Yeah I knew about the SATA. So max is 8TB on the -51. 4TB SSD's are just crazy expensive though and M.2 only goes to 2TB.
I guess I should stop using 2 separate drives for Windows and Games. Though I am running a 2tb 860Evo SSD and with 8 games installed thus far I still have 1384GB left. OS sits on a 500GB m.2 and its got 388GB free. 1 500GB M.2 is not even formatted.

Plan is to wipe this GT75, Raid 0 the 2 500GB M.2 drives, put 2 partitions on it and "loan" it to the "household". Take the 2TB SSD out and put it into the new rig.

Did anyone got a decent spec for undervolting Alienware Area 51m (the i9 9900k version) ?
normally when you undervolt the cpu you get almost same cpu clock power for less heat
I tried undervolting it but for some reason unless I get the cpu clock speed to as low as 4,3 instead of 5.0, I cannot achieve under 80 Celsius temperatures in 100% cpu usage while I am rendering.

forget the 5GHz on all cores with long loads, my unit is completely stock, with the right undervolt I can perform aida64 extreme constantly and with comfortable temperatures to a maximum of 4.5GHz

Today, I got a replacement for my DGFF 2080 from Dell. It had the revised NCP-303150 on it and after installation, it ran my previous overclock profile just fine! I didn't have to tweak things around much all over again. It came from factory with old version of VBios which I upgraded. Temps on the new card are around 1.5 degree lower at full load as compared to previous one which I'll gladly take! :D It was a success overall and took me around 30 minutes to replace. I used the previous thermal pads over and was pleasantly surprised to see that all the thermal pads including the FujiPoly pads were still soft enough that I could re-use them. I will however take it apart again on the coming weekend in order to replace all thermal pads with brand new ones just to satisfy my OCD! :p

Got my area 51m today, tested some things with a moderate OC/UV. Running the latest bios and vbios (180W).
CPU is 9700k OC'd at 4.9Ghz all cores and UV'd to 1.1V.. GPU is RTX 2080 OC'd to 1900 Mhz core and 8000 Mhz (or 2000) memory at 0.900mV with no artifacts or black frames.Temps seem extremely low during the tests as in 50 C on CPU and 58 C on GPU with fans on full. I'm sure they'll rise during actual gaming though which I'll be testing in the next few days.
Don't mind the small amount of ram, I haven't installed my own SSD and ram sticks yet haha.

Not a great firestrike score but I'll live with it!

Bump that Vram right back down to stock unless you REALLY need it. I have seen these VRAMs sustain permanent damage due to OC as they are already clocked very high. Also, beef up your cooling and thermal pads before you dive into any OC at all unless you are willing to waste time in repairs.

Why edit out your findings. The picture of your killed graphics shows vRam dying. Could even be from overheating/fried VRMs. 0A7070E4-B375-4E52-98FE-EC207E04C582.png
Many OC vRam on last gen graphics without this outcome(GDDR6 memory is good overclockers and handle it well). And you can’t even add voltage on newer NVidia cards.

I remember watching a video on the 2080 artifacts and how by underclocking the vram the artifacts subsided again. That's still only a temp solution, as IIRC the early GDDR6 chips were faulty and would rapidly degrade.

My next question - To raid0 or not? I have never setup a raid before, should I keep it that way? Will I see much if any benefit at all by setting up my 2 x 1tb drives in raid 0?

I had initially planned to run them separately, one for OS and applications, the other for games and the SSD for storage.

At the speeds of nvme drives it’s not huge speed wise. I always find my system to be snappier in Windows when raid 0 with 2 drives. Plus I personally hate having program files
On and drive and remember to install apps for d or e. I like have 1 big c drive for everything to go to. A lot of people have raid 0 because non redundancy. Doesn’t bother me and I back up important files and image my clean bare load with Macrium. And knock on wood, haven’t had a issue with raid0 on any system in the last 15 years. Even backnin the day with my desktop using Adaptec RAID controllers I had good luck..

I'm looking to clean install once the laptop arrives, is it easy enough to implement raid0 and at what stage do I turn this on?

in msi afterburner when undervolting gpu..is there a way to grab all of the frequency/voltage dots on the graph after you have set the first. It's so tedious doing it dot by dot.

If the laptop you got coming is already set up for Raid, then its a simple as downloading the latest 1903 windows onto a flash drive using the drive tool from microsoft. Any earlier and I dont think it will recognise your raid driver and you wont get past the drive screen. I clean installed mine 2 days ago using 1903, went flawless and the RAID works perfectly.

All Dell laptops come setup in RAID mode even if it was ordered as a single drive, they always give you an OS setup in RAID mode.

Soon I will be acquiring a new most recent Dell Factory Image for the Alienware Area-51m with the most updated drivers/OS Build at least as per the time of the production of that system. Anyone interested in this image for me to upload it?

I would definitely, mine due here on the 19th so I have a few days. The only difference is that mine has the Killer 1550, as opposed to the 1650 I think you have. I can easily grab those drivers from the Dell site though.

    1) My laptop originally shipped with the Killer 1550 and I then upgraded it to the 1650

    2) The drivers for the 1650 and 1550 are exactly the same

Bro, Are you happy you was forced to go for the Dark color? As you can see... The White color is also a big problem for the new thin Alienware models. Not only for Area-51m.

If you’re debating on Lunar Light you may want to think twice. This happened after two weeks of light usage. I never ate around this device, always had clean hands. This is not a hate post, it’s just a friendly reminder of what you’re getting into. Nothing would remove it.

Alienware Area-51m Factory Image (Sep 2019)
OS Build: Windows 10 Build 1903

    Macrium Reflect Rescue Disk ISO

NOTE: Before you do anything, right click on the file, go to properties, then hit the UNBLOCK checkbox from the bottom right in case the file was blocked since it was downloaded from the internet otherwise all the files within the image will also contain a blocked status leading to an erroneous restore.

Also ensure you do the same for Macrium Reflect Rescue Disk before using it to copy the ISO to a USB Flash Disk

You can use Rufus to burn the Macrium Reflect Rescue Disk and also copy the Factory Image on the USB Flash disk if it fits or keep it somewhere safe

Appreciate any advice. My 51m has 2 NVMe sticks installed (RAID 0), and I’d like to add an SSD. Can anyone recommend or point me to a top-end drive in terms of speed and capacity AND a guide for installing it in the 51m?

Hey mate, have a look at this guide by Alienware -

In terms of the drive, I think Samsung PRO SSD's are classed as the fastest / most reliable. I think the 970 maybe the latest version, however the 960 should also do a great job for you.

EDIT: As mentioned by @Wild Turkey the EVO range is also really good.

I've have a Crucial MX500 waiting to go in mine, it has decent enough speeds for a storage device.

Haha my bad, I was referring to SATA SSD's. I just assumed it would be taken that way. Samsung drives are way too expensive for me so I haven't bothered to keep tabs on which version they're on.... sorry haha

Hi Ultra Male, is that AWCC applicable to any new AW machine (ex. can i install it on my m15?) or is it a dedicated one for the m51?

I was looking at compatible processors earlier today. I believe that the i9-9900T is LGA1151 and I believe it is compatible with the Intel Chipset that is in this laptop. (Verify these things for yourself.) But the benefit here: A little less top-end performance (4.5 Ghz Max, but you might be able to overclock it) but it is a 35W TDP processor... that is a LOT less thermal!

That would be 10-20% performance loss (or less if you are able to overclock) for almost 1/3 of the heat being generated. (That performance is being compared to a i7-9700 here: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-9900T-vs-Intel-Core-i7-9700/m821464vsm816180 )

Just wanted to share something I thought was interesting.

So I've been doing some testing and my 9700k runs pretty hot - like 90 + degrees in battlefield 1. When I test it with intelburntest the temps vary significantly and jump within 1 second from 65/70 to 90 then thermal throttle. This is at 4.9 ghz and -0.130v UV. Seems stable at the that voltage but I think these temps are abnormal. Maybe they goobered the thermal paste? Or possible faulty hardware?

Definitely seems high, my 9700K with stock paste from the factory runs 5Ghz -90mv and I have never seen my peak temp go above 83C in any game. Most games it stays in the 70s. Gears 5 which keeps my CPU pegged at about 70 to 85 percent load for hours is also no problem and temps stay below 83C. This is with the balanced fan setting.

So guys. I bought the huge 780w eurocom psu for my 51m and it works great. But i wonder did they ever correct the issue with the undersized adapter? Even at max pull in game I'm under 300w on the 51m. Hopefully they've fixed it so the system at least uses all available power plugged into it. Or is it still acting the same regardless of which single psu is plugged in?
