I expect that Dell's engineers have spent a lot time testing before and after the release and finally figured out that they could not validate higher ram speed/XMP support for Area-51m due etc cheaply produced MB (This would have been irresponsible - they simply can't add in better ram support for some of the MB if they are made in more than 1 revisions). Probably too bad signal quality/noise on the traces and paths on many of theeir MB. They will probably fix it for the refreshed R2 model. This of course if they are willing to spend the needed money on the refreshed boards.

Looks like a downgrade of your BIOS may help. See the post by S.K here to get to BIOS v1.5

Is anyone running Qubes OS on their 51m? If so, are there any suggestions on how to run it or is it a simple plug and play.

    lol *chirp* *chirp*

I have been using iPhone earphones for a couple of weeks because my Steelseries wireless base station stopped working out of the blue.

Unfortunately, the earphones are L+R+mic, I plug them into the jack closest to the front (towards the speakers), and I get balanced, L+R, full audio.

I don’t believe I have just L+R head/earphones, so this is as useful as I’ll be, in afraid.

It doesn't work for me, I am still stuck at 1.5.4, but I've disabled the UEFI settings update in the BIOS SETUP right after.
Should I try to downgrade to 1.3.2 again ? Am I missing something ?

Actually, I just reinstalled and it works like a charm. the UEFI settings update needs to be disabled prior to the BIOS downgrade.

    Hello guys,
I'm back on this amazing forum hoping to get some advice from the pros here because as we all know, alienware area51m is a pain due to the high amount of heat but unfortunately for my needs (portable 3d rendering) there is nothing out there that can beat this system and I ve got it for a nice price as well (outlet resealed from dell).
    System Spec: i9 9900k, 32 gb ram 2666mhz (only 2400mhz in reality) RTX 2060, 512 SSD+1tb hybrid hard drive

I've seen a youtuber stating that if you undervolt your Area 51m you can drom the temp from 98 to 74 degrees Celsius but still be able to reach high CPU speed and even apply the Overclocking config from Alienware command center.
    1) Having same cpu spec/laptop as him I used: ''Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility'' (same program he used) to undervolt my cpu by -0.150 exactly how he stated. In max 30 seconds, the system became unstable and reseted, got me from the start point again, did not accept the undervolt.
I basically keep seeing people stating that a small undervolt still makes you able to achieve most of the clock speed....but something is not right for me.

    2) Second thing I tried to undervolt from AlienwareCommandCenter, there you can go as low as 1.12 from 1.215v(stock) but if I kept the 5 Ghz or even 4.7Ghz clock speed, I still got 99 degrees Celsius.
The closest I got to get temp safe was to just lower the clock from 5ghz to 4.2Ghz (without undervolting) which resulted in 77 degrees temperatures in full 100% CPU load while rendering, which is kinda sad...the decrease in performance is significant.

Is there anyone out there able to help me with this issue, maybe advice or some sort of undervolt vs clockspeed scheme/combo that would work on my spec ? It would really mean a lot for me. Thank you in advance

    Alienware Wallpapers-OEMINFO

Don't forget to place the SystemLogo.bmp in the below folder:

    Code:
    C:\Windows\System32\oobe\OEM
You need to create the OEM folder as it won't be there

Also edit the OEMINFO.reg to change the Dell number to the one in your country and insert your service tag in the parentheses after the model number

Also don't forget to unblock the ZIP file from Properties before extracting it

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone could help me asap, wanted to do a clean install of windows from a windows USB, but on the boot menu when it gets to the hard drive part it doesn't detect my hard drives and gives me only the option to load driver. I am using RAID with 2x SK hynix 401, does anyone know what I should do? should i turn my raid on to AHCI in bios? I want to keep my raid. Does anyone have the drivers?

The latest Windows Media Creation tool when it creates a USB installer of the latest build of Windows which is 1903, it already has built in RAID Drivers and you should see your RAID drives, unless you created that USB installer of Windows using something else like Rufus and didn't properly set the options. I have your same SSDs in RAID 0 and I see the drives however I prefer to load the latest driver from the get go.. If you go into the IRST folder, you will see the RAID Driver, copy that folder to the USB Flash disk:

    Alienware Area-51m Drivers 11-Sep-19

I highly suggest you go through this guide before you do anything:

    Windows 10 Clean Installation Guide

Also, after downloading the drivers ZIP, before extracting it, make sure you unblock the ZIP file then only you can extract it otherwise every file that is extracted will have a BLOCKED status. See:

"Are you sure you want to run this file?" [Yes or No]

thank you so much I think I understand my issue now, I used my friends windows USB but its an official one with a windows box, but I think its more than 2 years old which explains the issue. I will download the latest build tonight and create a windows installer on my own USB. Thank you for the detailed reply, ill go through the guides.

    @RMLJD

Just plugged in my AKG earphones that came with my previous Galaxy S10e smartphone into the first port in the left corner, first port from the bottom, there is one port right above it and I didn't care to even check what that's for but as soon as I plugged it in, I got a notification on the bottom right corner saying what did I plug in, it said "headphones" by default so I left it at that and continued watching the serial I was watching using VLC Media Player. I then removed the left earphone from my ear and the sound was coming exactly the same from the right one.

    Using Realtek Audio Driver v6.0.8699.1
    Alienware Command Center v5.2.45.0
    Realtek Audio Control v1.3.179.0
    (from the Microsoft Store)

PS: also changing the Audio profile in the Command Center main page from Alienware Audio to Movie to Racing, etc, does indeed change the sound effects and the audio fidelity

sometimes it installs fines and sometimes all components would install except the USB-C driver OR PhysX then another try over the top and they would install but the Dell driver always installs fine.

I have yet to see any new review videos on the A51m. Everything is 5 months or older.

I will be buying another laptop in October and still hesitant about this option.

Also, I know it's kinda nit picky but the 2 different sized powerbricks are just retarded. I mean you give us a power brick and then throw in a stick of gum and call it another power brick. Atleast my GT75 has normal looking twins...

No offense bro, but that is the dumbest reason I've heard for not getting the best laptop on the market right now IMHO.

I've had mine since April and it's running like the first day I got it, superb temps after repasting with Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut and I don't even have any thermal pads, just a small -50mV undervolt on my 9900K. It has one of the best screens that I've owned on a laptop, one of the best keyboards, and the Alienware DNA which a lot of us still love.

If there is only one gripe about it, the speakers of the GT75/GT76 are better. These speakers are just average and the laptop doesn't have a subwoofer, that's retarded for a flagship model that costs an arm and a leg but there is no better laptop out there (excluding Clevos which I wouldn't touch for my own reasons i.e. crappy keyboard and driver support).

To give you a positive spin, I'd rather carry a large brick and a smaller one than having to worry about carrying 2 large ones. Makes things just a tad easier. Also, if you wanted to go somewhere just to watch a movie with friends or browse the net, a single power adapter is enough you only need both power adapters to give you the max performance like in games and whatnot.

It's the little things that throw my OCD nature into full on retard mode...lol

I am just used to my GT75 and its 2 bricks and the way it all sits on the hotels desk. Though plus side is there is no 2x1 adapter that is so stiff it takes up 7 inches in the rear before taking a 90deg turn.

fair enough, I have perfection OCD like you but here's the thing:

    1) my power bricks are under the laptop, my desk has a little shelf underneath where I placed them on it and I never see them, then the cable reaches out from the back of the desk through a little hole and connect to the laptop. Problem solved.

    2) With the beauty of this beast, the best lighting effects, the superb build quality, even if your power bricks are next to you, trust me, you will not wanna look anywhere but on the screen.

    3) let's be more realistic here like no car is perfect, no laptop is perfect, but we choose the best in the time we are in and right now, and again, IMHO and others may disagree, I see no better laptop in terms of performance when you couple it with the 9900K, build quality, next business day on site tech support, the ability to easily call Dell anywhere in the world and have the warranty transferred there free of charge so you can have it service wherever you may move to, that is priceless. Not to mention the ability to extend your warranty up to 4 years at any time even if not done during the time you purchase the machine.

Finally, let's not forget about Dell's warranty, in my experience with the Alienware 18 back in the day, if a year or 2 passes and something drastic happens to the machine, and most of the time they will not have all the parts needed, they'll give you a brand new current model laptop free of charge with matching or better specs.

Thank you. I have an okd set of astro cans. They have a 2 prong plug. On prong is for sound the other mic. It plus i to an adapter that has a 3 zone plug. I plugged my AT cans into the adapter and guess what....both channels work. So the question is is this a Hw issue, drivers....by design? Worth putting a ticket in?

I use one 240W when I'm travelling for work. I can still game fine, albeit not running maxed-out graphics...

Been playing with a new TCL 55" 4K TV and using it as a monitor...gotta say I missed the 4K life. Although my Radeon VII is just enough to game at 4k 60fps. Gotta try the internal 2080 later.

I formatted successfully, many thanks to ultra male for pointing me in the right direction, 1903 build on the USB worked flawlessly. In cinebench r15 I get 2017 and r20 I get 4400, I know there is still an undferlying problem with my system but this has helped for the time being.

Can anyone recomend a good cooling pad? One that actually has some impact?
