LOL!
Right, I installed an upgrade on it, silly me, I completely forgot![]()

Random V400 tip: I think I've mastered the middle button (wheel button). If I pull back on the wheel with my index finger I don't seem to hit the tilt function.
So imagine just pulling on the wheel backwards with your index finger. It should work. Although it's still not that easy.
I'm gonna try and run the batteries down... *puts up G5 for the moment* -
I have had the chance to use the V400 (tuned sticker) with my laptop for a few days now and I must say I am very very impressed.
It handles any surface I use it on with easy dark light whatever. There is no differance in its tracking ability on any surface I have tried it on (dident try mirrors and glass). It tracks as well as my MX1000 easley. It does go to sleep but this is really a non issue it takes a good bit for it to go to sleep and when I move it it wakes up in far less than one second. Tracking is absoutly supurb without any hanging at all. If I have to buy a mouse again the V400 is a no brainer. -
One overlooked question....
How is it's scroll wheel?
I've noticed ever since Logitech introduced their tilt wheels, they've been pretty bad.
Like for example MX610, it's wheel is a garbage, it usually over scrolls(overscrolling, is when you move a wheel, you don't hear a bump but there is a scroll registered in computer i.e. a webpage scrolls, scrolling before bumping. Can be very annoying.) when you are scrolling down and does not feel tight.
How is V400's wheel? if anyone has V200, how is it compared to it? I have V200, and it's wheel I've got to say is pretty good, no overscrolling, pretty tight. -
It scrolls with each notch you hit. Works fine to me.
-
It is just a tiny bit more stiff on its clicking bumps than the MX1000 I have, and the MX is very very smooth.
-
So is this mouse worth getting or are there still problems with it? Can someone also recommend something similar?
-
my MX1000 has very defined bumps on the wheel
Cyberghost: I tried following your instructions with my setpoint for MX1000, and I have no Devices folder or any after that in my setpoint folder. version 2.11 I think it said. Do I need to upgrade Setpoint first? -
k Thanks!
Strike, yes, I think you need to upgrade. -
-
Sad to say, but I'm going to return the mouse. I'm really happy with my G5 and now that I have a Sumajin Syncwrap the cord on the G5 doesn't seem so bad.
All of my laptop bags are big enough to hold my G5 so there really wouldn't be a point of taking the V400 around.
Plus, the damn thing doesn't track that well on one of my pillows yet the G5 is perfect.
Maybe I'll pick it up again way way way later when it's like 19.99 or less.
If you are still unsure on whether you want the mouse or not don't go by me returning it as a sign that it sucks. It does not suck but I don't have much use for it atm. It gets the job done, just not as well as it's bigger laser siblings can. -
Track on pillow? What are you doing with the mouse, or should I say to that mouse.
-
hahaha....
-
Honestly if you care that a wireless mouse doesnt track on a pillow you should never use wireless.
-
LOL I never even thought of it that way...
I was playing UT2k4 while sitting in my bed with my G5 and the pillow was the mouse pad and it worked fine. But when I used the V400 it didn't work out too well. And I don't think it being wireless had anything to do with the tracking. I'm sure if I used the G7 which uses a 2.4 ghz signal too, would have worked.
Like I said, it isn't a bad mouse by any stretch of the imagination. I just don't really have a use for it right now since I don't lug my 9300 around that often anyway. I gave it 4/5 stars on my price grabber review.
So if you are really in the market for a notebook mouse I recommend it.
I guess I should change my avatar then... -
Hi all, bought a grey one today...
Tracking is ok!
but the mouse is a bit small, still pretty comfortable to hold once you get used to it, scroll wheel is good and does not overscroll, but it's small, forward and back buttons are good, but if you press back button too close to forward, it'll go back and forward, kinda annoying, usb connector storing is pretty neat, also wonder why did logitech stop making buttons that have that "click" sound? I don't notice any "wake up" time at all, I notice it with my MX610, but not with V400.
Honestly? if I had to choose again, I'd go with V200, it's bigger, more ergonomical, it does not have those 2 buttons, but it's not a big price to pay for the other advantages it has, V400 looks more beautiful though
btw if anyone is interested in V400 vs V200 pics, let me know. -
Got a grey one today. Works perfectly so far. I actually use a mouse pad so no tracking problems for me. I'm replacing a v500 because the left clicker went bit flat and I really miss the scroll wheel. Having other button options doesn't hurt either. I'm happy with the new toy.
-
I have been useing this mouse for 10 days now and I must say I love it. I use it approx 2-3 hours a day and the batterys still say good. I have tracked on many surfaces around the house and at work and it tracks like a champ no problems. In fact I would say it tracks as good or even a little better than my MX1000. I love the size because I need a small mouse to carry around at work its very portable.

My little grey & orange beast just came via Amazon today, and for 1,000 yen less than any of the big-box electronic stores in the area!
Up until now I've been using a red V200 (or at least I think that's what it is...just says "cordless optical mouse for notebooks") that I've had for a few years. It's a great little mouse that's served me well, but even w/ always putting it back in the neoprene case, it's gotten a little beat up over time.
I know what you guys're talking about now re: the weight of the v400...it's about half the weight of the mouse it's replacing, so that'll take a little getting used to, but no biggie, I think.
The forward/back buttons are a bit of a let down, a) being all one piece of plastic and b) they don't really work like they should in Firefox off the bat. For the moment, I've ended up setting the left/right scroll as back/forward, which is really kinda neat (to me, in anycase *grin*), although it'd be even neater to have it be able to scroll through different open windows...I know, Google is my friend
The only other complaint I can think of is that it won't work on the see-through vinyl covering on my desk at work like my previous mouse did, but a plain old sheet of paper works wonders.
Oh yeah...one other cool thing about this bad little puppy (can ya tell that I'm a happy bunny right now?*grin*). I just tried to see what kind of range I could get with it, and man this thing'll work from far away! I was about 5 meters away, using my hand as a mousepad, and according to people near my desk, it was still working like a champ.
Overall, 9.5/10, but only due to minor imperfections. Now if they'd only make something like this for bluetooth...well a guy can dream, can't he? -
Seems that my mouse solved its battery issues itself
The batteries now go on for a solid few weeks without any "Low Battery" notice, maybe more.
Really happy with the mouse so far! -
Anyone know if I can get this mouse at Staples or Bestbuy?
-
yes you can, also futureshop
-
some notes on obtaining the 1a menu in setpoint - you have to find your device to alter - the V400 is 1000056, MX1000 non-bluetooth is 1000040, with bluetooth is 1000058, 1000048 says V200, dunno if it does anything, etc.
-
I was at Staples yesterday in Toronto, they only had the orange one and it was $80.
-
-
yeah mine is still going strong, so no problems there, still have to borrow one fro m work to see if mine truly is going to 'sleep' too quickly. I've got the orange ones at work finally, so maybe a swap is due
insane -
This mouse would be a lot better with a close page option, without giving up any other ones I have. It is otherwise all right though I replace a battery about every two weeks. That is not so great for the ecology. Logitech enginers (free user suggestion) how about a usb recharger model (I saw that on another brand.) or some other innovation?
-
you must be using it a lot! cos I'be had it for over a month and still on the first set, they are also still "good" so whatever that means.
I'm sure you can use recharables if you want to save the world
welcome to notebookreview.com!

Will there be such interest for new V450 Logitech mouse as it was for V400 ?
Just to shake up this thread. -
Not sure..I have way too many mice
Unless Logitech is willing to send us a few, 'samples' -
I doubt it.
I think, for me at least, that one of the big selling points on the V400 is the 5 button capbility. That's not present on the V450, from what I can tell, so I can't see a huge market. -
is it just me, or is the V450 just another 2 button plus wheel mouse, joining the V200 and Cordless mini. Only thing they seemed to be pushing was the long battery life.
-
WOW! Whata thread. I just came across it today cause I ordered a V400... Probably should have read the thread before I bought it, but I needed a new mouse and it looked like a winner.
You guys sure have been busy here. Some great information and reveiws.
I just want to ask a question to CyberGhost.
I saw your photos on the previous page and noticed you had the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Opyival Mouse there. How would you compare the V400 to it? The Microsoft mouse is the mouse that the V400 is replacing for my notebook. I've really been happy with the Microsoft one, so how would you rate the two against each other?
If anyone else can compare the two, please do. I read through this whole thread, but didn't come accross a comparison.
Thanks! Fun thread! -
MS has better: tracking, ergonomics. Bad: wheel(mine went really bad)
V400 has better: wheel, 5 buttons. Bad: tracking(unstable, jumps sometimes) the forward and back buttons - if you press back button close to forward button both buttons get clicked at the same time, they are one piece so it's kinda annoying at times.
Honestly I'd go with MS one again if I could return V400. -
Guys, is there a power-off button on the V400 aside from putting the receiver in the mouse?
-

Thanks Cyberghost!
I ended up getting this mouse a couple days ago. I hate to say it, but what a nightmare mouse. Tracking is so bad (on all kinds of surfaces). I can even slowly move (say 1cm every 3 or 4 seconds) the mouse in any direction and it won't register a movement. My microsoft wireless notebook mouse is so much better. It's really too bad cause I wanted to love this mouse. This is all with the latest version of setpoint installed or with just plug and play - i tried it on two computers.
After reading this thread, I had a glimmer of hope though and thought I would phone Logitech and maybe they would send me an updated mouse (my v400 didn't have the "tuned" sticker on it).
I just spent about 20 minutes with logitech support and I have to say, I will never buy another one of their products again. I told the service lady about the problem and basically she denied it existed. I then pointed her at this thread and several in their own Logitech forum about tracking issues and mentioning the new "tuned" sticker. She said there is no tuned sticker and that it has never been on their products. I even asked for an e-mail address so I could mail her a picture of the different packaging. She didn't care and proceeded to make me think I was crazy.
Logitech support told me to return the v400 to where I purchased it and get another, but I told them I was affriad I might have the same tracking issues and had cited how many people here had had new mice (that worked) shipped out to them from Logitech. I wanted to keep the mouse, but I wanted a working one.
The tech support lady went on to say, that they don't read the forums and if people have a problem with the product they will call support. She then left me on hold for about 5 minutes and then came back and said I could ship her the mouse and when they received it they would ship me back another mouse (at my expense for shipping). She took down the mouses part number, pid, etc and then told me that it was a NEW manufactured mouse (trying again to make me feel insane and that no problem existed). I finally told her this is rediculous and that I would return the mouse to where I bought it (Staples) and simply purchase a Microsoft mouse instead, but that I really wanted to keep the V400 - she didn't care and started to read the closing call statement off of the card they have on their desks...
I gotta say that was the worst tech support call I've ever had. I was very polite, friendly and imformative, but she was a completly unhelpfull, condesending b$%#&! I'm not too happy as you can tell.
It's unfortunate because I have bought a lot of Logitech products in the past, but will no longer and will not reccomend them. They used to have a quality product too, but this v400 is the worst mouse I've ever touched! I can't believe I got sucked in by the looks of this mouse!
The worste part is... I bought another v400 from eBay last week and it hasn't arrived yet. I was going to have two v400's cause I have two notebooks (well one is my son's and he has a cheap corded mouse on it)... Now I have to return this v400 to Staples and the one that is coming I'm gonna be stuck with... Frig'in hell! Whata waste of money and time! Maybe the eBay one will work better, but I highly doubt it...
Booooo Logitech! -
-
can always re-Ebay the ebay one.
I got fed up with the selection of notebook mice and got a bluetooth MX1000. -
-
It's only avaliable if you buy the MX keyboard+mouse set.
-
-
ah well that crosses BT MX1000 out of my list :/
I still hope for G10 version of MX1000 though -
the MX1000 that comes with the MX5000 set has the on-off switch. it is identical to the RF MX1000 except for the wireless type and the addition of a bluetooth logo (I own both).
I got a refurb MX5000 for $58 shipped on Ebay, and occasionally a bluetooth MX1000 from the set will pass through as well. -
Today, I picked up a Logitech V400, but there is no "Tuned" sticker on it, and the tracking seems really funky, I'm wondering if I should return it...
I got it for a decent price, normally $80 CAD at Staples but I got them to price match it for $40 CAD at Infonec.
On a black fUnc 1030 pad, it won't track at all, but it works fairly well on the sofa / sheets on the bed. It does skip every so often, but it's not too bad.
It's a really sleek looking unit (I got the silver/orange one), but I'm not sure if I should return it, and go for a hunt for the one(s) with the Laser Tuned sticker... -
turn off the enable pointer precision in the XP mouse settings, it conflicts with the logitech software. That should make the mouse run a lot more smoothly.
-
-
I dunno, give it a try.
-
any opinions on the microsoft notebook wireless 6000 mouse
