Bump for Lordvader who needs to know a little more about Gaming mouse.

That was a really informative read, and I agree with everything you say, except that I ignore all that common sense in my mice selection.
I use to play a lot of CS 1.6 and CS:S, and lately, TF2. I suppose I fall somewhere between casual and more serious gaming. I've always used wireless mice, and more laser mice than optical mice.
I'm currently on a MX Revolution, and loving every second of it. -
I like this cos it gives me a option of both
& I wish more companys came out with this Idea
Would be nice to have a gaming mouse this kind

seems like i ll have to add information about Razer Mamba.
the first wireless gaming mouse with 1 ms response time. -
I just want to say this guide is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (+rep)
Great job man, looks like a lot of work, and you recently updated it
I was thinking of buying my first gaming mouse, and a search of notebook review brought me here
After reading, and looking around at shops locally, it came to the Diamondback 3G and MX518
I went with MX518 as it was less expensive and I'm getting it soon
Thanks for the guide, looking forward to the headphone guide -

Thank you for all the information on mouse, I want to buy one and it'll be really useful for me while buying, I prefer logitech.
-
and NBR members are from US and around the world in Asia also.
personally i have heard about them but havent tried them.
the mice i listed in the guide are all the ones i have tried and used...except Mamba..which i have only seen but not used for Gaming. -
Logitech mice are great in terms of performance, pricing and innovations such as weight cartridge but they are not very durable imo.
i bought an MX518 1800 DPI model for my bro few months back..and already it has developed wear n tear.
whereas my deathadder is in perfect shape and its more than a year old..and having been brutally used for competitions..matches...8 hour gaming sessions.
so i think i wud like to give Razer a credit for their build quality...expensive but durable -

You have a fantastic review of the main mouses. I am hoping if you can also review the by Gigabyte GM-M8000. It has a good review in the UK and was wondering if you can review it.
I have a criteria which I like your advice on. As most peple, i been through loads of keybaords macro programmable ones. Of recent I realised that the technology incorporated into the programmable mouse has moved into the state where macros are permissible to be added into the mouse hardware. I call it the Clever Mouse, learns all the tricks and performs to spec. It is great until you realise that not all manufacturers have recognise the important of a gaming mouse with good macro learning facilities. I dont mean complicated macros with nesting factilities, just simple multi keys sequence such as Alt+Ctril+F1, Alt+Ctrl+F2, .... up to 6 perhaps.
I run games from a laptop and having this Clever Mouse will improving gaming, in fact I am thinking of desktop with standard keyboards and letting the mouse do all the work will be great.
I have Razer Lachesis mouse sadly I have to conclude that macro facility is very poor. I am looking for advise in how to maximise that facility from Razer and they reply no support go to forum. I came across a review in the Custom PC Magazine on the Gigabyte GM-M8000 mouse and indicated a good macro system as well as other comparable features that is expected in a gaming mouse. However I am no expert on gaming mouse.
I did purchase the Gigabyte GM-M8000 with some reservations but compare to buying the Mamba I think it was a lesser risk. After a few minutes of experimenting the macro facitlites that came with the mouse, it does exactly what I wanted. I just wonder how logitech and MS fare at this. -
wireless mice are garbage for gaming. google mouse objective benchmarks, some of the expensive mice are the worse and cheap mice the best. You need a low res mouse for fps. some of the best mice are basic ones like mx518.\
razers are also garbage.
don't take my word, look at the benchmarks. -

Great informative thread.
Now, could a Mod please unban Nocturnal???
Thanks -
roccat kone is like a prototype and is full of design flaws like for instance the infamous scrollwheel problem.
In short it looks cool, it feels great, durability is crap. -
im useing Roccat Kone & have no Issues
only when i got it last year it did not support Vista 64bit
now it has updated drivers & works fine -
When i returned it to the store I bought it in they said they experienced a lot of returns with this mouse.
It's a prototype it's weak, i didnt smash my scroll wheel with a hammer I used it mostly while reading stuff on the internet so not much wear and tear there.
You can say it's bull but a lot of people have had problems with this mouse so I call bull back on you, sir.
I did keep the 1337 card which was included with this gimmicky mouse when I returned it cause well it shows that im leet ofc.
It's an impotent mouse in a slick package, maybe you got lucky and got the viagra-enhanced version which didnt have a limp scrollwheel lucky you. -
"i didnt smash my scroll wheel with a hammer I used it mostly while reading stuff on the internet"
You must have MONSTER hands  hahaha
I use my mouse everyday for GAMING
no Issues at all -
Guys, lets not buy in to marketing here. if you really want ot know aobut good gaming mice look at the sniper and fps guide written by competitive gamers.
here's the mouse objective benchmarks. 28 pages of enlightening info. The best mice were some of the cheapest ones (not avail ne more)
http://www.esreality.com/?a=longpost&id=1265679&page=22
heres one example of competitive setups. The guys has over 450 hours as sniper class alone

Razer made the deathadder after the mouse benchmark article in which they switched back to optical (for some reason). They marketed as "1800 dpi 3G infrared sensor" LASER suck, optical has always been better and is absolutely proven in no uncertain terms for FPS gaming.
Here's a video of a highly skilled shooter with a proper mouse setup.

I am going to have to agree with LordVader. I am getting a Roccat Kone and I live in states. I straight up asked and said I am not going to buy it if the thing just breaks and their is no support. They replied something along the lines of they weren't going to BS me that they have had some "minor" problems with the scroll wheel but they eased my fears when they said it was a very small percent of users that had this issue. So with that said I will be getting my Roccat Kone with my Tusko bag in about a month! Woot! -
mamba might have the highest dpi but it seems MS x8 has a higher refreshing rate, that might help on accelerations
but this is a great article -
How can you agree with lordvader when you don't have even have (had) the mouse lol.
You don't have hands on experience with that item.
But anyways good luck with the mouse I hope it doesnt break on you.
As for saying what I say is bs the company itself even says they have a problem lol.
this is a bit of a necro but yeah i was on holidays. -
Hi Guys!
I have some problems. I used to have made in china mouse and it always breaks down after a few months. ? I play RTS and RPG a lot. I read lots of reviews about MX518 and G5 but I can't decide which one to pick since I don't play FPS much. I did read too about DeathAdder but most users said it wasn't durable so I don't wanna pick it. Can you guys suggest me a durable mouse? I want it to be extremely durable and last for several years. Thanks
Cheers! -
Logitech and Razer mice come with a 2 year warranty. While I haven't had any experience with Razer customer service, Logitech has been very good at replacing any problems I've had with minimum amount of fuss.
-

Not sure where you heard about the DeathAdder having durability issues...I have an original 1,800 DPI model DeathAdder from 2007 that still works (and looks) like new. The new 3,500 DPI model is top notch as well. And if anything should ever go wrong, Razer service is top-notch.
If it has to be between the MX518 or G5, I would go with the MX518. I prefer optical sensors to lasers, as they generally have a significantly higher perfect control speed with almost the same DPI. It's cheaper, and a superior mouse in my opinion. The only thing I prefer about the G5 is the grip material. -
-
In the end simply which mouse you prefer, unless there are recalls or a HUGE HUGE HUGE amount of complaints its not an issue -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
OCZ Eclipse lol.

If you can, go to Best Buy; they generally have some gaming mice on display that anyone can feel. This usually includes a Razer DeathAdder and a Logitech MX518 or G5, so you can get an idea of what you like.
-
. There are lots of store like Best Buy but they don't offer display mice because most of people here are not gamers or anything like that they just need a Made In China mouse for updating their facebook and twitter status
-
-
I mean, my palms get pretty sweaty, but aside from the cables, I literally cannot tell my 2007 DeathAdder from my new 3,500 model.

This IS a well written guide but I would like to dispute the fact that optical is better than laser for gaming. You talk about the lift-off sensivity being a problem, however the whole idea is that when gaming, you DON'T lift your mouse off the mousemat. Ever. If you're lifting the mouse off the mousemat you need a bigger mousemat and/or a better mouse. Yes, you might do this if you game at low sensivity but especially for the likes of FPS gaming it is NOT good if you're lifting the mouse off at all.
I just find lasers to be better at tracking (or rather, more precise at tracking).
Plus, I do wonder who came up with his DPI estimates. He calls 1000DPI high sensivity gaming? I'd consider that low; I game at 3200DPI all the time, all while being extremely accurate. -
Hey guys, is Logitech's Mini Optical and Mini Optical Plus the same? If not, could you tell me the difference?
-
there's an error in the guide, the G9 is more claw grip, then palm rest.
being a high sensitivity claw grip player myself i own a G9
The creative fatality mouse (now discontinued) was a great claw grip mouse too, but it was rubbish in quality, I broke 3 in two years time ...
there aren't many good claw grip gaming mice out there unfortunatly ... -
-
I am really happy with my G9 -
-
I don't think lifting is good, and i also game at 3200 DPI, makin' headshots with no problem at all.
But everyone has a different style of playing, and no style is better or worse, its all personal taste, same goes for mice, thats why we have so many different flavours, if one technology would be superior, it would be the only one on the market... -
Anyone able to comment on how large the Sidewinder X8 is? Was thinking of getting it, since the Mamba is too large for my hand, and I'm looking for a wireless gaming mouse.
-
Ah, so.... huge. I use a claw grip on my current Logitech V470 Bluetooth, so I've looked at the Orochi, but my desktop won't have bluetooth, and using it with a wire would defeat the purpose of the Orochi.
