Now that tracking is fixed, what concerns me is the "going-to" and "resuming-from" Sleep mode.
Many users reported that after a brief period of time , the mouse goes in sleep mode to save battery power, and after it's a pain in the *ss to have it wake up again (apparently is needed to move the mouse for 10 seconds to wake it up from sleep mode). Can you confirm/infirm Balance?
(if you can calculate the time with a stopwatch, it would be great)

1) move v400, then leave it along, use trackpoint to continue working.
2) wait for 1 min for not touching the v400.
3) put up the windows's clock, and move the v400.
I notice no delay at all for the mouse movement.
I want to point out: I have not tested extensively of the different surfaces for the tracking. since red dot fits the need most of the time.
however, i think v400 is now qualified for a go for purchase. the build-quality is much better than the MS v6000 (laser too).
PS. I do not work for logitech! -
-
-
Coriolis, can I ask where you are buying this mouse from since we're both in Canada?
-
battery life is unknown. tracking is fine. The wheel is a little bit loose. You need to bent the index fingure to about 75 degree to press the back button. As long as you keeps moving the mouse, everything is fine. I use it to play Warcraft 3.
-
I bought it from an online retailer, but they took it off, I, technically, bought it last November LOL!
-
wow... a thread about a freaking mouse has over 40,000 views
i'm not sure whether to be impressed or to be afraid for the continuation of the species... -
I have one on the way from Amazon it should be here in two days.
-
Bought an Orange v400 (in the UK) for my notebook which is running Windows XP SP2, and I am also using Bluetooth and WIFI (802.11g) connectivity.
1/ The tracking is very smooth, and I have had no issues.
2/ Mouse sensitivity is a mute point as it is fully configurable via the Control Panel or the Logitech Setpoint software (once installed).
3/ Suffered no interference effecting mouse usage alongside Bluetooth and WIFI. The wireless mouse uses the congested 2.4Ghz region without a hitch.
4/ No annoyance with sleep mode. The sleep mode switches on after 10 seconds idle time. And the mouse takes between 250-750ms to come back alive from sleep mode. From an end user perspective this entails moving the mouse about 5mm across the desktop at a normal movement rate before the mouse pointer starts moving on screen.
5/ The scroll wheel feels about right and gives the appropriate feedback. But, this is rather a subjective matter and I'd suggest trying out someone elses or a display model to decide for yourself.
6/ The forward/back buttons take a bit of getting used to. And requires the Logitech Setpoint software to be installed. The SetPoint software allows you to have a different behaviour for applications which actually utilise the back/forward buttons e.g. MS Office XP/2003, and IE.
7/ Battery life is tied closely with actual mouse usage. There are claims of upto 9 months battery life, but the only real test would involve setting up a testharness which involved using the mouse continuously (i.e. no sleep mode) for a baseline figure. Good luck with finding a volunteer. The mouse does have a low battery indicator, which avoids any nasty surprises and allows you to sort out a replacement battery before the old one completley dies.
8/ The USB dongle can be inserted/removed from the PC with no preamble i.e. it seamlessly hot deploys. And when the mouse is not in use the dongle slots nicely into the mouse.
9/ The build quality is excellent. Not sure if they all are, but my mouse was made in China.
Overall a very satisfied customer. (After the initial 3 months wait I went through) -
Initial 3 months waiting?
I've been here since....November -
Thanks for the great review Rizla! Too bad I have my sights set on a MX518 right now or I'd buy this mouse. Next month though, next month.
Cori you've been here longer than that. Since freaking October man. -
Yea, I made a few early posts about it..back then...and of course, you as well, you made this thread
It's also funny how 33/75 of your total posts are in this thread alone -
holy ****
I totally forgot about this thread and I decided to check it out today. Finally some freaking progress. Just in time for school. -
Everything sounds great. Now I'm just waiting for it to be released here in the US. I know amazon is selling the orange one, but I'm not sure if those orders will actually go through. And besides, I'm one of the few people who actually want the grey one.
-
My orange one will be here tomorrow I live in Reno NV USA. I ordered from amazon.
-
So much for ordering a V400....
Just went to amazon.ca (I am in Canada). Did a search for Logitech V400. Found two. One orange, one BLACK.
Black????
Clicked on the listing for the Orange mouse. Got a message:
"We're sorry!
An error occurred when we tried to process your request. Rest assured, we're already working on the problem and expect to resolve it shortly.
etc, etc"
No price for the Orange mouse. The black mouse is showing $69.95. Both show as shipping in 1 to 2 weeks.
I also tried amazon.com. That site usually chokes when you enter a Canadian address, and refuses to complete the order. In this case, the following is part of the Orange V400 listing:
"Product Details
Shipping Weight: 12.0 ounces. (View shipping rates and policies)
Shipping: Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S."
So much for getting it from amazon.com.
I checked eBay, and found four listed. Three are in Austria, and one in German.
Nothing on tigerdirect.ca, which often gets access to stuff early, since they ship everything from their warehouse in the US.
Guess we wait a bit longer....and longer, and longer, and longer....... -
My orange one should be here in a few hours. To bad I don't have my W3J to test it on.
-
i have the V500.
is this ....now.... better? -
The v500 is an older model.
-
Just got my V400 to bad I wont have my notebook for another few weeks.
-
Ugh.....gotta be frustrating. Try it out on a desktop or anything yet? I'm really curious about this "sleep mode" issue.
-
No word on my mouse as of yet
17 emails from now since October(when I first paid for the mouse), half a year has gone by so fast...
And I still don't have that mouse -
-
I've still got another 10 days to wait at least before they (orange) make it into NZ. Black ones will only get here on the 15th of May apparentally.
cant believe there is so much demand for a mouse... better be worth it when it comes.. I paid around $54 US for it. by far the cheapest anywhere in NZ.
I think I'll quickly read through this thread again.... all 53 pages worth. -
Well I don't know if I want to uninstall my MX1000 then install the V400 then reinstall the MX1000 I will just wait till my notebook gets here sometime the first week of May then give ya all a full report. Till then it just sits on my desk in its pretty package.
-
You can't have multiple mice going with set point? Or even without set point? I'm pretty sure you can.
-
On v400 though, I think the mouse will be uncomfortable, I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure it will be, v200 has a curvy triangular shape like mx310, and it's very comfortable, but v400 has an awkward shape. -
Its actually a little wider very comfortable to hold. Almost the exact same size as a V200 just a little wider.
-
Johnny9ball: can you give us the amazon link - I can't find it?
-
-
lol, Johnny. You can just edit and add new info in. No need to keep replying like that.

OMG It says currently unavailable. I probbly got the last one in the USA wow luckey me.
Looks like Circut City has them in. Storm Gray only.

I am gonna order a grey one and return the Orange one the Storm grey looks cooler.
Maybe I will sell the orange one to a Forum member who might have a hard time getting one. I will wait till I get my grey one though =).

Once I get my laptop I will give it a good review. I haven't actually used it yet its still in the package but it has a nice tight plastic seal right around the mouse and you can hold it sorta in the package still. I will probably open the grey one when it comes and return or sell the orange one unopened.
Your totaly right lol I fixed it. -
I just checked Logitech's site and on the main page is a link directly to info about the v400. A good sign perhaps???
-
Yeah that's complete bs lol.
-
Depends on what country you live in. Its available in some places.
If you want one in USA order one from Circuit city. I ordered the last one from amazon and now they are out LOL.

Oh ****.....my bad. I had my location set to Eastern Europe instead of Canada. Must have been from checking the site at some point to see availability in Europe.....
heh... the word C R A P got "asterisked" out -
This mouse is on sale at Best Buy Canada for $40. I'm wondering if this would be the new and improved version or the one with tracking problems and sleep problems that I read about on the first page of this thread. If it doesn't have any problems I'd consider buying it.
I wish the Logitech website gave some indication of battery life. I have rechargable NiMH so it's not a huge issue but it would be nice to know. -
I would guess since there has been a huge lapse in time for being able to get these mice it would be batch 2.
-
Yea, my local BB seems to have it in stock, I'm gonna prolly pick one up. Right now.
Gotta get dressed haha -
Give us a good rundown review after you get it. I have one but I don't want to open the box LOL.

Should I buy this today (Logitech® V400 Laser Cordless Mouse for Notebooks)? 40cnd sale rather then the usual price of 70cnd or go for v500 which still isnt available...
I always had an optical mouse, never a laser...any good?
Or should I go for a bluetooth mouse? -
Laser is the best. V500 is optical still good but not laser. Some people really don't like the scroll pad on the V500 I know I wouldn't and I never even tried it once .Bluetooth is good but they have a problem with going to sleep then after you move the mouse to wake them up it takes a second or two to connect and respond which would drive me insane. The early V400 had problems but if you buy one now your probbly getting a batch 2 where it got fixed.
-
...The orange one, because I like the sporty look
-
-
Ok guys......I can't believe it. BestBuy Canada had the v400 in their flyer today. I called the store close to me to see if it was true. IT WAS!! They had 14 in stock (orange ones). Obviously I dropped everything I was doing and went right down there. They are normally sold for $69.99 CDN, but they were on sale for $39.99....woot!!
Anyway, I just got home. I'm about to plug it in and give it a shot. I'm a bit worried that it might be a leftover from the original cruddy batch. I seriously hope not. I'll post after I use it for a bit.
WOOOT!
(8 months to wait for a stinkin' mouse....ugh) -
Just picked one up.
Haven't opened it yet heh, but I will... -
Good luck give us a report.
-
Which Best Buy is it that has only 14? I go to the Leaside one in Toronto. Hurry up and try it!!
Nevermind I'm leaving right now to buy one. But make sure you post a review before I get back and open it!! -
Ok...first findings.
1.
There seems to be a slight tracking issue. It's kind of like the old school ball mice when they got dirty.....kind of stops at times. Then it speeds up.
2.
I have not yet installed the SetPoint software. I noticed that on the small package for the CD, it says "Rev. A00". This is a concern as it looks as though this might be the original failed mouse. Not sure, it could just be the software revision.
3.
I find it to be very comfortable. I have a v200 which I like as far as comfort goes but it is very limited as far as buttons, etc. I have smaller hands (the old myth is not true by the way) and it fits perfectly. It's quite light as well.
4.
The sleep mode is not an issue at all. It's less than a second for it to "wake up" and start moving. No one should have any problems with this.
Hopefully, Coriolis will post his findings. Cori, I think you had purchased one in the past and it had issues if I'm not mistaken. Maybe it wasn't you but I think so. By installing the software, I can't imagine it fixing any tracking problem. I'm not sure if firmware can be updated for a wireless mouse or not.
Waiting for further reviews....
