    Did you start out with 190w VBIOS or did you flash with NVFKASH ?

    how do you undervolt cpu on throttlestop (I want to adjust mine -100mv)? I've done it before on the Intel XTU application but don't see where the voltage offset line item is on Throttlestop.

    Curious about that Thermaltake Massive 20 RGB cooling pad - what do you run it on and what angle during testing, and how much do you think it helps in keeping temperatures inline?

    Thank you, I assume whatever voltage you straighten out the curve on is the undervolt?

    If you open the FIVR tab and play with the options I've highlighted. It should have the same within CPU Cache.

    Is there anyway to find out what causes a random re-start, I can't find anything within the event viewer nor the reliability monitor or than an entry on restart that says the previous shut down was unexpected. I'm not sure if its coincidence but it seems to happen when playing one game in particular but as said I'm not sure if thats the cause or its just down to how much I play that game and that it happens at those times.

    Need to know if its software related or a call to Dell about hardware.

    Has anyone dealt with the GPU suddenly throttling down to 300MHz after a few minutes of gameplay or stress testing? No matter what I do with the undervolt, it stays that way unless I switch the Alienware Command Center thermal preset (and then it gets back to normal for a few minutes).

    Do you think -115mv is too high for x50 all cores? I might up it to -100mv and monitor.

    Is there anywhere I can check that would confirm its related to an instability such as voltage/frequency?

    Yes, this is a well known issue with the newer BIOS' which have a thermal limit inbuilt of around 75-78c.

    You can roll back to BIOS 1.5.0 to eliminate this thermal limit, however, in doing so you risk losing G-Sync if you have a newer Chi Mei panel.

    If you'd prefer to keep everything as is in way of BIOS, you could set the GPU thermal limit to 78c in AWCC and it should prevent the GPU from throttling so aggressively, at least it does for me and some others.

    Mine was unstable past -110mv

    I have tried 3 or 4 different one name brand and several generics they all seem about the same / none of them are what you would consider “ serious “ as far as the amount of air they move / all seem to be able to lower 1-3 degrees in most situations.

    I think it’s more of a placebo really but I enjoy getting the laptop up off the table and angled.

    Excellent thanks mate, maybe been riding my luck for a while. I'm going to try -100mv and monitor. Thanks again

    @Lopt I use a Notepal U3 cooling pad, again if anything the fans reduce temps by a couple of degrees. But it can be upgraded with desktop fans etc. to get even more air flowing.

    I'm a noob, sorry, what exactly is this and how do I confirm it for you?

    That is sort of how I got to where I am bro, it seems to only happen once a week and each time its happened its been on the same game. I'll give -100mv a shot and see how that lasts in the coming weeks. Thanks bro

    Use TS bench and read the voltage in TS while test is running.

    the UV number says nothing without the load voltage:

    stock Voltage - UV = load voltage

    i9 9900k 5ghz (A51m) load voltage:

    less than 1.19v= golden sample
    1.25v and less = great
    1.3v and less= good
    1.35v and less= average
    Bluescreen = garbage

    i7 9700k should run this similar voltage, since 9900k is better binned

    if your -115mv result in 1.2v or less than its no wonder that you have problems.

    I think there's a lot of trial and error that people have created knowledge over the years. If you have the patience to read through and do some experimenting on your system, this may help too... http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-throttlestop-guide.531329

    Well for me anyway, I’m OLD I’ll be 61 this year, and I’ve been spending way to much time on computers all my life ( ask my Wife )

    My first real computer was an Apple II with a cassette drive, first PC was a 286, I’ve been building my own PC’s since the 286, went Mac a few years after the neutered Celeron chips were released ( my last build was a Celeron that I had to lay a trace on the motherboard to unlock the CPU and basically got same OC speeds as the top end CPU’s Intel was selling at the time for 1/3 of the price ) was the hot processor, and only got back into Windows nonsense 1-2 years ago with a Predator Helios 300, ( there were too many good games that I could not get running on Mac )

    IMO hardware has gotten fantastic, Windows sucks worse then ever, and game companies don’t even get me started. :)

    I read a good article with testing on this and basically from 2400 to 2666 if a game uses much memory then it helps a like 5% or so at best. Going up to 3200 or so it can be higher, but its not the norm. Most games are more GPU dependent, so the frames aren't as affected, but to see any real gain you need to hit that 2933 level... Not worried at 2400 tbh, down in the range the 2070/2080 hits the move to 2666 or 2933 is minimal even for a memory intensive game.

    Man, I feel so lucky with my A51. I have tinkered with TS, XTU and Afterburner and for me, doing my OC and undervolt via AWCC just works.

    I run 5.1 on the CPU w/-100uv, and +160 on the GPU clock, and CPU temps with intense games span 79-84 across the 8 cores and GPU maxes at 80c but never throttles. When I say throttle, I mean, it doesn't drop clock to like 300 like it did on every bios other than the 1.5.0.

    I was torn between getting the 9900k and the 9700K and am so glad I went for the 9700K w/2080 GPU instead because I was sure from all my reading here that the 9900k would require a lot of effort to run a high daily OC. Not that you really need the highest clocks in real life, but what fun is it not trying :) I just though 8 cores with hyper threading in this form factor would be a serious challenge to get the kind of clocks I would want to see as a daily use machine.

    My tower is due for upgrades at some point because it is running a 3930k on an ASUS Rampage IV mobo but the cooling is tricked out with two radiators, two pumps, 1080ti hybrid, and I ran a daily OC of 4.6Ghz but since the A51 has pretty much retired that tower, I won't rebuild it again for at least a couple of years.

    I feel bad for you guys struggling for the highest clocks with lowest temps but I fear that unless you are very lucky, you will need to accept having a laptop that only allows a moderately abusive OC vs. really exceeding design limits, still puts you way ahead of the average desktop water-cooled system out here today. And I get it that some are not able to get a non-throttling experience out of the box. Neither was I, but just simply using the 1.5.0 bios was the fix for me.

    Any of you guys know how Evoc is able to keep the same FPS under full load with only 1 brick plugged? Bob showed it in his review but not sure how that works. Also when you do that, is the battery able to charge up or is it draining? If it's charging up, then why do you even need 2 bricks? Even if it's draining though, this is very impressive IMO.

    Also will Evoc release a new version this year with 10 core intel for example?

    Think I may grab that Thermaltake cooling pad that was discussed on the last page. I have some random chinese one right now, and it's very loud (not even talkin about the sound of a fan pushing air, the bearing itself is awful and cheap sounding) and the LEDs only have one mode that can't be disabled: bright blue.

    "Evoc" is a re-seller branded Clevo. They (HIDevolution) only differ from other Clevos by having a custom bios by Prema.

    To answer your questions: In short, Gaming does not require the power draw that Bench-marking and other practices like virtual machines do.

    Most games take less power from CPU than GPU (BOB is playing Battlefield for his review). High intensity games will take more than a 330W can offer... but we are talking a 10% or so FPS gain by drawing more power (at the same build specs). More often than not, Laptop LGA builds run into thermal limits before power.

    The conversation is a little different for 4K Gaming...

    As for the A51M, Dell has yet to address the 1 Power brick throttle problem. Properly designed, our machine should draw full power from 1 brick. However they seem to limit the GPU on 1 Brick artificially. It may be how power is routed from the bricks on the MB (thus not fixable). It translates to about low end "Max-Q" power from gaming. Serviceable, but irritating.

    As for 10 Core... The next gen Clevo has been announced as the X170... specs unreleased till Q2 2020 when Nvidia releases their mobile refresh.

    I would be surprised if Alienware doesn't announce a R2 A51M around September

    Thanks that seems really good. But even with 2 bricks 51m hits thermal throttling right? That's a shame for this laptop.

    Btw anyone is using the single 780W brick from eurocom? I would prefer that over 2 bricks and if I am not wrong, the single brick was lighter than 2 small bricks of 51m 1.4kg vs 2.2kg?

    Ok hard throttle came back GPU drops to 300’s for EVER or at least longer than I am willing to wait I gave it 5 mins and gave up, even though GPU temp was down to 56c for that entire time the MHz never recovered.

    So it’s back to BIOS 1.5.0 and no Gsync for me, I’ll just lock the frame rate to 144 to match the screen, I doubt my old eyes can see the difference anyway.

    I gave it my best shot,
    I tried everything I could to get this working Stock and it’s just unusable on current high end games utilizing RTX with BIOS 1.8.1 and probably all the rest after 1.5.0.

    In my experience your best bet is to downgrade to bios 1.5.0 and run vbios 180w and set AWCC to 79c for max GPU temp. This is what I do, and even though my GPU consistently pulls slightly above 180w and also taps 80c, it never throttles to the slow fps.

    I'm just not sold on the whole XTU, Throttle Stop and Afterburner route on this laptop. Setting the system startup settings just right plus, after-sleep settings, and just finicky stuff you need to do to make all those apps work together are not worth the effort, at least in my case. AWCC set to max UV and voltage for [email protected], +160 OC on GPU clock and call it a day. I rarely OC vid card memory. Usually causes more heat though no reallno gain to speak of). I can also set CPU to 5.2Ghz by decreasing UV and increasing core voltages, but I have no need to do that. I just want stable+cool as possible, but fast as possible too.

    My 2080 is not golden as some can set it to +200. I can go higher than +160 but do did get a few events that made me bump it down to 160. I'm sure the happy spot is somewhere in between, but I don't need to find that spot.

    BIOS 1.5.0 has 87 degree gpu temp limit ;) no need to hassle with AwCC

    Do not use to many different Tools. TS and Afterburner is enough. Xtu is too buggy

    it is disabled. A51m cant use IGPU as the Nvidia GPU is directly connected to the display (reason is gsync)

    Does it not spring into life when using a display via the Thunderbolt port? Either way, its not going to reduce CPU heat by disabling it?

    Right, with TB display you can use IGPU but then the Nvidia is disabled. If you use the Nvidia GPU the IGPU is disabled.

    I've seen a lot of misinformation about the g-sync support...

    The bios update to support g-sync is for external monitors.

    Intenal g-sync works fine on bios 1.5 (assuming you bought a g-sync panel model)

    Also no need to "lock framerate" if you are talking external monitor... that is what V-sync does.

    I thought it was the new panels (Chi Mei) only, that lost G-Sync as the BIOS doesn't recognise that panel fully due to it not being within Dells inventory at the time of release.

    That was my understanding - the Gsync only works on the original panels, folks like myself with the alter Chi Mei panel are out of luck - is this not correct in all cases?

    If it can work with the new Chi Mei panel and provide Gsync then I would definitely give dropping back to 1.5.0 a shot....

    x170 seems like it's not top of the line no? Only i7?

    Also when do you guys think we will have pci e gen 4 ssds available for laptops internally? If not then externally only thunderbolt is possible right? And if so, I have a hard time finding TB3 enclosure for these gen 4 drives.

    For my work the IO speed of gen 4 would be a big boost.

    I done the tests, you can see below my average VID for the 3 benchmarks at 64, 256 and 1024 in TS. Watching the VID it was around 1.19-1.23. Based on this should I up the UV to around -100 instead of -115?

    Yeah, I'm in the same position if there is anyway G-Sync can work on 1.5.0 then I'd roll back and forget about anything else. I need to stop trying to mod this and start just enjoying it haha.

    Yeah, as far as I could see on TS and HWInfo64.

    In relation to a UV what type of throttling would you expect to see, would it be Power Limit?

    I'm at -100mV now, thanks again for the help and advice.

    yeah looks like minor, very small Power throttle.

    tested the same without HT

    4.8ghz
    64m=6,291
    256M=24,625
    1024M=96,825

    5ghz
    64M=6,042
    256M= 23,860
    1024M= 95.079

    5.2ghz
    64M= 5,853
    256M= 23.028
    1024M=92,477

    You can confirm the Power throttle by running 5.2ghz. that easily hits 150w. If there is No throttle than maybe some Software is doing background tasks

    My machine goes into meltdown the minute I set it at 5.2ghz, I think I lost the silicon lottery as they say.
