have a transcript chat where I was told that the only available graphics upgrades were vastly overpriced refurbs. Love to unload that in a court room...

This is from an email I received form them: (one line of the email. I am in talks with much more detail and information I am giving them....
"We’ve also received reports that Dell includes documents in their packaging that tells consumers that they’ve waived their right to a join a class action and are bound by an arbitration clause. Many courts have upheld these types of agreements even though most people have never even read the them. Do you have the paperwork that came in your box? If so, could you please scan/photograph them and send it to us? "

Ok so I am a huge idiot. I tried to repaste mine and followed the manual to the letter making sure it all goes back the way it was. But I might have done damage as my main display does not turn on anymore and without an external display connecting to the Intel GPU it does this now:

The Device Manager says RTX2080 with Code 43 and support assist says my LCD has a problem. I can get the RTX card to work when I reinstall the nvidia drivers but after restarting the drivers are gone again. Did I break the LCD cable somehow? I have no idea how because I gently unplugged and plugged it back in.

I guess it is Dell who will have to try to save it now as I may be too Pepega to do it.

Curious about the 2070 Mobile in the A51M R1 - using HWInfo I often see GPU clocks that max at 1900 or so - is Dell doing some kind of unstated OC?

Typically the "mini-DP" connector is only on the end that connects to the laptop. The end that connects to the monitor is typically the standard DisplayPort size. This is what I use to connect my TongFang turdbook (dual mini-DP connections) to my dual curved AOC 144Hz monitor setup.

    upload_2020-6-19_21-35-19.png

You can buy DisplayPort cables with the same or different connections at either end. You can also get mini-DP to HDMI cables if you need to for monitors that are HDMI with no DP ports.

I'm not even going to say anything. I have not heard that error beep before either.

Ok I lied I do have one thing. As I have not re-pasted my machine and will not do so for a long long time as I keep my temps in the 50s-60s, I will let someone that has done repaste work on the Area-51m chime in here. The error beep sounds like a tornado warning coming over the radio though.

I don't even know how the manual looks like. This is the guide I followed, it was so simple and I keep each set of screws in a separate box (ie. L8, L12, Fan screws, battery screws, etc) so I know which one goes where afterwards

Enjoy... Damn good publicity/adverticing for a computer company claiming they are there for the gamers. And they won't give at the doors!

Class action? Investigating Alienware Area 51-M False Upgrade Promises....

Spam all of the companies social media accounts with it (Umar, Ernie, Eddy and AW + Dell). Twitter and Facepalm. + Dell's community support page. Never let them get any peace.

Only bad publicity everywhere and in main review sites and their own channels can help to stop this greed and mess.

    Forced to buy Dell ram....
    upload_2020-6-20_13-10-25.png
Tried to upgrade the memory on new R11. Got the exact spec.. got two boots into Windows verified 32gb..and two boots with four blinking Alienware Yellows which says memory issue. Pulled the added ram out for now because not sure what's going on.

Ok guys so I solved my 2red7blue problem because I did not fully connect the cable connector. You really have to push it in and make sure it really clicks in. My machine now fully works with the new SSD and the thermals are from CPU at 100C in Overwatch to 80-90. It is an improvement that is also seen on the GPU. I am such an idiot for not doing it properly. In the end it was worth it.

The CPU would hit 100C during gaming at default Alienware settings and throttle slightly, GPU would hit 86-88.
Temps now are CPU 80-92, GPU at around 75.

Solid improvement. You really don't want the silicon to run 100c on a day to day basis, even if it's "within Dell spec".

What are the average temps for the 9900K and RTX 2080 at idle? Mine are about 50-60 with 90+ in gaming for CPU hitting 100 quite often.
My GPU 42-45 at idle and 72-75 at gaming.

At default the 9900k should be running at 4.7 ghz. Those temperatures sound about right but each 9900k CPU can run differently... I dont know what bios your on but the GPU will hit 75 in most games and settle there...

Hi guys, I noticed in hwinfo when you manually set the fans to the max, they start spinning even higher than the max speed set in Alienware Command Center but only for 1 sec or 2. After that, they come back to the same speed they were before. I can notice this from their noise which is higher in pitch when this happens and also the airflow get higher in the back, I can feel it with my hand. Is there a way to keep those higher speeds permanently ? has anyone found any trick?

Clevo has a similar bug, where if you use it's CCC software, max fan speed is limited to 80% of actual max fan RPM. The trick is to uninstall CCC and to do a complete bios reset. ie pull battery or fn+d.
This removes any prepopulated data from the EC and allows for 100% fan RPM.

Dell have always used weird fan profiles. On my old AW17 you can only get max Fan RPM under bios flashing. And the only fix is to cut of the signal cable on the fan. Remove any prepopulated data from the EC won't help. Crippled at birth.

And the Aw support suggested to use HWinfo to control the fans because of their broken fan profiles. But this can't fix the broken max fan speed.

I am having a problem now where my laptop is throttling the GPU really badly while the GPU is running around 68 Celsius and even less.
I am running the 1.5.0 BIOS but it is throttling like it does with the newer BIOS. Can high CPU temps cause this?

I have done that exact thing already. It was not a problem before and it seems to ignore that 87 limit and just clocks down and never recovers its speed. I did have to do a BIOS revert after it updated accidentally to 1.7.3 after I had to do a CMOS reset.

Right, what I want you to do now is:

    1) Reflash BIOS 1.5.0 but through the Windows installer, it will allow you this time since it's not a downgrade.

    2) After it has been flashed, reset BIOS to defaults by shutting down the system, then hold down the power button for 30 seconds

    3) Go into BIOS again and disable Firmware Capsule Updates.

Now see if your issue is resolved. When I flash only from the Recovery USB I always re-flash again from Windows as I had some weird issue before which was only fixed with a reflash. Seems like that USB Flash Recovery misses something in the process.

Oh and remember, you need to SELECT the profile you have saved after you've increased the GPU Temp Limit slider and hit Test and Save. Then do a CPU undervolt (if you want) and also save it to that same profile, then go to the HOME tab of AWCC and SELECT the profile otherwise it's not active.
