Hmmm.....Apple seems to be able to do it. Why not transfer the firmware to the mouse then upon completion of the transfer, a line of code says to execute the code that has already been transferred?

Agreed - my DLink wireless router very specifically says to NOT do any firmware updates across a wireless link. They must ALWAYS be done via wire.

I gave up on waiting for the v400 and I bought a logitech mx610 for $50. There was a deal I saw on buy.com a few days ago selling this mouse for 20 bucks after rebates.

The mx610 is a comfortable mouse. A little too slick for my tastes, as it slides too smoothly, I like a little more friction because it tends to glide right off whatever i happen to be using as a pad.

The battery life is supposed to be 3 months, but it only lasted me 1 month ( I leave it on 24 hours a day)

Tracking is ok, i think it is 800 dpi works well on most surfaces but slighty skipping with cloth surfaces..

There are lots of great buttons on this mouse. Too bad the software is horrible, and the lights wont work.

Last complaint would be about the critical battery warning, which never stops bugging you with flashes and pop ups, it should just warn you once and let you finish using the rest of the batteries instead of the nonstop warnings.

I'd recomend this mouse to anyone who is tired of waiting for the v400 which will probably come out in a billion years.

There are alot more buttons on this mouse and its comfortable, and portable.

the tracking/ and poor software will probably be identical in the v400 model to come.

The mx700 never had aproblem at all, It's one of the best wireless mices I've ever used, the tracking was great, as was the scroll wheel, smooth but still has that click to it, and the good ole front back button :)

Absolutely agree on that. I'm still using my mx duo on my desktop.

Still impatiently waiting for the v400 to come out. My MS Notebook Optical Mouse is starting to crap out on me and I need a replacement soon!

is MX610 bigger than MX700 or smaller?

do forward/back buttons work without software?

is there on/off switch on the mouse itself?

Yea, I remember how amazed I was at it when I first got it, it was an amazing and odd(I had to learn to use a mouse with a right hand(I'm a leftie)) feeling.

Great mouse, definitely Logitech's highest achievement, they released lots of good mice after it but none "wowed" everyone like MX700 did.

I think the mx700 is an older model than the mx610 because its optical instead of laster. (but i could be wrong)

They look like the same size and similar shape.

mx610 has a few more buttons, they all work without software, unless you program the buttons to do specific key stroke commands then you need set point open,

but for forward and backward, volume, application hot keys they will all work without the software..

Sorry I'm late to the party, but what is so great about this mouse that it created a 37 page thread?

(I know I could probably read through all 37 pages but I was hoping someone might be willing to give me an overview)

    Thanks!

    Hello All,

Just got today my 400 and read the posts here.

My impression ist the same, disappointed.. because the reactions are strange of this mouse, my old cordless optical for notebook feels better, if not perfect precisiously and fast. The 400 not always on first little moove starts immediately (parts of milliseconds) and also during mooving impression of flattering directions (milli-millimeters :), but what ist important at the end the feeling is really not better, unfortunately worse than normal mouse, you can work with it, sure not what expectet from prospect... One more thin when mooving: You can only highen the mouse very little from surface, 2-3 millimetres max. i guess after the symbol stops mooving. I noticed this cause i obviously take mouse often up from surface when surfing.

Just Detail: The wheel not feels as quality as my old one, wheel is little bit flattering and noisy (like not fit nice, my 310 and also old optical notebook wheels feel and listen nice, wheel sounds like a "cheep part").

I installied the newest driver b.t.w., attached only the 400 then only the old mouse, and also both same time.

Sorry for the bad news (as others also did), i know it shoud be better mouse according specs, but isnt (maybe the next corrected generation 410 will be :), sorry. It hurts all expections but "you can work with it", is my experience and conclusion.

    greetings Max

If the mouse would be something special, even just just for some of us, there shoud be already posts around telling us this - but there arent :(

(I unfort. ordered 2 and prob. send back the un-opened)

    Greetings Max

    Hy CyberGhost,

    Thanks fpr welcome.._ :)

Comfortablewise i think THIS is individually. For me it could be larger because i'm user larger, formwise i find my 'old' Cordless optical mouse for notebook (form looks like v200) more comfortable (if not perfect) because its larger and form follows the form of the hand. (But it weigths more). Also my MX 310 i like more. It feels how it looks like. :)

(Forward backward works in IE but not Firefox 1.51, anyone an idea why?->edit ->solved! because works on target laptop)

This i think is individually, but mouse movement behavor - the most important part i think - i think is not individually.

Maybe the reason for the delay (i also waited 2 months) has to do with that it not meets the promised results?..

Maybe.. the orange one which officially comes out 7. february is corrected.

I would give a try and would also be interested try out myself, its looks so good and specifications mmm. :) (if i hadnt already)

Take care & good luck Max

I've got mine two weeks ago,

Just don't buy it, the reasons:

    1. Works on less surface than a V200 (I've got one with which I can compare), even on a mouse pad seems to be difficult to get "precise" pointing
    2. When the mouse goes in sleep mode (after approx. 1mins), you have to move it during 10secs before the pointer moves back. Often you simply need to push on the reset button to have it working again. I've tested with new batteries etc. no change. Really a pain.

I initaly thougth that the problems could come from WI-Fi network or my notebook. I've tested on different desktops but the mouse seems to be consistently suffering from the same problems.

I think for the price, you'de better to look for an alternative.

Some people talked about a firmware, hope they will do.

Personaly I will contact Logitech to see if they can do something on this. But once again I think that I can put it on my shelve for decoration.

    JeBoss.

I have to absolutely agree with jeboss.
This mouse's tracking is realy bad, worse then common mouse's.
So I returned it to the store and take new piece but it was the same.
I've written to Logitech but no answer came yet.

So I'm really disappointed and I hope Logitech will solve this problem early, because this is very nice and useful mouse

    - nice looks

    It should work with FF.

I'm not canceling my order but if it is indeed crap, I'll have a personal project. Fuse the MX700 and V400 together heh...

Put mx700 tracking in V400's shell...I hope

I will also most likely be purchasing the MS wireless 6000 but its current price imo is not worth it. Once its in 3 feet or more range u lose signal, its like nothing compared to the v500 in terms of tracking.

If anyone knows a place thats selling the MS wireless 6000 cheap please share the info.

    To Xenoke,

Yes the buttons works with Firefox BUT only when the mouse is recognized -> only for one minute then no alternative -> RESET button. I think you will see what I mean if you buy it :).

I'm now using my MX900 coming from my Dinovo in Bluetooth mode. No dongle etc. Really easy. An dworks really correctly.

I'm more looking at the intellmouse Bluetooth. But people says that the battery life is not good.

    Bye.

The stock WinXP mouse drivers ought to recognize the forward & back buttons on pretty much any mouse. So yea, it ought to run perfectly well with Firefox.
