Thanks for the feedback and the pic Insane :)

forgot to ask the forward and back buttons, are they comfortable? I read they are "one piece" and it's a bit hard to push them, how are you finding using them?

Do windows drivers ever send it to sleep?

hmm if indeed the new setpoint raises the 'goes-to-sleep' time from 4 to 6 seconds, it may be possible that there's a setting somewhere in the registry that controls this behavior.
If so, it should be fairly easy to raise it to 1 or 2 minutes which wouldn't hurt at all.
Frankly i don't care if the batteries last 2 weeks instead of XX if it solves the sleep time prob.
    Later,

edit: ah i see the link now in your sig, thanks Cori ;)

Can you really "Toss this mouse in your bag and take it anywhere"? Like i won't literally toss it, but will this mouse be safe in say, a regular back pack?

Ok so I was playing CS 1.6 and the **** thing keeps not working...I have to keep hitting reset in the middle of the game..doesnt happen often but happens usually when the round restarts...Usually happens when I leave the mouse for like 5 secs when Im buying the objects...could this be the issue "goes-to-sleep"?

any idea why? btw I dont have setpoint installed...could that be why? Let me know because if it continues Ill be exchanging it for a new one ;) tommorow

@Juniodude - Yeh dont worry its fine that way - will be safe lol.

Forwoards and back buttons are not a problem at all, granted not as easy to use as my MX700 but then I've been using that religiously got 2 years i think. And those forward and back buttons are HUGE.

My hands aren't that huge, so I dont have a problem clicking the forward/back. I'd imagine that if you had big hands that your fingers would hang over the front of the mouse while using it, and that would make you have to bend your finger to use them. They are fairly close together (hehe they are one piece of plastic with a grove in the middle that made it look like two.), but unless you have a motor-neuron dissorder I'm sure you'll be able to hit them without a problem.

I've only had the mouse for a few hours, and did get the chance to throw it into my notebook bad - had to do a powerpoint thing - and it came back alive without a scratch, but I'd like to have it in a bag though (not that it needs it!) I just dont like scratches on anything, not even tiny ones!!

Yup the windows drivers sends the mouse to sleep too, but it doesnt occur after the same time as with the latest setpoint, setpoint 2.6 gets the longest so far, 6secs ish WHOOOOO. over about 4.5 for windows/setpoint 2.4.2

yes will have a look into this, I'm rather supprised that after some nearly 800 posts that noone has picked up on this :)

think that answered everything, now let me play some more :)

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about in the last couple pages about the mouse going to sleep in 4-6 seconds. It doesn't sleep that fast. You can tell when it has come out of sleep because the green light on the back of the mouse turns back on (same as when you initially turn the mouse on by removing the usb thing). I don't believe the green light on the bottom of the mouse indicates whether the mouse has gone to sleep or not. This is from my experience with two different orange ones. I never had a sleep problem with either. And for the person asking about ripped packages, I returned both to Best Buy with no problem (one because a button didn't work, the other because I was not satisfied with the tracking). I tried to open them carefully but of course there was a lot of rippage anyway. Hope this helps.

I still plan to buy the grey one with tuned sticker whenever it becomes available in Canada.

Im a little disappointed with buy.com right now. I ordered my s96j from GentechPC at the same time i ordered my v400 from buy.com. gentech processed, built, and shipped my order out, I received it today. Buy.com claims they had the grey v400 in stock and they would ship it in 1-2 days. They shipped it today, 4 days later and say it could take up to 14 days for delivery..

Well did some testing with this grey tuned one. This time with a timer!

From looking closly I can see that the mouse does NOT need the bottom green light to me on to track. the light appears to shine when i lift the mouse but if i use the mouse on a rounded surface I can see that its still tracking on the screen fine, and the light remains off.

Next thing i times of course was how long it takes to go into 'sleep' mode. Its exactally 7 seconds acording to my watch. this is the idle time needed before the mouse stops responding. After a small nudge and a delay the mouse starts up again.

Quick question - if I got the v400, would it be possible to connect a logitech wireless keyboard to the same reciever that came with the mouse?

    thanks.

Mines sleeps within a minute or so, and wake up is about a split second. And the v400 uses a 5.8(I think) Ghz receiver, most nowadays are only 2.4ghz if I recall correctly.

    edit: fixed pics btw :)

Erm in less then 1 week my mouse ran out of batteries "setpointshows they are critical" is that possible? Isnt it supposed to last months with 1 pair of batteries.

I always leave it connected, may that be the issue or is it a faulty mouse?

    Quick Response :)?

Hmmm, My mx700 doesn't work with the v400 receiver, I think the other wireless peripherals are like 1.8ghz, or lower, I don't recall

    Hi everyone,

I have got my gray one with the tuned sticker two days ago. I am living in Turkey. I bought my V400 after reading the full 75 pages (altough it is now 78 :) )

I haven't installed the setpoint yet. But it works well. My only doubt is the wheel. It is not notched and this makes it look cheap. Not only because of the appearance but the wheel goes left right I mean it is not tight. Is ıt the same with your mice or is it just for mine.

I will write more about the mouse as I will use it more.

Been using this mouse for almost a month now and i find the wheel to be great. I have never accidentally hit the sides unless i meant to. I personally need the notched wheel i hate it when its smooth like the microsoft laser wireless notebook mouse. I found this mouse just needs a little getting used to and once you have gotten used it for countless hours you will come to love it.

Can anyone else please confirm that wheel does not have bumps when rotating it? maybe KRMZGL, has a different version?

Weird. I never noticed a need to nudge it after such a short time. Once I left it alone for maybe 20 minutes and it was the one time I ever noticed a slight delay, and the light on the back came on. I assumed that was an indication it had just come out of sleep.

My orange one had the notches but it was much less noticeable than my 5 year old logitech optical mouse. I would prefer the more noticeable type but I had absolutely no problem with the v400 wheel.

    Thanks for the replies.

So every V400 has this issue the wheel is not tight and moves left and right? It is not a problem. Am I right?

I'm getting used to my gray V400. It meets my needs. Not uncomfortable although it looks to be. It is not big for easy carrying and also not very small doesn't hurt your hand.

Bugrahan I'm living in Ankara and have bought my V400 from Demo Bilgisayar. In Turkey it is more and more expensive then anywhere else but I'm not used to buy things from net.(there isn't the orange one at least in Ankara)

Well the wheel is supposed to move left and right since it has tilt-wheel functionality on it.

Hmm, good thing I didn't order from buy.com yet. I still have time for the price to drop somewhere else. C'mon logitech rebates!

Well quoting my own message in this thread.

Since that post I can add that I have run out of 2 more batteries (duracell) and it seems that about a week is what you get. Not leaving it connected for all the time has not significantly improved the battery life eighter.

to be honest, if i had to decide again what mouse to get, it would be the v200 or v500. Its not what I expected from a logitech after how good my mx700 is.

I've found that the tracking is no better than an standard optical mouse, although it works on more surfaces.

And the pathetic sleep time. not fun to use, have to keep moving my hand around to ensure it doesnt fall into sleep! so annoying!

Well after looking into it, I've noticed that my mouse is working fine. It just doesnt like my wood grain desk. If i use a white piece of paper as a pad, it doesnt go into this 'sleep' state in a mater of seconds like on the desk. It obviously struggles to track on the desk and doesnt notice exactally when I've started moving again.

    Interesting indeed.

pic taken with a SE K750i so might be a little blury..

    Realistic battery life report:

I have had my v400 gray-tuned since April 21st. My usage pattern has been strictly business. I use it as my primary notebook mouse at my desk from 7:30am to 4:30pm on business days. When I am not in my office, the mouse is packed into my notebook case with the receiver securely inserted into the mouse and the mouse is turned off. I rarely use my notebook on the weekends, and when I do, it's for short periods of time so I use the touchpad.

I am writing this as of May 16th and I was just notified by the SetPoint software that my battery has died. This is the first battery put in this mouse which was the Duracell provided in the original v400 package. That's only 17 full business days of usage. Not very good in my opinion for any mouse, much less one that advertises much longer battery life.

****, I was going to buy the grey one today but after the last few posts I'm not sure if I should go for the V200 instead. If it has the same tracking as an optical but also has the extra buttons and works on more surfaces, would you say the only downsides are price and battery life?

Yeh the battery life is really messed up. Logitech could have done a better job and "not lied" on its actual battery life.

But I suppose every company does - to get the sales going.

my buddy is trying to see how much juice he can get out of a battery that the mouse has been complaining about for the past 2 days. he uses it about 6-7 hours per day so thats so far 12-14 hours that the red light has been on and its still going.

One thing people aren't taking into account when comparing this to the V200 is that the V400 takes one AA and the V200 takes two AAs. So for comparison between the two you'd need to double the V400 life to be fair.

    Correct.

The only issue I have is that once is a while, clicking the wheel does not work as expected. This happens when your click is not straight down - it will see it as a tilt of the wheel, rather than a click.

I use this mouse on my DJ laptop, so I am standing and moving around. Used normally while sitting at a desk, and likely the issue will not be noticable.

Agreed that the shape and feel are good. Took a bit of getting used to, but is great now!

    Greetings from Canada to Turkey!!!

I wonder if sleep mode is based on power draw? A dark surface reflects less light than a white surface, and if the thing has a variable power output, it might be drawing more current on the dark surface.

I have always liked Logitech products, but they do not publish a lot of technical specs, so speculation like this usually remains unconfirmed (or undenied....).

I can get 3a to show up but not 1a. Must be a hidden setting somewhere. My Setpoint version is 2.60.590 and when I choose check for updates it doesn't find anything.
