Technically it should run fine so long as the bios has the microcode to support the processor. Maybe you would have to use bios 1.7.3 as that is the same general time frame that desktop boards got their bios updates to support 9900KS. Either way Micro Center does have that return policy!

9900ks has the iGPU enabled. I'm guessing you are thinking of the 9900kf because the iGPU works fine on my machine with the 9900ks installed.

Also, iirc, when I disabled the hd630, PCIe / TB3 doesn't work anymore. I can try this again later today to confirm.

    Hey Spartan!

I'm one of those that did appreciate what you were doing for all of us with your Area-51m Driver thread, so first and foremost; thank you. I was sad to see that thread go, but I want to ask you a favor.

I wiped my drive clean and reinstalled my OS with a SupportAssist USB drive. To my surprise the Alienware OEM info is gone from the System properties page :(. Aside from that, I had everything else theme-wise or branding-wise backed up and my PC is looking pretty slick in its full AW glory.

Could you please hook me up with the original registry entries and logo that you had posted on that thread? I can see why you would've removed the content from the links when you closed the thread, but I'm hoping you still have the files with you. I tried DMing you but couldn't.

I appreciate it! Many thanks in advance.

    Alienware OEMINFO-Wallpapers

After you download the file, and before you extract it, make sure to UNBLOCK it by right clicking on the ZIP file > Properties > then choose UNBLOCK from the bottom right, then hit APPLY then OK to exit. If you don't do this, all the files that you extract will have a BLOCKED status.

For more info about this and how to prevent files from automatically being blocked when downloading them, see: "Are you sure you want to run this file?" [Yes or No]

I'm looking for a premium sleeve for the alienware m15 r2.
If no sleeve it could be like an as slim as possible topload carrying case.
E.g. for my alienware 13 r3. I have the Neoprene sleeve, which is great for simple carriage. And I have my Targus executive 14" Topload laptop case.
I see that Alienware does sell a sleeve for the m15 r2 as accessory, but it doesn't mention m15 r2, it only mentions like alienware 15 r2. But that is a significantly thicker and larger laptop relatively in terms of 15 inch laptops. So I want it to be an as snug fit as possible.

    Anyone knows anything good?

    EDIT: Sorry wrong topic.

    Hi All,

Can anyone advise as to what exactly the bios battery settings do??

For example, the difference between "adaptive" and "primarily AC"

    Thank you.

+1, I have mine on primarily AC, but don’t really see any “smart” charging behavior, like charging between 60-80% or other things I’ve read extend battery longevity.

I had it on primarily AC, but have since changed it to custom and set my own parameters from recommendations on here, I think its 60 and 80.

I have mine set to charge only under 50% and then only to 80%. I have no idea if this will prolong battery health to be honest, but my 17R4 had horrible battery wear issues so I will try whatever I can to prevent battery wear on this one.

Not a bad idea... according to this pretty in depth paper/article about LiPo batteries, depth of discharge (how much you let the battery discharge in one go) is the most important aspect of battery longevity, as well as temperature.

From the several figures in there, the 50%-to-80% charge/discharge range seems to have some merit!!! Haha

    I’m doing something similar

Yeah the battery health issues and the expanding batteries that were seeing across the board from every manufacturer are concerning to say the least. It's time for someone to invent something new...and safer.

Definitely go with the black as you did. I’m an idiot for going with the white (first time I’ve bought something white, like black or white iPhone, I ALWAYS have gone for black). I bought my 51m white thinking the paint and materials (magnesium alloy, etc) would be *premium* and long lasting. Boy was I wrong. The paint/finish is prone to absorbing colors (from sweat/from wiping it with a dark cloth) and the stains CANNOT be removed, google and check this. This is my ONLY quarrel with this laptop. I’ve got a vinyl skin on it since I got my first very minor stain... super disappointing! Fortunately my laptop only has a tiny and faint stain.

I wish I could purchase and swap out the chassis, but the screen is a complete assembly, so I’d have to buy a whole display assembly and the chassis parts (bottom, frame, keyboard, touchpad). Too much trouble to bother with... next and every future system will be black for me, as it should have been... still feeling like an idiot.

FYI to anyone thinking about buying this beast but is on the fence... I am considering selling it and buying an R2 in black when it releases. DM me if interested

You will probably need to rollback the BIOS to 1.5.0 and therefore likely to lose g sync

The problems I had were thermals. I didn't want to roll back the BIOS as a long-term solution and no matter what I tried I couldn't get undervolting to work and so it thermally throttled, and hard. World of Warcraft went from 160 FPS+ to 50 or so. (Settings 10) even on performance fan.

I sent it back. My advice is to try it, hard, for the period during which you can return it and decide if you can get it working as you want it to. I couldn't accept a premium device that I had to tweak (unsuccessfully) to behave

But many here make it work so good luck!

I have the bios set to primary AC use and i notice it´s always around 79% battery all the time.

I think the white color is only for people like me, who have it stationary next to a external screen/keyboard, it's 9 months old now and i don't have any yellow stains.

I do want to get the 610M white version because it matches so well but i'm affraid that will discolor very quickly

I got LTSC and you were absolutely right brother. It's night and day difference. All that useless bloat, gone!
I ran O&O to do the usual tweaks, do you have any performance scripts you might share? Or point me in the right direction.
Last thing I need to do is do service tweaks, is blackviper still the go to on this?

    Thanks again :)

Yes, Black Viper works good. I really like using ESO and creating profiles with varying levels of things disabled for benching. https://www.sordum.org/8637/easy-service-optimizer-v1-2/

You can disable a lot of rubbish for benching that might provide useful functionality for day-to-day, but really impairs benching. Examples are NVIDIA Control Panel and M$ Office Click-to-Run services. Both of those bog down benching. ESO can disable them is a couple of mouse clicks once you have the profiles set up. You can add services if any are missing in the list as well.

I am in the market to buy the Area51m, and was wondering if I am getting a good deal.
    $3560

    I9900k
    2080
    1tb raid (2x512)
    1tb hybrid sshd
    4 year accident
    4 year theft,
    4 year premium warranty
    8gb ram(Will put in 32gb Corsair for ~$140)
(I am in Japan, and the staff are useless for ram upgrade price matching. On the us site I had a match to 32 gb free......but owell.)
    The rest all standard.
    What do you guys think?

They Will Install me a new motherboard tomorrow since mine died.

I Will try to tell the tech Guy to dont update me the BIOS and stick with 1.3.2 or 1.5.0 so I dont have the problem of the GPU going down at 78°.

How Can I have all the updates from Windows but evade Windows from update my BIOS automatically?

Will really Windows upgrade my BIOS?

Yeah Windows update will update your BIOS. You need to disable a setting within the BIOS to stop it from happening. Let me double-check the setting and let you know.

@Silverfeyn - you need to disable UEFI Capsule Updates, check out this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-owners-lounge.826831/page-1202#post-10917552 , that should stop Windows update pulling down any new BIOS.

I haven't been on that page in a while and didn't see that $5 deal. My Dell Rep quoted £35 and admitted it was a lot for what it is. The aftermarket one has been doing ok, both M.2's stay around the same temps.

Mines is pretty much identical to this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aluminum-H...574760996&sprefix=m.2+ssd+heat,aps,272&sr=8-7

I can't find the exact one but will try and do so after work. I had to put mine into the slot closer to the middle of the laptop as the cover wouldn't fully snap into place when it was in the slot next to the battery.

Not that exact one but it looks more or less identical, I haven't checked the measurements etc. on the one posted. @QUICKSORT doesn't have the A51m anymore so not sure the sizing would even matter as we have different machines.

Just ordered the m15 r2 today. It has a 2TB single drive in it. So Am pretty certain the 2nd slot will be empty without a heatsink.
I have at home my 1tb 970 pro, which I will be using as the Main OS drive. And the 2TB as an extra drive for other stuff, but Ideally wanted heatsinks on both. And I think the clearance should be rather similar for the m15 r2 and the A51m, for the ssd drives, if not a little less clearance for the m15 r2 (which is quite likely, so the more low profile, the better of course. But indeed also 35 pounds is kinda stupid.).

Someone knows which option I need to deactivate to avoid Windows to upgrade the BIOS?

Not too sound like a jerk, but shouldn't you be posting this stuff in the m15 r2 forums?

Well it was another question that escalated to that post, and I also remember that it was mentioned in this forum back when I had my area 51m, about ssd heatsinks. And the heatsinks used for the m.2 drives are the same for the Area 51m and the m15 r2 laptops.
So I went ahead and asked here.

    Sorry

Sorry, I edited my last response to you and also provided Rep with the details as well. UEFI Capsule Updates is the option that needs to be disabled.

I can't find the exact one on Amazon, its 3mm thick and as mentioned it only fits in the slot nearest the centre of the machine. Not sure how the cover/slots will differ on the M15.
