I don't think this is the version for the 51m r1. This is (I think) just the version from the 51m r2, which won't work without modification in the r1
-
Hi.... The seller emailed me back and said he had a newer version for the "R1" by modifying the "R2" version to fit... I think its best to email the seller if interested and get more facts on it.

I am looking for some help I created a 2nd User account on my Area51M and I can't seem to get AWCC to work on the second user, the program is installed and AWCC service is running but no way to launch it, I tried reinstalling AWCC under the 2nd user but it just fails and then messes up the Primary user.
Maybe this is not possible ?
Welcome any tips from anyone with any experience with this.Fire Tiger likes this. -

Be sure to do some A/B testing before swapping the heatsink, ie. run benchmarks and log temps/frequencies to have comparable data between the two. Should be interesting to see the performance difference.Spartan@HIDevolution, DreDre, Rei Fukai and 1 other person like this.

Hello all,
for a few weeks i got these gfx issues in 2D Desktop-Applications every few minutes when opening them. Closing and re-opening or resizing their window usually solves the issue. Anyone knows whats causing it? Dell support exchanged the 2080 but this did not solve the issue.
Best regards

Did you try deleting and reinstalling video driver?
-
Definitely a driver problem. Seen it here and on Reddit and it's almost always solved with rolling the drivers back. I am surprised they went right to swapping the GPU without trying the drivers first

Thank you guys,
ran the display driver uninstaller and installed it again. Looks good. Lets see if the issue reoccurs.

Yeah it's the newest driver that is specifically causing the issue from my understanding. Most people are rolling back to get rid of the issue.chewbakaats58 and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

I have been facing the same issue with RTX 2060 in my Area 51m. Was happening frequently (basically getting right back into windows from lockscreen). I removed old drivers, did a clean install of the latest driver. Problem went away for 2-3 days and came back. I am assuming it's just a bad driver and should hopefully be fixed in a future driver update. Apart from that no performance issues or anything.
Also it seems the problem occurs most of the time when I have chrome open when PC locks up. If I have just plain old desktop or another app open, I don't see this issue. -

I'll 3rd all these comments as I had the same exact issue with weird pixelation (mainly when I woke it up from the screen turned off) when I updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers last month. I thought my RTX 2080 was dying so was happy to see that once I rolled back drivers it went away. Because of that, I am now staying at the latest NVIDIA driver that Dell releases on the 51m driver page instead of always updating to the latest and greatest driver from NVIDIA. -

Looks like a bad install of AWCC, you may need to completely uninstall AWCC - reboot and reinstall AWCC components I am pretty sure @Spartan@HIDevolution and several others have posted step by step instructions here before.
This has happened to me many times AWCC is REALLY finicky and easily corrupted, and yes you will need to recreate your profiles ( at least I have every time this happened ). -
even after a windows rollback point. I cant reinstall AWCC, I got a 1603 error.
I also tried to clean following this https://www.dell.com/support/articl...einstall-the-alienware-command-center?lang=enLast edited: Aug 2, 2020 -

Yes I got this today on someone's computer. The solution is:
1) Install Alienware Command Center from the Windows Store by clicking on this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-np/p/a...p?cid=appledotcom&activetab=pivot:overviewtab
2) Once it has installed, go to the Windows Store, then let it check for updates, it will find an update then the regular Windows installer will launch automatically and install it over the Windows Store version, then it would work.
Yes, I know, AWCC is the buggiest piece of software made in history! -
Does not seems to work :/
-
Make sure you DISABLE any and all Antivirus and Malware programs before you reinstall, over here Viper see's AWCC as Malware and prevents a successful install
edit: ALSO try REBOOTING after you uninstall AWCC before attempting reinstall. MAKE SURE to RE DISABLE ANTIVIRUS / ANTIMALEWARE until after AWCC is up and working fully.
A lot of us here have gone round and round with this situation from time to time, believe me one day I was so bent out of shape trying to reinstall AWCC I seriously almost lost my mind.Last edited: Aug 2, 2020Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Then a format is your only option or restore to factory image. If you do restore to factory image, you wanna uninstall Alienware Command Center immediately (make sure you're not connected to the internet otherwise the Windows Store will reinstall it), get rid of its traces, reboot, then install the latest one. -
Mine keeps failing tried to remove all AW CC settings...

I just updated to the new control center, and I don't know if I just never noticed it before or what, but I get like, a rhythmic pulse *wah wah wah wah wah* kind of noise, like when you have a couple fans running out of sync with one another, and you can feel the pulse/vibration in the top of the laptop. It's only there on balanced mode when the fans are totally silent, so it seems like maybe something changed with the fan curve or something where it's trying to turn the fans off but instead they're just barely on and are switching off and on rapidly or something. Anyone else have that issue?
-
I did not notice that..... When I tried to update i had to do a system restore... These two updates (ACC center & OC controls) are totally messed up when downloaded from dell... It was stuck on the loading screen spinning for ever and it was missing the power tab that lets you toggle from Balanced Power to High Power.. There is no excuse for this. Thankfully, Spartan found a fix... I will give it a try later.Last edited: Aug 3, 2020Docsteel likes this.

I had the same issue as you...follow these steps (these are courtesy of @Papusan ):
Uninstall and try latest Nvidia driver from Dell. Use DDU.
In"Apps and Features" uninstall NVCPL (or use REVO under win10 APPS/UWP option) then go to "Programs & Features" and uninstall first PhysX then Graphics without rebooting.
Next go into device manager uninstall nV HDAUDIO "incl. driver software. Finally, reboot in safe mode and run DDU and "Clean and Shutdown". Startup your machine and install new drivers.
**Install only the newest driver from the Alienware Area 51m driver page here: https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER06113669M...aphics-Driver_TN4VR_WIN_26.21.14.4223_A06.EXE **Papusan likes this. -

@Spartan@HIDevolution can you link the steps to do if AWCC updates and the custom profile lost the temperature setting i had for the gpu to exceed the 74c and put it at 87c? Mine updated and that happened. I know you probably have posted the exact steps in this forums tons of time so sorry.

"Its Alive!.. Its Alive!!"
Hello everyone... So I finally upgraded my i7-9700K "PO" / RTX2070 / 16GB to an i9-9900K "PO" / RTX2080 / 32GB.
I'm happy to report the operation was a complete success.. Its running great.. Zero issues.. I used Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut on the CPU/GPU (Using the spread method).
During my stress testing I used the stock Alienware Control Center's "Overclock 02" settings (5.2ghz).. I am also on the most recent System BIOS (1.10.0).. Nothing else was changed.

So far i'm happy with results.. They seem to be in line with what other members are reporting.
I'm sure I can get more out of it by using Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) along with MSI Afterburner.
*I know to a lot of you this is old news.. If anything, let this post reflect the results of having BIOS 1.10.0.

Alienware Area-51m R2 Factory Image (OS Build is Windows 10 1909 with the latest drivers till this date)
Macrium Reflect v7.2.5107 Bootable ISO (use Rufus to create a bootable ISO)
Make sure to right click on the files you just downloaded, go to Properties, then hit Unblock from the bottom right as it may be blocked since it was downloaded from the internet, if you don't do this before you run the file, then it may not install correctly. Ensure both the image file and Rufus do not have a BLOCKED status.
To prevent this automatic blocking of files in the future so you don't have to go unblocking every file you download to ensure it runs properly, follow the guide in this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/are-you-sure-you-want-to-run-this-file-yes-or-no.825668/
Backup all your data before you do this!
I use a Patriot 256GB Supersonic Rage Elite USB Flash Drive which is SUPER fast, I create 2 partitions on it, the first one is 1 GB to contain the Macrium Reflect Bootable Image, then I create a 2nd partition where I store all the Backup Images on it.
Simply boot from the Macrium Reflect ISO USB stick that you created by pressing F12 continuously as your computer is restarting to get the boot menu option then select the USB stick.
Go to the restore tab, browse to where the factory image is located then select it, now hit restore, followed by "copy selected partitions" which appears in the middle.
You may need to manually adjust or shrink your SSDs if the partitions on the image file or bigger or smaller due to different sized disks.
You will need to uninstall Dell SupportAssist and reinstall it to make it reflect your own laptop's Service Tag
Make sure you're not connected to the internet during the initial setup wizard otherwise you will be forced to login to Windows with a Microsoft Account which I highly do not recommend. Just hit Don't have internet when you get to the part where it says Connect to a network.

So I've been running into an issue that almost seems like a throttle but all signs are showing me that shouldn't be the case. I play Warzone solely and the game will be going great 100+ fps then all of a sudden it dips down to about 39-50fps and never recovers. My video card speeds still stay high (1850mhz+) and temps are normal around 70C. At this point I don't know what else to do. Both cpu and gpu are running Phobya Nanogrease Extreme and as I said, the temps are never the issue. Bios is at 1.5.0 (main reason I run it is to avoid throttle lol). I don't ever seem to run into this issue when I'm playing on just the laptop and not my 27inch 1440p external monitor..so that being said one thought is maybe a displayport problem? Any suggestions are welcome!
Edit: I noticed my power settings under the NVIDIA control panel were set to Adaptive so I set to Prefer maximum performance. Not sure if that will help at all.Last edited: Aug 5, 2020 -

Does anyone use a USB 3.0 switch? I have an ultrawide monitor with a built in USB hub. I connect my keyboard, speakers and mouse to the monitor and then use the hub connector between my work laptop and the A51m depending what I'm using.
I'd ideally like to have a USB swith which I can connect the monitor hub to and then connect both laptops, so that its a case of flicking a switch instead of moving a cable every time.
First would this work, with the devices already being connected to a hub then almost a secondary hub and second any recommendations?
I know its not A51m specific but you guys are always a great help.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

1) Press the Windows Key + R to launch the run dialogue box
2) Type regedit then hit Enter
3) Navigate to the following key:
4) Double click on the string value " InstallVersion" and edit the value to 5.2.91.0 or whatever the latest version is.Code:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alienware\Alienware Command Center

Hi.... I'm not sure whats going on with your main issue, but I will comment on "Adaptive" vs "Maximum Performance".. In my situation... When I was running Unplugged and on "Battery Power".. I noticed that the small single games I have downloaded from Steam (Galaga, Pac-man and Dig Dug).. All ran super slow and were totally unplayabe while set on "Maximum Performance".. When I switched back to "Adaptive" all was well and the games played at their full speed with perfect music.
So if you run into any trouble playing or running stuff while Unplugged and on "Battery Power" you need to switch it back to "Adaptive".

That is because switching power modes in NVCPL requires a reboot. For example, when I change from Adaptive to High Performance the GPU clock speeds don't change until I reboot so that's not really a solution -
Thank you for clarifying that.. Good to know.
Mr. Fox and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
The other thing to consider as well... Galaga, Pacman and Dig Dug require no graphical performance. They are ancient arcade games that should be able to run fine with an old single- or dual-core Pentium (circa 2000-2002) and any kind of video card that can put an image on the screen. And, many games that are super-old like that can have a tendency to misbehave when they are run on a system that is like 5000x faster than the hardware they were designed to run on. They are still very fun to play as long as they behave correctly.
Another one I liked from back in the day was Sinistar.
" Beware, I live!!!"
" Run coward!!!"
" Run, run, run!!!"
" Beware, coward!!!"
" Run, coward!!!"
...then, once he roars loudly as he crushes your spacecraft in his robotic jaws, he declares...
" I am Sinistar!"
" I hunger!"
I think my 4 boys still remember the nightmares that daddy playing that game caused them, LOL.Last edited: Aug 5, 2020 -
